  1. Good Job Mo

I have been all over the state and I can assure you that the Rebel's "Big" gym is one of the top 10, no top 5 in the state.

The old gym is just that old. It could use some renovation, but let's call it what it is a practice gym.

But as long as we are giving props to gyms, how about the job that HD did when they repaired their gym. I love what they did! The floor looks awesome and painting the ceiling white and the new lights make it look and feel bigger. GREAT JOB HDISD!

I hope that the folks in SP take teh opportunity to go first class with the rebuilding of their facility. It was a nice gym, but improvements are always welcome. However, with the success they are having at Nederland they might want to invest on trasportation to mid county instead of rebuilding the gym. We would all appreciate the shorter drive to games with SP.

Still think Rebels by 5 tonight!

  2. Hey Rebel Fans

If you were not paying attention last night's win at HI has put the Rebels back in a position to snag one of the three playoff spots in district. With games against the #1, #2 and #3 teams in the district and the Rebels only one game back of HD, stranger things have happened.

Not to mention that we get HD and SP at home. The Rebels still control their own destiny so lets be sure to pack the gym next week and see if we can help the Rebels finish strong and make it into the playoffs!

  3. Great Job Lady Rebels

With one game left against Sabine Pass and the dsitrict championship in your pocket things will become clearer as to who your first round opponent will be.

Now I am not saying take SP lightly, NOT AT ALL! But the focus needs to be shifting as the level of competition will get better and better as you hopefully progress through the playoffs.

It has been a great season and you continue to put up W's. Just keep focused and keep on keeping on!

  4. I for one enjoy tight races, don't get me wrong I want the Rebels to win everything, but a tough district race is great for a team that advances. If they breeze through the district schedule then when they get to playoffs they are untested and unable to handle a good team when the time comes to play the game.

I think we all should welcome spirited competition while of course still rooting for our team.

  5. All I am trying to say is that the system is not now or will not ever be perfect.

Travel time is what it is, something that has to be budgeted into the school budget. Somebody is not happy everytime realignment comes, yet some are excited as a new opportunity comes into focus.

We can debade this until the cows jump over the moon, but in the end the UIL will do what they want to do! You can rail against it until you are blue in the face, but that has been so effective with other unpopular rulings that have come down from "THE OFFICE".

In fact the recently retired director of the UIL spent more than 30 years as the top man at the UIL kind of like Hoover at the FBI and we all know the holds that he had over so many in Washinton.

    Just something to think about...

  6. AggiesWeAre

What some people seem to be missing is that this kind of travel goes on all the time in West Texas. Dist 2-5A Amarillo to Odessa 262 miles 4 hours 22 minutes.

No one gets to vote on alignments. The UIL is not elected or even a state agency. They are a branch of the University of Texas system and as such they have control without much oversight.

This new plan (which has not been approved) might make better sence state wide than it does for SETX.

It all boils down to if not my kid then whose will be effected by these long rides. West Texas has done it for years and years in all classifications, folks out there might be saying why shouldn't everyone have drive like them?

  7. There are plenty of 1A powerlifters

Evadale, West Hardin, High Island and Hull-Daisetta have teams.

Chance Burnett of Evadale could make waves all the way to state this year. The Rebels have 16 guys on their team. It has been a huge help for the football team as most of the lifters are football players too.

Keep an eye out 1A kids are just as into powerlifting as any other classiification is.

  8. It is hard to call since the Rebels have dropped three straight after winning their first two district games, but I still think that the Rebels have a shot at the playoffs, so they must take care of business every game.

No one stops Copeland, so you have to slow him down and put the breaks on the rest of their team. That is what the other teams in disstrict seem to have figured out.

    Rebels by 5

  9. Hey I'm a big boy and will take my lumps when they come.

I had hoped that the breaks would be in Evadale's favor, but last night they were not. I will give it to the six or seven players that Spurger put on the floor last night they di dwhat they had to do. I was still proud of the Rebels for battling to the end.

I too hope Tucker recovers quickly from the broken nose. I have never had one, but i have heard they are very painful.

So after the first half of the district the Rebels are 2-3 and in 4th place in the standings. It should be interesting the last half and of course it depends on who can get or stay healthy the remainder of the season.

I will still say the Rebels will win every game, because i believe that they can do it if they put all the things together that they need to each game. Well when I'm wrong I will take it and when I am right I will gloat. That why all of us are on this blog, RIGHT?

  10. Don't worry MIA the Rebel bullpen will have plenty of arms ready for the district race.

With enough players to fill a varsity and JV roster coach Williams will have lots of opportunities to get his starting rotation set before the district campaign gets underway.

The Rebels have the blessing of numbers and have had a JV baseball program for years that continues to supply players for the varsity dugout.

It should be a great season!

  11. I also realized that if the Rebels do pull out a win tonight that they Spurger and the loser of the SP/HD game will all be 3-2 and tied for second one game back of the 4-1 SP/HD winner.

It is looking more like it will take all the games in the second half of distirct to sort out the district champ and the two other teams going to the playoffs.

    What a year right!

  12. The Rebels have taken care of business at home so far during district.

I understand that one or two players for Spurger are out due to injuries, so I would have to say that the Rebels chances are pretty good.

The player situation at Spurger is such that the JV boys game has been cancelled because the Pirates only had 5 players on the team and one of them got hurt. With the Spurger forfit the JV Rebels are now 21-1 on the season.

I believe that the Rebels will win tonight by 10!

  13. One game at a time!

Well the Evadale Lady Rebels continue to do just that. With four games left they are set to look up the district crown with two more victories they have defeated HD twice and with only WH with a chance to knock the Lady Rebels out of the top stop it seems unlikely that the Lady Rebels finish anywhere but on top of the district.

The team continues to get recognition as one of the top programs of any classification in SETX as well as being a top twenty team in TABC poll.  The team is focused and they are making it look easy. I would expect that the Lady Rebels are already looking for a warm up game to test them after district is completed, who knows we might get to see just how they stack up against a larger classicication school that is playoff bound. It could answer plenty of questions.

  14. The festival contacts coaches in the district for two nominees and and alternate.

Thne the festival contacts the players and invites them to participate. Depending on the number of players who accept then the teams will be put together. Players from the same sholl will play on the same team.

Both games were great a couple of years ago, these sho be too!

  15. It could be argued that this is the year of the Rebel!

I don't see any change in that when baseball comes along. This is a unique year as there are what seems about 70% of the team is in off season workouts instead of on the basketball court. Their are some who will move from basketball to baseball, but the percentages will be smaller than from football to basketball.

The Rebels have a good number of returning starters and position players who got work last year as the Rebels were a playoff team. Those who are in baseball are focused as they know that since they have been in high school the Rebels have not won two district crowns for the guys. This group of seniors and all the others can change that as they shoot for baseball to go along with football and who knows that might even be trying tho complete sweep if the basketball team continues its winning ways.

Be ready because the Rebels are coming!

  16. A question

If the Rebels can go to Nederland and let the water out of the Sharks adopted tank then will anyone be willing to consider that the Rebels might be one of the top three teams in the district.

I know that their first two games were at home, but they are the only 2-0 in the district. If we are 3-0 will that change some minds or will it take 4-0 or 5-0 for them to be one of the top three.

    Just a question?

  17. Just so you will know that the folks at the Evadale Catfish Festival will once again have the Catfish All Star Basketball Games as a part of this years Catfish Festival.

The games will be played on Saturday, May 9th. The girls game will be at 2 PM and the guys will play at 5 PM. These games will feature senior players from schools in the district who have played against one another for years. Once the festival knows how many players are interested in playing from 25A they may have to expand out to other 1A schools to the north to fill out the rosters of the teams.

The Catfish Festival did this a couple of years ago and both games were fun and the action in the boys games was truly outstanding.

Hope everyone can come and watch these seniors who have given so much of themselves to our schools as they hit the hardwood one more time before they graduate. (Yes it will be the hardwood as Evadale's big gym renovations are scheduled to be completed in early April.)

Just thought you might like to put this on your calendar now and while you are at it you might as well come out and enjoy the rest of the Catfish Festival beginning Thursday, night May 7th and going through Sunday the 10th.

  18. Evadale - Big to go 5 and 0 on the way to 10 and 0 in district and 23-3 for the season.

Coach Hollyfield has the Lady Rebels scoring 66 points in district games and that is pulling

out of the press at half. This is a talented team that could make waves in the playoffs.

High Island - in a close one

    HD - by 10

  19. To Trey and all the folks in HD.

I like winning as much as anyone, but I am sorry that he is hurt and that it hurts HD's chances. We all must remember that these are kids, talanted and athletic, but still kids. I hate to see any of them hurt and I pray that he has a full recovery from the surgery and that he keeps a possitive attitude as he rehabs.

  20. With as close as the scores have been I thought it might be good to keep the predictions all on one post so we can see how everyone does in their predictions. What do you think about Friday nights games?

    Evadale @ Sabine Pass

    Spurger @ High Island

    West Hardin @ Hull-Daisetta

I'm taking Evadale, Spurger and West Hardin knowing that all three could be wrong around 9:30 Friday night. What a crazy year this one is going to be! I would not be surprised if we needed at least one playoff game to determine at least one of the playoff seeds and it could be all three.

It has started exciting and I don't see it letting up till the final games and maybe even one or two after that.

Good luck to all the teams!
