  1. Being in the dugout at various times throughout the season and especially today, I can say that the players on the Rebels did our community proud!

It was difficult to watch the season come to a close and I want to say that I saw Garrett Landis giving Billy Nichols a hug and speaking to him. I can only imagine that he told him that it will be alright and that the Rebels can take care of business next year.

I know that we have so many good ball players returning next season. The foundation is laid and the building is being constructed. All the Rebel athletes can be proud of the effort they put forth this year and know that they can go further as they build on that foundation in the future.

We are still behind you Rebels!

  2. I have to agree with Joe

Knowing Billy Nichols is a huge Tim Teebo fan, fan made be the wrong word. He is more of a student of Teebo. I believe that Coach Williams will look to spread the field and use Nichols as a thrower and runner like Florida did a couple of years back.

I believe that the Rebels will be putting points on the board in bunches. Bring on the Friday Night Lights!

  3. Go Rebels.....

    Thanks Colmesneilfan

I remember that your boys took home a state baseball title a couple of years back and you know what it means to make it to where the Rebels hope to end up.

We have quite a tradition of great teams in small schools here in SE Texas. It seems to me that some of those glory days from years past are resurrfacing as I can see that there is some great talent on a lot of teams in our area.

I for one am looking forward to getting back on the fields and courts with the Bulldogs, Yellow Jackets, Mustangs, Oilers, Bobcats, Pirates, Sharks and Cardinals in the 2009-2010 school year.

Hope to see you ALL at the games!

  4. Congrats to the Rebel Baseball team on their wins in the playoffs. While I am at it congratulations to one of the best small school programs around. Success this year in Girls sports of Volleyball,Basketball and Softball and the Boys in Football and Baseball (Basketball is coming) is due to the student participation, coaching staffs and parents. Students join the fun and participate you might surprise yourself.......

Congratulations to all on great seasons and Boys Baseball put your stamp on the whole year............

    Go all the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great post! The 2008-2009 school year has been very successful for the Rebels athletic program. We had a great group of seniors this year who led by example on the fields and courts. As a parent of a sophomore this year I know that even better things are on the horizion for 09-10 and 10-11. This coming year will see new faces in the line ups, but as the baseball team is an example our players are getting used to making the playoffs and they like winning in them even more.

Keep rolling baseball team and I can't wait to see what the new year holds in store for us all! GO REBELS!

  5. This Rebel team just has heart.

Their never say die attitude is something the community can be proud of.

There are now only 16 teams left working their way to the state title. All the teams that are left are top notch teams so heart is going to play a major factor in which team advances in the Regional semis, Regional final, the State semi and then the State final game.

I can say that this team has nothing left to prove, but a few more things left to do.

Rebels take it one game at a time and be sure to keep your heart right where it is.

    GREAT JOB!

  6. The Rebels looked focused and took advantage of every opportunity that Latexo gave them on Tuesday.

I don't know much about Douglas, but they defeated a good team in West Sabine.

It should be a great series and game 1 will be the key in my opinion. Having to come back and win a double header on Saturday if you are down after Friday night is a lot of pressure. Not saying it can't be done, but having to sleep on it and then travel seems difficult to keep it from getting to you.

I belive that the Rebels will take game one and two and make the twin bill a non factor.

See you on the daimond tonight Rebels!

  7. Great Job tonight Rebels!

The Tigers never got untracked and were caged by the 6 runs the Rebels scored in the top of the first. The Tiger pitcher could not throw strikes and with runners aboard and a few well placed hits and some errors by the Tiger outfield the ned of this one was written early in the game.

Playing EC and Dweyville seem to be just what the doctor ordered in order to get the team focused and motivated after the UIL imposed Swine Flu layoff. Don't get me wrong I would have loved to win both of those contests and help settle the arguement of which team is the best in Southeast Texas. But if the choice is win those two and loose in the playoffs, I will gladly take those lumps in order play another day.

Congrats to the Rebels and Coach Will and his staff. Looking forward to this weekend's series and hopefully more gamwes next week!

  8. If everyone comes out, the Rebs will be fine.  They had a HUGE class of seniors last year with lots of heart and loosing those guys may seem a tremendous loss at first glance, but those seniors taught the younger guys not only how to win, but to expect it.  And that's a load in any classification.  Again, if the Rebs come out in numbers this year as they have the last few, they'll be in good shape when the dust settles.  I should be able to relax this year and enjoy the games...those that know me know what I mean. (although I would rather be a little nervous) gonna miss you 14!

I give you perpission to switch some of that nervous to this years #8 Mo. See you in the booth in Sept!

  9. We want people to know that we are very serious about this and have begun to make contact with manufacturers and will be looking for corporate/business sponsors for this and our basketball games.

Being involved with a 1A school we are all too familiar with the fact that our kids get overlooked and this would be a way to give one more shot for what we believe is a very talented group of players to get one final opportunity to play and yes possibly impress a college scout in the process.

We want this to happen and that is why we are starting to work on it a year in advance. We will be making contact with coaches from area schools in September to have them prepared for what we are trying to do.

In all likelyhood we will ask schools to nominate four players, two offense and two defense, one lineman and on back on each side of the ball, plus one specialty player kickers, punters and return guys. We will also ask for student trainers that deserve to work one last game as well. We might even expand it to at a cheerleader nominee from each school as well, "what football without cheerleaders"  and we likely will invite two bands to play at halftime from two schools that send athletes our invite senior band members to gather and play at halftime. With us it is all about the kids.

So I ask again, if you have input or information to share please let me know and if you are with a company that might be interested in helping to sponsor this event and the costs that will go along with it please feel free to contact me, through a personal message.

Great football knows no classification and we really want to make this a very special event that will showcase these players year after year.

    Thanks again!

  10. I am seeking out people who have experience with all-star football games. Administrative, coaching and even players who have played in all star games.

The Evadale Catfish Festival is strongly considering holding an all star game in early May 2010. It will be limited to graduating seniors who are in 1A to 3A. So often good players don't get the chance to take the step up to the next level and most of them wish they could take one last shot under the lights.

If you have information or just want to discuss this send me a personal message and I will get back to you.

For any football fanatics, just hang on football two a days are only 12 weeks away and games are only 14 weeks.

    Thanks for any information.

  11. The Horseshoe Tournament and all of the festival are still on.

Teams need to be on the grounds by 9 AM and sign up. The pits will be near the wall of the high school on the festival grounds.

The festival is on the Evadale ISD campus on Hwy 105 about a 1/2 mile south of Hwy 96.

Hope to see lots of teams and one of them will be crowned tournament champion.

  12. Pitcher - Garrett Landis - Evadale

Catcher - Billy Nichols - Evadale

    1st Base - Tyler Tucker - Evadale

    2nd Base - Tyler Ousley - Evadale

Short Stop - Justin Potts - Evadale

    3rd Base - Hayden DuBose - Evadale

Left Field - Justin Royal - Evadale

Center Field - Dillion Anthony - Evadale

Right Field - Chris Harvey - Evadale

MVP - Tyler Tucker - Evadale

Newcomer - Dillion Anthony - Evadale

Coach - Mark Williams - Evadale

Just for everyones information. Only Landis and Royal are seniors. Ousley, DuBose and Anthony are juniors. Nichols, Tucker, Potts and Harvey are sophomores.

I know I just submitted Evadale players, but I have seen all the other district teams and since the Rebels have not lost to a single one of the other teams in two years the Rebels must have the all district players and they come at every position. I know it won't come out like that in the end, but it will be close to it.

  13. You have to play the games, but the Rebels look to be hitting on all cylinders right now.

They have five pitchers that can change things up depending on their opponent.

Senior garrett Landis, junior Hayden DuBose, sophomores Dustin Potts, Chris Harvey and Tyler Tucker.

They can hit for power as Tucker, Harvey and DuBose hae gone yard along with junior Tyler Ousley.

They have great speed on the base paths with senior Justin Royal, Potts and junior Dillion Anthony.

The infield is solid Tucker and DuBose can both play first, Ousley and Landis on second, Potts and Ousley at SS Harvey and DuBose on third and one of the best catchers in the area behind the plate, sophomore Billy Nichols.

Royal holds down left with Anthony in center and Harvey and Landis in Right.

There are a number of JV players that will play up and fill in as needed too.

If versatility is a key to making a run then the Rebels have the right pieces to do just that and if you didn't notice there are only two seniors on this Rebel squad. A lot of All District players will be back in 2010!

This year, I believe that the Rebels will makesome noise in the playoffs.

  14. I must disagree on allowing private schools into the UIL.

I spent a short time as the Head Coach and Athletic Director of a private school in Austin back in the 80's. We of course did not offer athletic scholarships, but each year I was told that we could offer X number of scholarships and their was no acedemic performance that had to be established. The board was speaking to me as the athletic director not the school recruiter.

I also lived in Louisiana for a couple of years and almost every sport was dominated by private schools. Students playing varsity sports from the time they are in the 6th grade so they can get six years to mature and grow into the game.

I can listen to the arguements, "that will never happen here!" Just wait until some small school in mid County starts pulling athletes from Nederland, PNG and WOS with the promise of playing out of state or in nationally recognized tournaments with college scouts and even pro scouts always around waiting to talk to parents about "the next level". Then we will see if this becomes an ugly topic or not.

It's a bad idea and it will continue to be one no matter how much it is discussed.

  15. What a great idea 2muchn4

I can make it happen if the coaches are agreeable - Friday night, May 8th - 7 PM

All they have to do is call the Catfish Festival number at 276-1470 and we can make it happen.

But if it is during the playoffs I doubt that either team could or would play and if the season is over then I don't think it could happen, but I could be wrong.

But it is a great idea!

  16. High Island boys finish 3rd overall

Going to regionals:  Mason Mounkes 1st in High Jump 6'2", 1st in 110 hurdles 16.5 (didn't run good ran 15.00 last week)

    Miles Loop 1st 300 hurdles 43.00 2nd 110 hurdles 17.6

    Roger Davis 3rd 300 hurdles 43.8

High Island girls did very well finishing in top 10

    Going to regionals

    Brandi Edwards 2nd in 800M run 2:40

    Kyla Spaugh 2nd in 400 67.3

    4x400 relay finished 3rd with a time of 3:42

I saw Mounkes run the 110's last week at WH he was flying! I know people are but, somebody needs to be sure some tape of that young man makes it to some colleges and universities. He very well could hurdle his way to a college education.

I will try to post the Evadale results in a bit. I know that Ariel Wills is going to regionals in the long jump, 200M and both the 4X100 and 4X200 relay teams.

Wish I could have been there yesterday!

  17. I think that this is a great idea a hope that it continues to be a tradition. A senior from my school played his last actual basketball game their and he said it was a blast to play with some of the other top player in the district on his team.

    Glad to hear it BigTimePlayer

I can't tell you now but we are working on something else that we think will be big too.

The Evadale Catfish Festival is making lots of moves to really become a well rounded festival that has something for just about everyone and every fan. We love to put this on and we love to give props to great kids (from Evadale and surrounding schools), great civic, community and church groups and a great community in a great area.

Hope to see you at the games and hanging around the Catfish Festival. I assure you and everyone else they won't be disappointed if they come out to Evadale and join us.

  18. How is the roster put together who choses the players and coaches?

The festival contacts coaches who nominate up to three players, two get invtations one is an alternate in case one of the first two nominees declines the invitation.

The festival contacts the players and invites them to play. They can accept or decline.

The coaches are more like managers making sure that players are substituted in and out to get everyone equal playing time or as close to it as possible. They are invited by the festival to be on the sidelines.

These games were played two years ago and were very very recieved. The festival did not do the games last year, but several coaches asked if the games could be brought back and the festival committee was able to get it together.

This might not be an All Star event in the eyes of some, but for players at the 1A level it is about as close as some of them will ever have the opportunity to play. The Catfish Festival believes that these players many of which have battled each other on courts from the time they were in grade school are some of the most talented players anywhere and they just wanted to get them, their parents and the schools that they played for one last opportunity to watch them in action.
