  1. The meeting between Evadale, West Hardin and Goodrich happened this morning and according to the Evadale HS principal this is how the tri champs will settle the playoff seeding.

West Hardin will play Goodrich on Thursday

Evadale will await the winner on Friday.

The West Hardin/Goodrich loser will be the #3 seed

The winner of the Evadale/Thursday match winner will be the #1 seed

I know the game on Friday is at Spurger and I believe the one on Thursday is too. The Friday game is set for 5 PM

Good Luck to all the teams, hope we get the opportunity to meet again in the playoffs, because if we did both teams would be close to winning regional!

  2. Just a reminder to everyone who loves this game of football, especially high school football. Every player on every team had grand visions of being the last team standing in December when they put on the pads in August. For some those dreams continue, for others the brass ring is close to being snatched away and for others the dream died games ago.

Just remember that everyone of these kids is just that a kid! How their football team did will be nothing but a memory in just a few short years and even less time in the collective memory of their community as the attention will switch to another sport soon and a whole other team next year.

Athletics is more than winning and losing. It is an opportunity to be a part of something more than yourself, it is a chance to be a team. Every student no matter what their part in the games each week will go home and hopefully have a loving parent, grandparent or someone who cares for them waiting to welcome them home after the game. It is and always will be a game even if you play in the NFL. As this season gets close to winding down lets all remember that this is a great game, but it is played by terrific kids!

  3. Another Outstanding Season Lady Rebels

You would be hard pressed to find a program that has so consistently produced playoff brand teams as the Lady Rebel's program from start to finish. It is a great testimony to the players, coaches, parents and school that there are 6 senior girls all of which participated their entire high school career as Lady Rebels. Many of these girls are in their third varsity season.

Congrats Lady Rebels and good luck in the playoffs, you don't really need an email to get motivated, you girls can do it on your own.

  4. Evadale, Goodrich and West Hardin are all sitting at 5-1 in district has the teams conclude district with matches today. I was wondering what people think about who people think this one is going to come out?

I understand that if the log jam remains and it is quite likely to do so, all three coaches will meet tomorrow and do a little odd man out as two teams will play on Thursday with the winner to meet the other team on Friday.  The time and place of those games will also be determined.

The Lady Rebels have not lost since the first match in district against Goodrich, the Lady Oilers defeated Goodrich and the Lady Rebels defeated WH last Friday.

Could it get any better than this! Good luck to all three teams and hopefully one of you will be the regional champion and get the shoot to represent at the show!

  5. I must agree with bobcat 55 on the placement of WH above Evadale.

Looking at the teams they have played the one glaring difference is that WH has yet to play a ranked team,  until playing Evadale this week. The Rebels on the other hand defeated the HD Bobcats while they were ranked.

So why would they be placed higher than the Rebels? Sounds a bit fishy to me, but Friday the debate will be over and then the attention will turn to see who will get second in district as HD and WH both with one loss square off the next week.

  6. Take into consideration that the two teams have four common opponents.

    Rebels              Opponent                  Oilers

Four scores          Warren                    Lost to the Warriors          The Rebels scrimmaged them a week before the Oilers played them

    Handled Easily    Colmesneil                  Handled Easily

    Destroyed          Burkeville                  Destroyed

    Defeated            High Island                  Defeated

    Looks pretty even

Oilers ranked #5 Rebels ranked #6 on SETX Sports.com

    Looks Pretty even

WH won 22 to 19 last year at home

This year it is at Evadale

    Looks pretty even

First real challenge (save HI) that the Oilers have had

Rebels have played three tough games two since Ike with the win over HD being the biggest

    Advantage Rebels

Oilers still have to play HD

Rebels have Chester and SP left

    Advantage Rebels

I think this is the Rebels year to take care of business

    Rebels 28

    Oilers 14

  7. If you did not see this one you missed on of the hardest hitting games i have seen in some time. Every game has a signature hit or two in it, but this one delivered like a prize fight in every aspect.

The Cardinals are a much improved team and the pride they have in their school and community are evident. The Cards delivered an action filled contest that kept the fans on both sides of the field on edge throughout.

I know some of the things that the Cards do is similar to what the Oilers do and it was nice to see it and to get a feel for it in the big contest coming this week.

I would love to get the opportunity to see the HI /HD contest it should be a good one too.

Good luck on the remainder of the season Cards!

  8. Cardinal Fans

CONGRATS to all of HI and the Cardinal fans! Your team fought hard and made it a game from the outset. I was impressed by the halftime presentation and who could not be impressed by the efforts of your emergency responders during Ike. Your team and your fans did themselves proud by the fight they put up today.

On a totally different note keep the district informed as to possible needs that might arise in the near future. Ike is fading from the memory for most of us, but we know that you guys live it every day. If we could pass along needs that the community has we all might be able to help. Some are Rebels, some are Cardinals, but we are all Southeast Texans!

  9. This is just another classy thing that one school is doing for another. Neaderland gets great big KUDOS for assisting the Sharks in this time of need. I know it will be tough on the Sharks when a home game is not really a home game. But if that is the worst thing that they have to face the rest of this school year then they are well on their way to recovery.

Just a reminder that even as Ike begins to fade from the memories of those who were only slightly affected it is still a daily reality for so many along the coast. My continued prayers go out to those still faced with the task of rebuilding.

  10. Well the conventional wisdom has to be with Spurger, but let me say that the Rebels are entering their second full season with Coach Jason Wilkins at the helm and the Rebels only lost one senior from last years squad.

The Rebels won't even begin to think about basketball until an hour or so after their last football game, when ever that might be as all but I believe one player are in football.

The Rebel gym is still under repair and I have not heard if they hope to have it up and ready for the start of the season. One plus this season is the new floor in the Elementary gym which I am sure will be utilized by one or more teams allowing more court time for all the teams. I would say that the Rebels could possibly have freshman, JV and varsity squads in both boys and girls, but I can guarantee that they have at least JV and varsity.

So to the rest of 25A; the Rebels have had a couple of lean years, but things are swinging back in the Rebels direction, who knows maybe it will be this year?

  11. Hey I know that most of the time here in SETX land is spent on varsity squads, but earlier in the week the question was asked about the future and I just wanted to give some props to the Evadale Junior High and Junior Varsity.

Both squads traveled to Pineland to take on West Sabine tonight and both left the field victorious. The JH won 28 to 20 in a thriller, I was not able to attend as it started too early, but the victory brings their record to 3 and 1 and if you count a couple of scrimage wins (which I know you don't) they are 5 and 1. A great start to the football careers of these young men many who are playing football for the first time. Evadale does not have a youth program, altough I am sure that one or two played in other leagues in the area.

The Junior Varsity ran their record to 5 and 1 with a 30 to 6 victory over the junior tigers. Fullback Ryan Freeman continues to be a punishing runner as he scored two touchdowns. Quarterback Devin Murphy continues to improve as he hit several pass plays one to Blaine Dunnigan for a score. Brandon Bruce picked off a Tiger pass returning it for a score. Three two point conversions rounded out the scoring. As I said in the future thread earlier, the talent pool seems to be deep and wide as so many young men are coming out for football. The Rebel coaching staff continues to do a great job getting the JV team games so they can continue to grow and mature as players. You can not replace game experience and these young Rebels are getting a great taste of it.

I also must correct a misstatement I made about the young Rebels when I said that they had posted wins against 1A and 2A opponents. I misstated as one of their victories came against a 3A school early in the year.

Rolling, Rolling, Rolling Keep Those Rebels Rolling!

  12. Last year

Hull was the division one while West Hardin and Evadale were the division two, it would be the same this year if is those three if High Island gets in they would be divsion two as they are smaller than any of the other three that they might surplant in the trio.

Enrollment figures in Texas Football this years are

    Evadale      145

    Hull            190

    West Hardin 166

    Burkeville    103

    Chester        69

    Colmesneil    195

    High Island  110

    Sabine Pass  104

  13. Taking things one game at a time is just what the Rebels have been doing and it is working quite well. Anyone can see that the road that awaits in the playoffs is a tough one, but that is why they call it "the playoffs". Everyone who gets to that point is a good team! I do know that the Rebels are still hungry and the appetite is for more than a single playoff game.

Rebel football is on the rise and it has a bright future ahead of it. There are more boys coming out for teams at all levels and only a small percentage of guys that don't play. After the first grading period they still have the players to fill out their varsity and junior varsity rosters. Except for the minor dings that players will get they have been relatively free from injury. Football is a funny game and sometimes it is not how good you are it is how good you are on a given day, anyone watch the Giants beat the Patriots in last years Super Bowl. Maybe a stretch by comparison, but it does illustrate a point.

    Go Rebels

  14. Just a quick update,

Bud was awakened yesterday by the doctors. The reports say that his neck is broken, but it is in an area where they do not expect any loss of movement. He will most likely be in a halo rig from 6 to 9 months. He had a broken rib with bruised lungs and that was the reason for the ventilator, to help ease his breathing. He did have some blood on the brain that they were considering surgery to alleviate the pressure, but I did not hear if they did the surge yesterday or not.

Let me say thak you for the outpouring of concern and prayers for Bud and his family. This will be a situation that they are dealing with for months to come. I will keep everyone updated on his progress, just know that your response was appreciated.

    Praying for you, Bud
