  1. I heard that one of the HD players is or was hurt. What's his name and do we have a report on his status. We all hope that he is not seriously injured.
  2. This might be one of the closest district races in the state this year. The six teams in this district are capable of defeating any other team on any given night. Home court seems to be a big advantage as the home teams are 5-1 in two games so far. The Rebels get their first chance to break the trend as they play the Sharks on Friday night in their adopted home in Nederland and then on to HD next Tuesday. With Spurger coming to Evadale on the 30th things might have become a little clearer, but it is possible that it still might be a jumble as to which team rises to the top and who follows along for 2nd and 3rd. I would not be surprised to see some of this drama played out in a playoff. We had a three way tie for volleyball earlier and we could be headed that direction again this time with boys basketball. I will say this. The Rebels have battled and done what they needed to do over the last three games to win ball games. It is good to see that the team is responding to the difficulties and finding ways to overcome them. I would take exception to BigTimePlayer calling WH one "NOT" one of the top teams in the district since they did knock off SP last night. All the 25A games should be great and hopefully the teams that do move on will benefit from the tough road they have to travel to get there.
  3. Great Job Rebels! What an effort, it was a start to finish contest that was not decided until the clock go to 0:00. Micah Stringers two clutch free throws with less than 10 seconds to sealed the deal. It is great to see the team on top of the standings even though it is early in the first half. But in this district every game is a test and after a couple at home its two on the road. I saw somewhere that home teams in the district are 5-1 so far this season and it is going to take some team taking a couple of wins at someone else's house to stay on top. The first opportunity comes Friday as you travel to SP. This is two nights in a row that the Rebel gym was rocking as last Friday all four teams swept WH and last night all three did the same to HI. The Lady Rebels (18-3) continue to dominate as do the JV Boys (17-1).
  4. Truth you hear right! The Rebels seem to be having fun and it is not just winning a couple of games back to back, they are just having a blast on the court and it is showing as they are running Coach Wilkins steams and hustling from start to finish. They got a little later start than half the district with football playoffs and they Rebels are young on Senior Micah Stringer will be lost from this team at years end. They are also deep on a JV squad that is now 16-1 on the season having beaten mostly 2A and 3A teams. Basketball in Evadale is definitely on its way up once again. The 10 guys on the team are so interchangeable and the level of play remains high no matter which players are on the floor. If they can stay out of foul trouble theyare tough to handle. They are quick and the 3 point shooting is becoming more consistant. The inside play is handled by a couple of sophomores Adam Stark and Tyler Tucker and both can make things difficult in the paint. Kyler Bradshaw has improved his game and is a threat from just about any spot on the court. Billy Nichols' game has improved and he now has a sweet running hook across the lane that makes him hard to defend. Justin Potts is quick at the point and Jared Harrington can pull up and shoot when runs the offense. Freshman Devin Murphy adds another outside shot to the arsenal. Colton Whitehead brings in rebounding and another good sized body in the point when he is called on. Stringer is the captain and he can score and rebound and is always leading by example on the floor. I believe that the Rebels will handle High Island as they did West Hardin. This is going to be a tough district from start to finish and I believe that teams have to defend their home courts. The teams that make the playoffs will be the ones that can go in and get a couple of wins on the road. The Rebels have held their own against upper classification teams and while not winning a great deal of their games they are now battle tested and ready to compete in a tough district 25A.
  5. The Evadale Rebels won the EC JV Tourney against Legacy Christian by the score of 51 to 43. The JV Rebels are now 16-1 averaging 51 points a game while holding their opponents to 28. This team also took third place in the Kountze Tournament (freshman bracket) earlier this year as the only 1A team in that tournament. This team has 11 players who work well together. 3 juniors, 3 sophomores and 4 freshmen. With a varsity squad that has only one senior, 3 juniors, 6 sophomores and a freshman things are looking up for the future of Rebel basketball.
  6. Great game and great night! The Rebels opening district with a hard fought "W" was of course the icing on the cake of a night that saw the Rebels win all four games against the Oilers. In fact the varsity boys game was the only one that was even a contest as the JV girls, JV boys and varsity girls all won by 30 or more. Congrats to the Lady Rebels who are now 3-0 in district and seem to be in overdrive. The JV boys play this afternoon for the championship of the East Chambers JV tournament and to improve their record to 16-1. Rebel basketball is definitely on the rise and the present looks as promising as the future! Great job REBELS...ALL OF YOU!
  7. After an impressive 14-3 record in their predistrict games with all the losses coming to higher classification schools the Lady Rebels of Evadale are on a roll. Two convincing wins to start district make it evident that the #10 ranking they have here on SETXSports and their #19 ranking from TABC are both well deserved. The Lady Rebels program under Robert Hollyfield have established themselves as an elite program that consistently wins district and enters the playoffs. This year with a veteran senior laden squad all the elements are in place to make a serious run towards Austin. I admit that getting deep into the playoffs will be difficult. There are plenty of quality programs that will be in the playoffs, but I expect that the Lady Rebels will keep the petal to the metal as they move through district. They can not afford to loose the competitive edge that they gained in the non district portion of the schedule. For six seniors this is their last go round and they have to want it bad and go out night after night and take it. I am always a Rebel fan and I always think that our teams are going to win, that is why they call people like me fans. I know all these young ladies and I admire the efforts that they put out when they step on the court. I just want to conclude by saying that it sure would be a great ride to all the way to Austin, but as always take them one game at a time and everything will work out alright. GO REBELS!
  8. With the start of district just around the corner and an impressive victory over Big Sandy Tuesday night I believe that the Evadale Lady Rebels are poised to take District 25A. I believe that their ranking as the #10 team in the area is well deserved. I see deep run into playoffs in their future and who knows where that might take them. Coach Robert Hollyfield has a talented senior laden team that can set the tempo of a game on any given night. The Lady Rebels play tough defense and they have a number of scorers on the team. Look out 25A cause here come the Lady Rebels!
  9. First off let me say that I do not favor this at all, but if we are so concerned about blow outs then we need to look at a couple of other sports baseball and six-man football. If we are this concerned then put in a mercy rule! 10 run lead after five innings or up by 50 points by half time are their standards. It would not be out of line to say that if a football team was up by 35 at half or if the other team had not scored and the team that was ahead had 28 or more. What about in basketball? A team up by 30 at the half or after the 3rd quarter. Well since this is not going to ever happen I am with those who say use this as a motivation to get better. Everyone of our teams begin the season believing that they will be the district champion and make it into the playoffs. You can't ask a team to not do what they believe will in fact get them to their goal. It is not an excuse it is a fact. If the game begins to get out of hand score wise then go to a running clock. If your team has trouble scoring stall to slow the game down. We make a big deal out of a game in a season in a school career that will be a fleeting memory in just a couple of years. I don't like getting "blown out", but it has happened to me and I don't believe that it scared me for life. I do understand that when our kids get into the real world that it will be petal to the metal and no one has to have mercy on them as they compete for jobs or for business once they get those jobs. Life has some difficult lessons and if loosing a game by 30 or 40 or 50 or more is the worst thing that happens to them then they will be doing alright. It is a game some win, some lose, both can be by a little or a lot. The records show a W or an L not the score that got them there.
  10. There is no one in the country that can say that hiring Scott Drew at Baylor was a great move. Youo have to hand it to a coach who would step into the mess that was left at BU from the last coach. As a Baylor Alum I am always excited when the Bears do well, but in the case of the basketball team the truth be told we are just glad that there is still a program. The Ferrell Center is a far cry from the years at the HOT on the fair grounds back when Vinny Johnson and Terry Teagle were in the green and gold, but the program is now on solid footing and getting better and better. I would love to get to Waco one night for a double header when both the Lady Bears and the Bears were playing. In a conference where basketball has at least gotten on the radar in the football dominated Big 12 it is great to see your school not just compete, but to succeed at a very high level. Sic Em Bears
  11. Hey Bucman The Rebels were at EC for a JV game late in the season and I sure like what you have done to the stadium and it still looked like more was being done.
  12. No harm no foul LUFAN But I do agree with mffl. The Bears are moving up in just about every sport and I can assure you that the money that Baylor gets from being a member of the Big 12 is big, "VERY BIG". Consider this if you will. In a two year period the Bears will have home football games with UT, OU, A&M, Tech, and OSU. In a four year period they will have home games with Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri and Iowa State. I can tell you that even the weakest team in the 12 is a better draw for a home game than TCU, SMU, Rice and even Uof H back in the SWC days. I am not knocking any of those other great schools, in fact they all have had great success since the SWC broke up, some much better than Baylor! In the world of big time college athletics I will say again it is all about money and there is no doubt that despite the football record Baylor has benefited greatly from its membership in the Big 12 and if push came to shove I believe that the four schools that did not go into the Big 12 would have loved the opportunity to gain from being a member as Baylor has. I do look forward to being able to travel the short distance into Beaumonet and see college football. I have a son at SFA and I went to a game this year, my first college game to attend in many years. It was awesome! I know the Cardinal faithful will enjoy having some great new memories on Saturdays. It will be difficult to begin with I am sure, but success will come I have a great feeling about the return of football to LU and I believe it will be a big boost to the entire area and I feel that it will have a positive effect on other sports on the LU program. Who knows maybe the Bears and Cards can get together for a football game in the future. I was a junior at Baylor the last time that happened in 1980. This has been a great thread continued success to the Cardinals and to all their fans!
  13. LUFAN I agree that Lamar is on the upswing and I will be the first to say "GREAT JOB LU!" I would also so that the Bears (notice that I don't call them my Bears since I graduated in 1981) are still competitive in what is argueably the toughest division in the toughest conference in the country. Three teams in the final top ten in football for example. There are three teams ranked in the top ten in Men's basketball during this early part of the season. And yes the Bears have seen better days, but I will say that the Bears have won a couple of national championships in the past few years (women's basketball and men's tennis). The Lady Bears are ranked in the top ten, the means team is ranked 24th just a few years removed from the program being nearly wiped out. The Bears baseball team is almost always ranked in the top 25 the Lady Bears softball team made it to the college world series last year. The Men's track team is always highly ranked and competing for conference and national championships annually. And now with the completion of the new $34 million indoor practice facility located on campus the Bears football team which won more conference games than they ever have since the Big 12 was formed looks at least in a position to draw more recruits and raise the level of play to a respectable level. Better days in Waco, I believe that the best days are yet to come, but only time will tell. Oh and one more time Go Cardinals!
  14. Hey when you are a Baylor grad who fondly remembers when your school was at least in consideration for a bowl game every couple of years. When your school is doing something right you just want to cheer. I respect the job that the Lady Cards are doing, but really, is this any different from the Lamar football team scheduling A&M in a couple of years. I can understand wanting to get better by playing better competition, but come on. Is it really in the players best interests to play a team that unless the bus breaks down is going to kill you. It is like everything else in college sports, money! Why else would a lesser team really want to schedule a team that is going to not just hand a loss on you, but make you look bad in the process. While I did not graduate from Lamar I have lots of people that are friends of mine who are or who are going there now. I expect the Cardinals men and women to be competitive in their conference night in and night out. THEY HAVE PROVED THAT! but I think that it is a bit much to ask of a team to play that far above their level. The Lady Bears are only a few years removed from a national championship. There will occasionally be an Appalanhan State/Michigan from a few years ago, but for everyone on e of those there are 500 romps. I will say it "GO CARDS", but at least leave me the privilege to toot my horn about something from my Alma Mater, please?
  15. As Will Sonnet used to say... No brag, just fact! You have to know old estern TV shows to know who Will Sonnet is.
  16. Lest anyone forget that the Rebels are playing upper classicication teams in the tournaments they are playing and improvement is coming. The team is still young as the starting five is a senior, a junior and three sophomores and this is the beginning of their third week of practice. It would be unwise to count the Rebels out before the district schedule even begins!
  17. Great Job Lady Rebels It was an exciting weekend of basketball in the Rebel gym and the improvement in your rank from 15 to 12 is due to your outstand performances during the first couple of weeks of the season. 8-1, 2nd in one tournament with a two point loss to EC a ranked team and the championship in your own tournament this past weekend with victories over a 2A, 3A and last years tournament champion Starks from Louisiana. Just continue to keep up the good work and continue to play hard. We are all behind you.
  18. The Spurs are fine! Injuries are just part of the game. Manu will only get better as the season goes on. The Spurs won't be the top seed in the west, but I believe that they will be no worse than forth with a home court for round one. If there is one thing the Spurs know how to do...that's win!
  19. Bring it home Kirbyville! It is a great thing you have done and you might as well finish the job. Evadale will be pulling for you.
  20. The Lady Rebels are now 4-1 and only two points away from being undefeated on this young season. Coach Hollyfiled has the team playing at a high level already and with the teams coming up in the pre distirict schedule they will be more than ready to make a run at the district championship and beyond. Plenty of senior leadership and great role players should make for a great season. I know that it is early, but the Lady Rebels have what it takes to make this a GREAT season.
  21. Basketball is starting. Evadale take the Football "SWAGGA" into another sport and dominate yet again. As for you powerlifters, burns, Big B, conns, 8train, and every1 else lets go and show up those bigger schools like we did last year. Evadale lets dominate for the rest of Evadale history. Carrying our swagga all the way.
