  1. Once all the players are confirmed the rosters will be posted. More leter!
  2. It had to be the Evadale Hull-Daisetta game. The only thing that would have been better about it for Rebel fans is for it to have been at HD instead of at West Hardin's field.
  3. Well since Evadale has beaten Big Sandy once and SP twice and the Rebels are undefeated in district, it seems like the Rebels under your "poll" would be the best 1A team in the area. I am not that familuar with Chester having only seen them in the Evadale tournament for a few innings and they lost one and won one. The West Sabine Tigers did defeat the Rebels early in the season by one, but that was after the Rebels had only had a couple of practices. I would suggest that all the polls might want to take a step back and let the districts play out. Once the play-off spots are decided then it will be much easier to decide who has the best team, it will only be a couple of weeks till the seasons end.
  4. The Evadale Catfish Festival that it is bringing back the Catfish Classic All Star games. The games will be played on Saturday, May 9th at 3:30 PM for the girls and 5 PM for the boys. Students are now being invited from most of the 1A schools in southeast Texas to participate. Most of these senior players have faced these same players since they were in Little Dribblers and for once some of them will have the chance to play with some of those opponents while it will be the same as they face off as foes once again. The games will be played in the recently restored gym on the Evadale campus and players their family and friends are invited to come to the festival or stay at they festival for a great time on May 9th. There are lots more things to get excited about at the Evadlae Catfish Festival so visit their website www.catfishfestival.net for additional info and activities.
  5. The Evadale Catfish Festival is adding some new events that will give adult sportsmen and women the opportunity to compete. April 25th - King and Queen Scholarship Golf Tournament @ Silesbee County Club Check the website www.catfsihfestival.net for entry forms and additional information May 9th - Horseshoe Tournament Check the website There will also be a car and bike show on the 9th and a motorcycle run that day too! Hope to see lots of people there for a great festival!
  6. Hey sounds like MO may have come up with a way to fix the financial crisis...just ask every body on SETXSports.com for $500!
  7. You know the football poll earlier this year did not have this kind of "My dogs bigger than your dog!' stuff. I do think the Rebels should be highly rated in this poll and have said so, I think they could and would give some larger school a run for their money, but I don't have to throw water on other schools to do it. I would like to see several State Championship trophies calling Southeast Texas home for the next year, will it happen? I don't know. I would just like for everyone to dial it down and stay possitive about their schools teams and let the chips fall where they will when all the teams reach the end of their district schedules and begin their run into the playoffs. Good luck to all the schools whatever your classification!
  8. You can take Mo's predictions to the bank. I believe Potts will get the start or Harvey so get ready for another Rebel "W"!
  9. Great Job Rebels! The three by the Tyler's were awesome. Tucker with 2 and Ousley with one. There was great hustle all over the diamond. Billy behind the plate did his usual best and every one did great. To the Sharks, I say you boys were scrappy and did not give up it would have been easy to fold after the first inning, but to your credit you hung in and pushed the Rebels. I for one like them closer and to go the distance. Everyone stayed to see the outcome and save the final score no one was disappointed. The Sabine Pass fans were great too and they were right there with their team even as they left the field. A good game ALL AROUND!
  10. Good last point sahan. I coach a couple of years at a private school in Austin. It was a small private school and we scheduled alot of 1A schools for basketball games. We did not win many of those games, but the simple fact that we scheduled against public schools allowed us to "recruit" players for our program. Private schools can never be forced to adheare to rules since they are not under the Texas Education Agency. They do not get tax money so believe me if someone says abide by the rules or else, many will choose "or else"! There are some fine private schools in Texas, schools that offer more than public schools can offer especially acedemically, but once they are allowed into UIL then you will see the emergence of schools like those mentioned already in this post. They will be fling to play schools in other states and getting huge facilities to impress athletes and parents. Welcome to the beginning of the Texas mini NCAA. Boosters building indoor practice football facilities, tutors for athletes, and yes eventially a dome stadium at some high school. And we are impressed with a school that can install field turf, just you wait the bidding war for high school athletes is just about to start!
  11. A number of Evadale's football players will still be knee deep in baseball after track season so not all the Rebels will get to start even then.
  12. The Rebels are rolling right now and I would have to say that they will be extremlely difficult to beat. My prediction Rebels 8 Sharks 2
  13. The Rebels will be young, but solid in 2009. I have said it before and I will say it again. While JV is not varsity, the players who had 8 games on the JV last year gained something that can not come from standing on the sidelines of the varsity...experience. Only two other schools had JV (HD & WH) and they did not finish out the season like the Rebel JV did. The mix of young varsity players, many of the juniors in 2009 will have two years of varsity experience plus the addition of players of the JV squad will make the Rebels salty from the start of the season and they will only get better as they gel in the non district portion of the schedule. When people discount the JV expereince they forget that this JV scrimmaged everyday against the varsity squad that won the district last season. They helped get the varsity ready for their contests while taking care of business for their own schedule. There are some big shoes to fill from a great senior class, but I believe that the 2009 edition of the Rebels will fill them nicely and a repeat of the district crown is not out of reach.
  14. There can be no dening that Baylor has come a long way in a short time under coach Scott Drew! This program to be where they are (yes, the NIT championship) is a great thing. Just a reminder that they are the only Big 12 mens team still playing. They have made a fantastic run in the past three weeks, defeating Kansas, Texas, Georgertown, Virgina Tech, Auburn and San Diego State. To still be playing is the thing. The Bears are looking for good press and the story will be told over and over tonight as the annoncers talk about the game and the teams. Prime time from Madison Square Garden. No it is not the final four in Detroit, but at this point in the season it sure beats watching from home. Oh course teams and players want to be in the NCAA's, but players want to play and championships are championships, Does a team turn down the Cotton Bowl because it is not a BCS Bowl? NO! and they don't hide the trophy if they win the game. Winning is what recruits want to see in the schools they choose. Baylor is still the only private school in the Big 12. They are competitive in all sports including football for the first time. They have nationally ranked teams in many sports. They have national chapionships in a couple over the last few years. They send athletes to the Olympics, MLB, NBA and they likely will have a player drafted as high as #2 in the upcoming NFL draft. Players + winning = recruits. That is the formula for college success. Sitting home after elimination from the NCAA's or the championship of the NIT ask a player where they would like to be tonight?
  15. I would go for a 1A - 2A list like football, since the question will never be answered on the field.
  16. I would think that the Evadale Rebels could get into the top 10 with a 9-2-1 record (6-0) in district having scored over 80 runs in those six games. Monday they mercy ruled Big Sandy 10-0 and on Wednesday the mauled Leggett 22-1. Hitting and pitching are strengths this year for the Rebels and I believe that they should be able to get a nod into the top 10.
  17. Registering OK, what about starting a season and then cancelling it. From the wording it sounds more like once you start you need to finish, but you can not start with cause. I fear for WH that starting and then stopping may be trouble for them next year.
  18. football you need to read your own post. "sufficient justification for not entering a team" sounds like not putting a team in to start a season not justification for cancelling a season once it has begun. Schools can choose to not have a football team, or a volleyball team or a baseball or softball team, but once you do then the "not entering" clause seems to be a moot point. They did enter and as such penalties should be the only option the UIL can take. Might not be fair to the players coming after, but it would seem to be the way it is. I for one am still surprised that a school the size of West Hardin (only two years removed from 2A) can't field a team for baseball. WOW!
  19. Well this is still a bit early since baseball and softball are still in the heart of their district seasons, but it is sure looking like the 2008-2009 athletic year in 1A is the "Year of the Rebels" The girls shared the volleyball crown, were undefeated in basketball and are looking good in softball. The guys took care in football and are undefeated in baseball, they even made some noise in basketball before bowing out late in district. The 2009 senior class at Evadale will be long remembered for their contributions to the athletic tradition of Evadale. In a school that boosts a couple of state championship monuments it will always be a difficult comparison as the very top will always be in peoples minds, but this years graduates have done very well to carry on the traditions of those state teams and all that have come before and after those great teams. The senior girls have had an incredible run with many district championships and trips to the playoffs to their credit. The senior guys have been to the playoffs in football and baseball for three years. To all the 2009 Rebel seniors thanks for show! Know that the tradition will continue and that you had a hand in making 2008-2009 "The year of the Rebels!"
  20. Easy MO, You will bust something holding in all that stress! It could be worse...it could be snow?
  21. It is difficult to get into any rhythm with the rainouts and now WH closing out their season. I hope that the teams that will have the opportunity to advance into the playoffs will not be hurt by these problems. The Rebels looked good in their game against Big Sandy yesterday. It was evident that they were a bit rusty from not playing for a few days. I just hope that the district can get the games shuffled to provide a more consistant schedule with the remaining teams and games left on the schedule.
  22. Hey whoknows09 I think you have great kids in HI. To go through what your kids have been through this year and to come out swinging (pardon the pun) will make them better men and women in their adult years. It would have been easy to fold the tents and pack in the year, but to the credit of the coaches, kids and administration you all pulled together and pressed on. Championships are great, but fleating...character lasts a lifetime!
  23. I think we need to be concerned with the school part for our student athletes. I love to watch my kids and all the fkids play sports!, but I also want them to be great in the classroom. I know that 99.5% of kids playing sports in high school will not play in college, but 75% of the kids in our high schools will go on to college or vocational training. The spring is so crowded anyway with the end of basketball, powerlifting, baseball, softball, track, tennis and golf. Throw in UIL acedemics and one act play, add in the TAKS test about 10 days in the spring and I am surprised that the teachers have the kids in class three days a week, especially in smaller schools where kids are doing multipule things. I know we want to see our kids, but if getting them home earlier and ready for the next day in class is at least a benefit of earlier games then I say it is a good thing.
