All of the student participants deserve respect whether it be the players, band, cheerleaders, etc. All of them started over the summer in the heat practicing for hours. All of them showed up on game day. It is the same for students that played/performed for winning schools and losing schools. They are all winners by the fact that they showed up when others did not. Some fans might not deserve respect and some of them bring discredit to their schools. Let's not confuse the fans with the players that have the guts to go through the practices and spend their hours getting ready when they could be taking it easy. Congratulations to all the students that showed up and gave us something to look forward to and to cheer for.

Nederland vs. Lamar Consolidated Predictions?

Realistically, LC by three or four touchdowns. Emotionally, I hope that Neumann and his Dogs can pull another one out of the hat. -
I was on the 50 on the 10th row. I should have looked over my shoulder.

etbu, You were right about GP's lack of fan support. After an 8-2 season and going into the playoffs (and a short drive), you would think they could bring a crowd. What ashame it is for their players, band, etc.

A lot of discussion goes on about the best coaching staffs and there are some good ones in southeast Texas. Larry Neumann has the reputation of being one of those coaches and some consider him to have the best staff in the area. This is especially true with the talent level that comes out of Nederland. You won't see any D1 recruiters beating down the door to the Nederland field house year after year. Games like tonight just go to further Neumann's reputation though. Five weeks ago, Nederland was given up for dead by most people in the area and even by a few Bulldog fans. They were 1-4 and 0-2 in district. All they have done since then is win 5 out of 6 games and completely blow away their bi-district opponent. This is the 10th year in a row that Nederland has won their bi-district game. Larry Neumann gears up the Bulldog's season aiming for the playoffs. They play a tough preseason schedule and makes a lot of changes heading into district trying to find the best combination of players. They always seem to be peaking near playoff time. Nederland will be a heavy underdog next week and they should be. Lamar Consolidated is stacked with talent and has really put it on most of the teams they have played this year. It would not surprise me if Nederland gets hammered next week. They need to create some big breaks just to stay in the game. As long as Larry Neumann is the coach however, there is always that possibility.

We might be the winner in the longest sentence on setxsports.com. -
So is that the most popular in fan support or the most talked about?

Have you looked back at the Nederland posts from this thread? We have all said that we are the underdog not GP. That underdog roll is just a word game by a smart coach. He doesn't want to give Nederland any incentive and maybe make them overconfident. In any case, it doesn't matter what the fans on this site believe, it is what the players think when they take the field. I don't think the Bulldog players are hitting the field Saturday night thinking that they are the favorites against an 8-2 team from any district.

How Many Teams Do You Feel Should Make Playoffs?
tvc184 replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I don't see how you can say that in a blanket statement. How are two teams in a 6 team district going to necessarily be better than 3 teams from an 8 or 9 team district. In any case, how can 3 teams weaken anything? Does a district champion get weaker by playing the #2 team in the first round of the playoffs? -
I was able to get 2, 4, 5, 10, 11 without looking at the names. The others I had to look at the team names.

How Many Teams Do You Feel Should Make Playoffs?

I was wondering why you said "easy". I didn't think you were getting flamed. I look back at WO-S sitting at home their last three years in 4A as the 4th team in our district. Nederland was the 3rd place team and going to the quarter or semi-finals. WO-S could have done at least that good. The problem is this, do you set all districts playoff teams by the weakest districts in the state that have very little competition or do you set the playoff teams by the strong districts. It is very true that the 3rd place team in a lot of districts could not beat the cellar dwellers in 22-4A or 21-3A. That could also be said of some of the 1st place teams in some of the weaker districts. I bet there are some districts where even the 1st place team rarely makes it past the first game. Do you set the rules to give strong teams in a strong district a chance, thereby allowing a weaker district with an undeserving team an extra game or do you punish the strong district in order to keep a possibly weaker team out of the playoffs on the other side of the state? I feel more strongly to let the deserving teams in with the knowledge that some undeserving teams will slip in the back door rather than kick out some very good teams simply because a district somewhere else doesn't live up to the competition level in most of the state. Just my opinion. -
I had to go to nfl.com and looked at the names. Then they are fairly easy. Especially 15.

Ask the kids that and see what the answer is. I don't think many (or any) of them would turn down the playoffs because they might get hurt or beat. How is a playoff game any different than any other game on chances of getting hurt or beat?
