  1. I only have to drive about 15 minutes to get to saltwater. By the same token, I have to drive almost two hours to get to the big East Texas bass lakes. Then I have to figure on spending at least the night. Two of my best days ever saltwater fishing were after I got off of work, drove two blocks away and then fished off of the dock. I caught lots of fish and kept 20 specks (legally) before I got home from work. I don't get seasick, I don't pay attention to the tidal charts but I agree on cleaning the equipment. My round trip drive time to Rayburn or Toledo is 4 hours. I can wash a lot of fishing rods and hose down my boat. For my opinion, saltwater is more of a pure fishing event. It is usually more active, there are large number of species that can be caught from small pan fish to up to hundreds of pounds and they generally fight more. You can never be sure exactly what kind of fish is going to be on the end of your line after the cast. Freshwater fishing is more of a laid back, fish for the sake of fishing trip. You aren't going because you can fill the boat with fish, the fish isn't likely to strip a lot of line from your reel and you usually know what fish is going to hit your lure/bait. There seems to be a little more of a hunting aspect to freshwater, at least for bass. The thrill of the hunt is usually more interesting than the actual time spent reeling them in. My freshwater fishing is usually more relaxing and much more scenic than saltwater. I consider it more of a vacation type fishing to saltwater's working kind of fishing. Both are great but if I had to pick one, it would have to be in the salt.
  2. 1.5 seconds left. Lamar down by 2 but with the inbound pass...and the finish is............ EDIT: 64-62 final. Lamar missing a 22 foot three pointer to win the game.
  3. Next time, you can call Dell.com support in India and get a better price.
  4. I used to wonder about that myself but I don't think it hurts and if it does, not much. Lamar basketball is a local sport and almost like high school football. Either you want to go to the games or you don't. Being on the tube probably has no bearing on it. It might be different for big time programs where people might drive for a couple of hours to get to a game. How far do people come from to see UCLA, North Carolina, etc? Coop, would you stay home and watch WO-S football on television on friday nights if it was live or would you go to the stadium and get a feel for the excitement? I would suspect that you would attend every game in person as would other fans. The people that stay home from those games would have stayed at home anyway, especially when it is on the radio.
  5. Maybe BISD will do like they did for Westbrook and do a search and take applications for a coach instead of just promoting from within. Maybe a coach already in BISD will win out but why limit the search? Promoting from within has hurt in the past and other schools have made the same mistake. Just look for the best person for the job.
  6. Nothing new about that play in its different variations. I have never heard of it where the qb calls the penalty and walks off the yardage however. PN-G ran a decoy play last year on Nederland for a touchdown but it was the wide receiver that did the trick. PN-G only had 10 men in the huddle but obviously Nederland was thinking it was a full 11 man team. PN-G then ran one player in like he was a 12th man. Naturally a player from the huddle has to leave the field to make 11 players or so Nederland players thought. The only problem was that there were only 11 on the field and the guy running to the sidelines never left the field. He just stood about 2 feet from the sidelines like he was talking to a coach. No one covered him and he received the pass for a touchdown. Great trick play.... but they lost anyway.
  7. I think the Raiders need to change their colors to something more intimidating. With a name like Raiders, their color scheme doesn't work well. That might get you a couple of more wins a year.
  8. How could it be boring? OF only won by 60.
  9. Grogan was not the player of the game but he sure brought some intensity to it. If he can keep that up for the next two years, he might be a great player.
  10. Here are BH96's hog pics. Nice pig.
  11. I certainly catch a lot more saltwater fish consistently. I have been saltwater fishing where I went home because I was tired of catching fish. I mean really tired. My arms hurts and I did not want to reel in any more fish. I have never been freshwater fishing where I was tired of reeling them in. I have been tired of bass fishing (especially in tournaments) because it felt like I just tossed a 9 inning ball game with all the casts. It was never from putting so many fish in the boat that I was physically exhausted.
  12. I had two people say that it was a great series. Kind of soap opera-ish but interesting. One described what has been going on so far this year. Well I watched this week and thought that it was pretty boring. I then spoke to both friends and they both said the same thing. In their opinion, this week was kind of lame compared to what has been shown so far. I am not sure if I will watch it again but maybe I can give it one more try.
  13. Freshwater is usually more laid back and usually has much prettier scenery. I have had some great memories fishing in freshwater from one of my bass boats on the big lakes to fishing in the canals around my house to fly fishing ponds around the Golden Triangle. For the pure fun of putting fish in the boat however, saltwater is head and shoulders above freshwater. I have never caught more than 100 bass in one outing but I have caught (but not kept) that many specks. I have caught saltwater species over 150 pounds and can fill a freezer if I want to stock up on fish for the year or for a big fish fry. Freshwater has its place but it is not even in the same league with saltwater.
  14. Now that is a beautiful high school facility. I wonder what the average household income is in the Cy-Fair area.
  15. Yes. Having a pretty backdrop adds nothing to the game. The box seats are nice but I don't see why you have to build that stadium to have box seats no more than you need something that extravagant to have field turf. Nederland's crowd filled up most of Stallworth Stadium's home side last week. If they had played in that pretty new stadium, there would have been about 2,000 less seats on the home side. Do I want to drive an extra 30-45 minutes in order so see a pretty stadium and then have 2,000 less seats to choose from? No, I will gladly have Nederland play in Stallworth.
  16. Mid-County. Collectively it is the cities of Nederland, Port Neches and Groves with the two high schools being Nederland HS and PN-G HS. They are just often lumped into one community and/or school in conversations, usually by someone from Port Arthur or Beaumont.
  17. Awesome looking stadium. Too bad that they spent several million dollars and didn't build a seating capacity any bigger than Nederland's and smaller than PN-G's. That seems to be a trend. Build a very nice looking stadium but cut back on seats and use the money to make it look pretty. I would rather a lot of good seats as opposed to a pretty entrance or a backdrop that looks like Disneyland. Give me a big stadium and field turf and I would be happy. I would hate to see the local school districts waste millions of dollars so that they can have a photo op to put on the internet.
  18. What is a Polaroid? Is that some kind of antique camera?
