1. Tough find for a 7mm-08 for less than $300.
 2.

We did pretty good yesterday.... 2 widheon, 1 teal, 1 ringneck, 8 gadwall, and a snow... seen lots of birds..... Bout to head out again
Looks like it was a nice productive outing, congrats.
Back when I hunted in the 70's and early 80's, that would have been a pitiful haul. When it got down to three birds and we were lucky to even get shots at three birds, is when I quit. I guess the days of three guys going out and bringing back 30 birds is over.
 3. I haven't killed anything the entire season. Then again, I haven't killed any waterfowl since 1988.
 4.
Just yesterday in Buna I found a fresh scrape near my stand with recent activity.  Evidently the rut is not totally over.
The fat lady hasn't sang. I think the rut is the most misunderstood and misguessed thing about deer hunting. The rut always extends over an extended period. Does will go back into estrus if not bred the first time. Doe population has a great impact on the length and timing of the rut. The rut is not caused or initiated by cold weather and a few other tidbits. Anyone that can pinpoint the rut in a given area consistently and in a very narrow time frame (as in 90% of deer are bred in that small time frame), then they can be millionaires.
As cool as it was to see all of the fishermen and actually fish there, it is causing bad erosion.  Well before Ike you could see the currents etc on the satellite pictures and see the beach sediment going into the bay area.  Nobody can deny the beaches were larger 25-30 years ago.
That is the way I look at it. I can't see doing all the damage that it causes in the name of helping a very few fishermen.
 6.
I use A .270, pretty cool, but last month i went on hunting with my friends the classical way. Bow and Arrow. Pretty cool 8)
Classic? You used wooden shafts, flint arrowheads, etc.?
 7.
Sounds like it. I have only seen one shootable deer and very little else. It was a doe only saw it very briefly. Hav e seen a few other little does and two bucks one which may have been a shooter spike but could not be sure it didn't have any extra pts. I have seen as many deer in one hunt in the past as I have all year so far.
True on the numbers. There was hardly a hunt in previous years that I couldn't kill a doe. This year even those are far between although I have two of them so far.
 8.
I was wondering if anyone in the Woodville area is having a slow year seeing deer.  This season has been bery slow where I hunt, not seeing near as many deer as in the past.
My lease is in Chester about 15 miles out of Woodville. We have taken more big bucks than any other year but really haven't seen much else. We usually see three times as many deer but get less shooters. This year the sightings are way down but our kills are up. Lucky?
 9. I can get rid of the fat but not the stench of an old boar.
 10.
Talk about hard to haul out of the woods. :o
Coyote bait.
 11. Y'all are doing a good job then if you keep the ratio right. That should lead to some better deer in the herd and more big bucks.
 12.

we found our first scrape saturday.  i'm not sure why they're starting so late.  we went back sunday and it was much larger.  i had a borderline 8-point come out in front of me saturday morning, and actually had does come out to him.  he seemed much more interested in the corn on the ground than he did in chasing the does.
Where are you hunting?? Here a cpl of miles West of Lumberton the main Rut is OVER no question about it, I go EVERY day, have been finding and watching scrapes since late Aug, just yesterday I looked at 5-6 and none have been worked since before the rain 2+ weeks ago. We too have taken 6 does to date and all have been bred, one of which was taken the first week and had a 2-3" fetus, I'm sure we will take 10 or so in the comming weeks, surely most will be bred, but my mission is to pick the 'baron does' out of the herd. IMO if your wanting to hunt the Rut go SOUTH or WEST
Must not have many does if they are all bred.
 13.
i'm going back tonight to try my luck again.  i gotta new gun to play with, so that's going to make the trip good whether i see anything or not :)
What is the new gun/setup?
 14. I don't remember ever making a shot to write home about. All of my deer kills have pretty much been broadside or quartering shots at 100 yards or less. I may have made some long shots on ducks back in the day but none specifically come to mind. I do remember making a head shot on a rabbit at about 60 yards or so with a .22 rifle and no scope or rest. Easy shot as the rabbit was in the open but just long for open sights.
 15.
Lots of doe's.  No bucks.
Sounds like plenty of good eating.
 16.
VB maybe u got an old DPS officer, he may've still been in that state of mind.   ;D
A road soldier becoming to be a possum cop?
 17. I got the joke.... that's why I followed up with mine.  :D
 18. It is simple, the best team won. To think that Crosby yawned its way through the game though is ludicrous. Nederland gave up about 300 yards on the ground... but Crosby gave up 300 yards in the air. Is there a difference? Crosby gives up 3 touchdown passes to the 4th string quarterback that is really the starting defensive end and wasn't the quarterback until 4 games ago. While some may mistakenly claim that Crosby had its second string in near the end of the game, Nederland came into the game with half of its second string on the field. The best team won and should be congratulated but Nederland put up a valiant effort. All that you can do in any endeavor in life is to give it your best and the Bulldogs gave it their best. For that, they should be congratulated.
 19.
Isn't that vehicle profiling??   Call a lawyer!!   ;D
And what? The vehicle has the right to remain running, if the vehicle gives up the right to remain running it has the right to a mechanic, if the vehicle does not pick a mechanic then one may be appointed for it and the vehicle can stop the repair at any time.
 20.
Whats was the yardage gained by Neds offense?  And what was the yardage gave up on defense?  Anyone have any figures?
According to the Houston Chronicle: 308 yards of total offense 17 first downs
 21.
i hate to say this cause i picked WO-S to win state this yr. Coldspring by 7 hope i'm wrong but....we'll see
Pretty good call.
 22. Defensively, Nederland gave up an average of 371 yards a game in the first 5 games and 298 yards a game in the second 5.
 23.
Maybe if we had stats in REDZONE effencity and turnover ratio that might explain it.
If I counted correctly, Nederland is -9 on turnovers for the year. They key though is which games and it was a huge difference between the first 5 games and the second in both turnovers and offense. First 5 games Nederland had a 1-4 record. They were -12 in turnovers and had an average offense output of 175 yards per game. In the second 5 games Nederland had a 4-1 record. They were +3 in turnovers and had an average offense output of 313 yards per game. It was definitely a tale of two seasons but the averages are brought pretty far down by the dismal showing in the first half of the season.
 24.
I do understand where you are coming from spoonbill. A lot of public and private lands will be hurt for possibly several of years until the herd as a whole matures. I hunted for years growing up on a lease where if you see horn, shoot. Not only that, the pressure was intense (too many hunters, overkills, poaching, etc.). If you killed something around 16", it was a "Monster". Well, when they finally let some walk, they kill 18-20" regularly now, by putting age on them. That is the point of this regulation. Additionally, Public or private, poaching will always be a problem. I have family that have done it in the past, and still for the life of me can't figure out why, I have a family of four, and we barely can eat 2-3 deer a year and we eat it a lot. BUUUUUTTTTTT, I guess I get my opinion on all this due to the fact, if I don't kill something for meat, I can always go to market basket. I take pride in watching a herd mature. I always say, I am a hunter, not a killer. But again, I can see many people's frustration on this, because for some, it could take years to get a mature group, and we all no, a lot of places in east texas seem to be missing genetics, or they haven't gotten old enough for us to see them.
The whole herd that is at least yearlings, will mature in two years. That is assuming that every deer older than 1.5 years old has been killed. A normal buck fawn should be outside his ears within three years. Got to start somewhere.
 25.
okay honestley i think yall are all dumb.. and if i had to chose and ones side on this it would be happyhour4's.. i understand where he is coming from and why is Bucof2010 acting like he knows everything?
