heck a well placed shot from a .22 will knock down most anything in Texas.
Yeah, if it is well placed in the head.

Maybe Neumann can get Nederland to up the offer again.... especially if Nederland comes from their 1-4 start to make the playoffs. :)
I see what you're saying... but it seems that winning typically breeds winning. That type of run to me exceeds just talent and coaching. Anywho.... I think he deserves another year to right the ship.
I think you are correct about the winning breeds winning. A lot more kids come out for the team and generally play with more enthusiasm in my opinion. When you think you are supposed to win, everyone wants to be a part of it and they play like it. Get a few years of losing under your belt and some of that goes away.

I know that he should not even be considered as a top quarterback and probably won't even be a quarterback for his senior year but Dionte Forney from Nederland has sure been impressive in two starts. He has 538 yards, 6 touchdowns and only 1 interception. That is after coming, not off the bench, but off for a few weeks with an injury and playing two years (including this year) at defensive end.

How many head coaches will that make for them in the past 8 years? They have lots more problems going on in LaMarque than wins/losses. I don't know who would want to take that job.
Two years ago it was one of the premier jobs in the state. Gone are the days of LaMarque being considered a title contender each year. It seems like just yesterday that we had the Coog fans on this site crowing that LM would always be there in the thick of things. No playoffs? Losing seasons? Such is life in football. Get you a good coach and make the playoffs a few years and think you are invincible. The coach moves on and it is a toss of the dice if you get a good one to replace him.
In LM's defense... they did a little more than that. 9 SC appearances - 5 titles - in like 12 years - under 3 different coaches.
So they had three good coaches and some talent during those same years. What was Nederland before Larry Neumann or Dayton before Jerry Stewart?
My son has killed lots of animals with his .223, with just factory loads. I haven't seen much difference in stopping power from the .243. He has knocked down whitetail, big pigs, axis and even an Auodad. i know they are not recommended for the larger game, but a well placed shot will stop about anything in the hill country.
HA... shows how little you know. You need at least a 300 Win Mag to knock down whitetails in Texas. ;D
I have some hand load 63 grain that my dad made for me. I've seen it destroy vitals out to 100 yards with the 55 grain SPBT. Not many people realize how much damage they will cause. What grain do you shoot? I may have to look into the Federal bonded.
I use 62 grain. Yep, the .223 destroys lots of tissue and is very deadly on deer. People don't like them because the rounds tend to explode inside of the deer and not exit. Sometimes the deer run a way before they drop with the small round and don't leave much of a blood trail. That is why I tried the Federal bonded to see how they penetrated. I shot a doe with it last November and waited until she was quartering away. I want the longest distance to travel through the body to see if the round would penetrate. The round probably went 12-14 inches through her chest at the angle I shot her and the round left about a .50 caliber hole on the exit wound. Awesome rounds but they are pretty expensive. The way they work and how many times I fire a round each year, I don't mind the extra expense.
Natural selection will take care of the freaks and small deer if you let the other deer get big enough to compete.
That is what I think and am hoping for. If the doe to buck ratio was close to being correct (not the east Texas 6 to 1) and let the bucks grow up, then dominant bucks would be doing the breeding. The way it is now in a lot of places, a year and a half old spike can be breeding half your does. Start killing the does and get the ration close to 1 to 1 and watch the dominant bucks start having to fight for their does. All this talk of inferior bucks breeding makes me wonder when year and a half old deer are being killed right now anyway. I know that some people do a good job of managing the but law was put in place for all of the area, not one particular lease or ranch that might have been managing anyway. Also, anyone that doesn't like the restrictions can start the MLD program and now have to worry about that restrictions and can hunt up to two months longer.
My 9 yr old killed his first deer last year it was a 5 point that was aged at 6.5. He would not have been leagal this year cause of the spread rule but we could tell in the stand he was a cull buck...my biggest complaint is we will now be allowing the cull bucks to bread our doe..People want to compare south tx to east tx quess what the truth of the matter is south tx has better minerals in the dirt than east tx, just look at the difference in soil color while driving from here to there. better minerals = bigger deer and racks. Im glad they made an attempt but they need to leave an out like if your caught with a buck with less than a 13 inch spread then he better be at least 5 yrs old if not here is your ticket (fine) that is what leases are doing..
I can't disagree with the argument about less than 13" bucks but with the east Texas habit of killing them at 1.5 years old, how do we know what is breeding with the does anyway. It is not like there is a lot of management going on in east Texas. I know that some leases do some good managing but for everyone that does, there are probably 5 or more that kill everything that moves. Even worse is the leases that still exist that kill every bucks that is foolish enough to peep out from behind a bush but let all of the does walk. I wish they would go by aging the deer and/or a main beam length in addition to the 13" spread. The problem with that is, the hunters that will have a hard time even seeing what it outside the ears in order to get to the magical 13". I think the current new AR's are just the easy way out. I also think that given a chance, these AR will work. Not perfect but it will work.

It must not be any of those. I have never worried about Crisco routing and usually stick with canola oil.

A Couple of South Texas Bucks Shot Last Week
tvc184 replied to jdawg03's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I was once a bowhunter and put an arrow in the lungs of a monster buck that I allowed 30 min.to start following the blood trail and never found him after another day of searching.I now hunt in a thicket w/Benelli 12 ga.3 1/2 in.mag.copper plated 00 buck and they don't go far w/head shot.As for the horn restrictions they suck.Example my biggest buck killed out of Burkeville a few years ago was a 8 point that had a 12''spread.That deer field dressed 145 lbs and was the heaviest taken in yrs.on that lease.Deer around the Nagcodoches area are big bodied sm.rack deer.
I was bowhunting in south Texas this last weekend when a 17 year old from Bridge City shot and killed a 6.5 year old buck that weighed in at just under 200 pounds. The buck would not have made the antler restrictions. The reason they don't have restrictions is because they aren't known for killing 1.5 year old deer or fawns. The AR's aren't perfect but the hunters brought it on themselves. When I was in high school we had no limit in either possession or size for speckled trout either. We would go out to catch and keep over 100 of them 10" long. I never knew that specks got over 14". Now I wouldn't think of keeping a 14" speck even if it was legal. I think it will be the same with the deer if they get more than 2.5 years old. If someone wants to kill everything that moves, get into the MLD program and you can eventually take any deer that you want as long as the quotas are met and you can do it over a 5 month period with guns.
With the heavy logging of hardwood timber the deer are in poor condition as the few acorns are being devoured by the huge population of wild hogs.Rita/Ike took down hundreds of thousands of oak trees to add to the raping of our forests. The sportsmen of Texas are directly responsible somewhat for the health and well being of the deer population w/plots and feeders and thats the truth. The majority are skilled, patient hunters in SETX.It's the wanna be big city hunters that figure they paid for the right to kill anything that moves.Hunter deaths prove that every year.
I think that a vast majority of people that are killing baby deer are native to the se Texas Piney Woods. The people that are killing every deer that they see aren't from the big cities. They are hunting in west and south Texas where the mature deer are. -
DEER IN SOUTHEAST TEXAS 13 INCH OR GREATER SPREAD
tvc184 replied to GET a HIT #24's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Nope. When you made the statement that "3 years and your minds will be changed", I figured that you were thinking that in 3 years the deer would finally be bigger with the new restrictions. I was agreeing with your statement by saying that I believe in it now and won't have to wait. So have I missed your intent?
