Without knowing what was actually happened, there are lots of what ifs. What if there suspect had a weapon or something that looked like a weapon? Anyone has the right of self defense based on a reasonable belief. What if the suspect appeared to be committing a felony (in this case was) and yelled a threat at the officer? I would say that the officer has the right of self defense. A person escaping from a correctional facility can have deadly force used against him if a correctional officer or police officer reasonably believes that deadly force is necessary if the prisoner is about to escape. What if none if that happened and the officer knew that it was not an escape attempt, knew that the person had not yelled threats and did not see what appeared to be a deadly weapon, threatening the officer? In other words, it appeared to be a non-violent felony in progress. At that point, deadly force would not likely be lawful.

I know this can’t be that difficult. Trump to DOGE: Find where money is being wasted. Let’s cut the budget first by knocking out the scams and nonsense. Are you okay with $2M for sex charges in Guatemala? $6M to help Egypt with tourism? Thousands of dollars to make a transgender comic book in Peru? This might be hard to believe, but we cannot go back in time. If they found out during the W Bush presidency $10 was sent to a country to study the sex habits of tree frogs, what can we do now? We are $37T in debt. No one is going to return that money whether wisely or poorly spent. All that we have control over is going forward. If the Democrats want to fund a study to find which past administrations were the most wasteful, even though none of them will ever return to office, let them go for it. If they are looking for a gotcha moment, which is basically their mantra, dig away. So what is DOGE finding that actually should be spent?

Why go back at all? They aren’t looking for a history of wasteful spending. Why would they go back any certain number of administrations? They are looking at stopping the ridiculous spending today. Nothing can be done about past money spent, only keeping it from being spent again. I don’t know if the reports are true but with all the complaining from the Democrat politicians, I haven’t heard a single comment about the DOGE findings. Examples…. $2M for sex charges in Guatemala. $2.5M for Vietnam to buy electric vehicles. $6M to fund tourism in Egypt. $1.5M to fund DEI projects in Serbia. $32T to help Peru to put out a transgender comic book. $20B from the EPA that no one knows where it was spent. Why would anyone want to go back to Bill Clinton or G W Bush and find moneys that were spent decades ago? Do you think someone is going to return the money?

That’s what I was referring to when to when I said it was a bit of a blow up for a shove. In the past we wouldn’t normally even take a report for that with no injuries. Our response would be to go to the city court and file their own charges. It would not even be investigated.

Thanks. If no injuries then it is a Class C misdemeanor like a traffic citation. In a Class C charge, a judge cannot issue a jail sentence and can only assess a fine. That’s a bit of a blow up for a shove. About 98% of the time it would not even be reported. In maybe an interesting side note, Class C assaults in Texas have two offenses. One can be by contact with no injuries but the contact would reasonably be believed would be offensive or provocative. Shoving someone, poking them in the chest with a finger, patting a waitress on the butt as she walks by, etc. The other is a threat like I will kick your butt. The display of a deadly weapon, a threat of death and so on are much more serious charges up to years in prison so don’t confuse them. Again, an assault by threat might be something like, I’m about to come over there and give you a fat lip. None of that is really interesting however but since this is a sports forum….. A sports participant is a player, coach, official, etc. If any person “other than” a sports participant commits a Class C assault against a sports participant, it becomes a Class B misdemeanor and up to 180 days in jail. So if an angry parent shoves but doesn’t injure a ref/coach/player or says something like, I’m about to jump this fence and whip your butt, it is up to 180 days in jail and/or up to a $2,000 fine. This doesn’t apply to the sports participants with each other. So if the players shove each other, the coaches and so on, the police aren’t out there to start arresting them. Leave it on the field. If people in the crowd interfere however, they could be in a good bit more serious trouble, even when there are no injuries.

What does it matter? We have a Secretary of Defense who served several years in the military, rising to the rank of major and served in combat who the Democrats didn’t think was qualified. Of course Leon Panetta served a massive two years in the military with a single promotion to First Lieutenant, was the Secretary of Defense under Obama. Panetta didn’t see any action and I don’t think he ever left the States. We have a Director of National Intelligence who has served for the last 23 years and so far (still serving) has risen to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and also has served in combat. Apparently the Democrats don’t think that her rising to the a rank only two promotions away from a general. As a member of Congress she was in the House Armed Services Committee, Foreign Affairs Committee and the Armed Services Subcommittee on Intelligence. So she has a quarter of a century if service in the military, as a member of Congress has seen classified information on armed services, foreign affairs and military intelligence but the Democrats doesn’t think that qualifies her. So again, what does it matter? He could be the head of thoracic surgery in a teaching hospital and it wouldn’t be enough for the Democrats that don’t like him.

That’s a different but valid topic. Forty years ago if a person called the police because someone had made a threat but had already left, the officer would say if you wish to file charges and can go to the police station to do so yourself. Now BPD instead of dispatching an officer to say go to the police station to fill out your own paperwork, they are allowed to say on the phone, you can go online and fill out your own complaint instead of having to drive to the police station. As far as a misdemeanor entering a vehicle to steal something, an officer will show up and write down a person’s name, DOB, address, phone number, etc., and then list anything that the person says is missing along with serial numbers. Then the officer will have to take time to move the same information from his note pad to an official report form. Now a person can go online and put in the exact same information, probably saving over an hour of police work. The only change is not taking up an officer’s time to do nothing but explain and simply saying the same information in the phone. That is much ado about nothing. A good solution might be to add about 65 more patrol officers which “might” add an additional three officers to the street for each shift. That could have a huge impact on response times. The problem is that the city would need about another $10,000,000 added to the budget. A city size of Beaumont is probably not real keen on adding $10 million to their budget. If you want to discuss high crime and response times in Beaumont and why this new policy might help, that could be an interesting topic. It might be a barometer of a more serious issue but the policy seems like a valid response. Basically no one will notice a difference except maybe the police might get to a scene a minute earlier.

Burglary of Vehicle is a misdemeanor that basically like shoplifting except the DA only has to prove entry into the vehicle with intent to steal (like rummaging through the glove box and console) and not that they actually got something. So if a person called the police and said I went to bed at 10 PM and went outside at 8 AM and somebody had entered my vehicle, I have no clue who it is or when it happened. There is really nothing to follow up on. I haven’t seen where BPD said not to call. If a person calls, like always the dispatcher will ask a series of questions and based on those answers, determine whether to send an officer to speak with the caller in person or to go online. I was talking about the crazy stuff said, not someone asking for clarification. You probably saw some of the comments like we now need to start carrying guns and make our own arrests, what happens when someone gets shot or other such nonsense? A person is sleeping all night and wakes up at 7AM and finds that their child’s bicycle was stolen off of the front porch, what good is carrying a gun around? I suggest that most people will be able to defend themselves and be armed if they wish but for BPD to say we’re not responding to a minor crime when it is an unknown suspect and it happened two or three hours ago has nothing to do with some of the crazy comments.

The “not elected” is smoke and mirrors from the left as they lose their minds. Valerie Jarrett was claimed by many people to be the mastermind behind Obama‘s policies. She is listed as an Obama, “senior advisor”. When was she ever elected or confirmed by the Senate? Rahm Emanuel was Obama’s Chief of Staff. When was he ever elected to that office or confirmed by the Senate? It’s more trick questions. The answer is never. The president has advisors, including the chief of all of his staff. They were never elected by anyone and never confirmed by anyone. All presidents do the same thing. Those senior advisors have access to sensitive information. Now all of a sudden the Democrats are up in arms that Musk is one of the senior advisors. I get that they don’t like him but it is done by every president as part of the way of having his inner circle that he listens to. We can translate thatt o, we lost and we’re angry about it!

Hahaha…. Nice edited opinion piece. In the actual comments Trump said at least twice that it “may have” been contributed to DEI. There was no accusation about anyone on duty. Even the highly edited and redacted video that you posted, the reporter said Trump “suggested” what may have been the cause. He never claimed that DEI was at fault. If you’re going to Google or YouTube search videos, maybe you should take some time to actually find one that states what you claim. I watched another YouTube video, which I have not had time to look into, where a couple of thousand people scored near perfect on the air traffic control aptitude test, but they were rejected because they didn’t fit a required DEI profile. Basically theaccusation is, the FAA is short several thousand air traffic controllers but nearly that many were rejected because they were White males. It might not be true. If it turns out to be true, would you agree that a crisis in a critical safety position should not go unfulfilled because the administration rejected qualified applicants based on race and sex?

👍🏼 ANYTHING the Supreme Court does can be later overturned by the Supreme Court. You could actually make a statement like, “The Supreme Court could overturn their own decision” and paste that at the end of any discussion. The likelihood might be 96% against it but… “they could….”. I would welcome such a ruling. I think the odds are stacked against it. Maybe the 6 conservative justices will change it.

And to make sure of the understanding, if a caller says somebody slapped him on the face, and it left a red mark and a slight scratch and another caller said he has a bloody nose and a blackeye, those are both assaults that could be prosecuted by the district attorney and state law requires a police report. The red mark and scratch might seem minor as compared to the bloody nose and black eye but they both assaults with injuries and require a police report. The difference between minor and not minor is an injury no matter how slightly injury is. If a caller tells the dispatcher, my ex-girlfriend‘s current boyfriend came over and told me to quit shopping at the store where she works or he’s going to beat me up and he left 20 minutes ago. So no injuries and the disturbance and the suspect are gone. Get online and file your own report and probably meet after about a week with the city prosecutor to see if they can issue a warrant or if there’s enough probable cause for an arrest. There is really no need to tie up a police officer to pass on the exact same information.

I don’t work for BPD!!!! 🤣🤣🤣 It’s really not hard and much ado about nothing but it sure has people up in arms. Texas Assault (unlike some other states) is kind of an all inclusive law. What some states call battery, Texas calls an assault. A battery in Texas starts your car or runs your cell phone. Levels of Assault (not Aggravated Assault) in Texas are a threat like I am going to kick your butt. Also an Assault is an offensive contact that the actor reasonably knows will be offensive or provocative but no injury. An example might be patting a waitress on the butt or poking a person’s chest while arguing. These are Class C offenses or the equivalent of a traffic citation. So if a person calls and tells a dispatcher that his neighbor came over and threatened to beat him up but left and didn’t do anything, that is an assault. When I was on patrol we would never take such a report even if dispatched. We would refer them to the front desk of the police station to fill out paperwork to be forwarded to the city prosecutor (City version of the DA). So no injuries and no ongoing disturbance. An Assault with injuries, which includes as little as feeling pain, is a class A Assault for up to a year in jail and it is not included in this new policy. Basically what they are doing now is what I did for 15 years on Patrol but now they’re saying you can call in the report or do it online instead of driving to the police station.
