  1. Yes, their actions seem trivial and like spite. Seriously, what is the purpose for this seemingly great push for his name like he is a savior or left some kind of lasting legacy? Looking at this article, it shows the mismanagement, not following policy and deception by Thomas while he was superintendent although there article was written after he left [Hidden Content]
  2. And don’t think that Biden shutting down millions of acres of oil exploration immediately on taking office and the skyrocketing of gasoline prices was merely a mistake. This has been calculated before he took office. Anyone with a smidgeon of intelligence knows that releasing a few barrels of oil from the strategic reserves would have no effect on prices. That was only an attempt to divert the weak minded into having a talking point on how he is concerned. With the crunch on baby formula, it would be like me saying, the national is saved, I just found two cases in my pantry so the crisis is over!!
  3. The National Park Service (who runs the park) website says it was a gift from the people of France to commemorate the alliance with the USA in the Revolutionary War. The inscription on the tablet is July 4, 1776.
  4. Revisionist history.
  5. If the city council decides to remove it from their cars, that is completely lawful. It is their decision to make. To leave it however is not unconstitutional going by federal court rulings as authorized by Article III of United States Constitution.
  6. The comments on one Facebook forum are comical from both sides. I like on occasion like to throw barbs (typically easy to back up) at certain comments. I pointed out that In God We Trust is the national motto. One more on pointed out that there is no such thing as a national motto. When I cited the exact law, he changed the argument like he never said it. Then it was (it is hard to understand this rational) The law was only enacted in 1956 so it should not count. Huh? Obamacare is less than 15 years old so I shouldn’t have to go by that disastrous healthcare bill because it is too new?
  7. Would they call such an attempt on a constitutional branch of government….. an INSURRECTION??? Or is that only given to conservative protesters?
  8. So because you know some truly idiotic racists it should change every one else’s opinion or make them invalid?
  9. Haven, KS city council voted about three weeks ago to remove In God We Trust from their patrol vehicles. It was a 5-0 vote. Apparently after a huge public outcry, a special meeting of the city Council voted 3-2 to allow the national motto on the patrol cars. [Hidden Content]
  10. DeSantis might certainly be a player in the coming months.
  11. Is it complaining or pointing out absurdity? I see a place like San Francisco and see where homeless are living in front of some of the most famous stores and crapping on the sidewalk and turning what should be a showplace city for the world, into a dump. I have never been there and never plan on going there for any reason, not even to catch a connecting flight. I do make comments from time to time about places such as San Francisco but not to complain because I honestly could not care less. It is simply an observation of the stupidity of the situation. BISD can vote to call it the “We Have It- You Don’t Stadium”. I would not complain, I would simply laugh at the continued absurdity. With the ability to name a stadium almost anything, can the BISD board of trustees come up with something other than a person with a questionable reputation? City leader, football legend, national leader, historic event??
  12. I believe I remember a news article saying that he was the highest paid public official in Texas and not just the highest paid superintendent.
  13. Also, therein lies part of the problem, the history of the west African slave trade. The Africans were sold by other Africans. The Europeans had the relatively new technology to sail across the world. That opened to trade routes all over the world in the Columbian era. That ability is what brought tomatoes and corn to the world from the Americas and horses to the Americas from Europe and possibly Asia. (Which is why cultural appropriation today is such a silly argument) At that time, what did sub Sahara Africans have to sell or trade? Hmmm… other Africans perhaps? Basically Africans were captured by other Africans and sold as a product. Blacks in Africa captured other Blacks and held them for slaves themselves and started selling them when there was found to be a profit in them. So how much history in this country today is taught that African slaves in the Americas were sold by other Africans basically like cattle? Without those Africans capturing and selling their own race of people, there would be virtually no history of slaves in America. Who is more responsible, the buyer or the seller? Does the author take that into consideration or just celebrating July 4? So does everyone look at good and bad history or is that only relegated to White Europeans….. who don’t deny or make excuses for the horrible practice of slavery? I have read of holocaust deniers. I have never heard of American slave deniers.
  14. Now you are spinning. It was not said nor implied. In fact that would have made sense. While looking at history, let’s look at both sides. But who doesn’t own history or look at both sides? Who denies slavery was wrong or didn’t happen? I remember in 7th grade history learning (it was a test question) on who wrote Uncle Tom’s Cabin and the part it had on the anti-slavery movement… and that was so in the late 1960s. The author said (with a rhetorical question) that Whites should feel guilty. That is the nonsensical part and what makes it comical.
  15. it is interesting that the author uses convoluted logic as an explanation. Logic according to the author: You didn’t fight in Revolutionary War but celebrate July 4th, it is the same as owning slaves.
  16. Explode heads? I think it’s comical.
  17. He was the superintendent for a few years and there was some corruption, mismanagement of the budget and I believe criminal prosecutions (the state came in and took over for several years) under his watch however he got out before it started going to court. It kind of reminds me of that hit song from the Steve Miller Band, Take The Money and Run. It has been pointed out in this and other forums, he was never accused and I have not even heard accusations against him personally. A lot of it certainly happened during his tenure however.
  18. Nobody likes the “good ol’ boy” system until he’s a “good ol’ boy”.
  19. Worse, was the only person to bring us party.
  20. You’ve got to be kidding, right? Maybe sarcasm. I have not defended the Republicans on this particular topic and both sides are just as guilty as you mentioned. YOU HOWEVER… said in reference to prosecuting, “Republicans” would never cut the own throats. Let’s see, the guy that interjects party affiliation, complains when……. someone mentions party affiliation. You only have to go back a couple of posts when UT Alum talked about prosecuting the employers and my answer was “without a doubt”. I never mentioned a party because they are both equally guilty. Of course, you can ignore the obvious.
  21. Republicans? And just how many companies and company CEOs/presidents were prosecuted under 8 years of Obama and now well into the term of Biden? I am not going to hold on my breath while I wait for that list…..
  22. Without a doubt. Hurry would be more like instantly. The law says so but…….
  23. This is going back many years but before it became more popular, I am fairly certain that Nederland was in 4A but competed in 5A soccer. That was back before they had 6A.
  24. And when they return it is a felony, I believe with up to two years in prison. That is current law on the books. How many do you have to sentence to prison before it is not worthwhile to cross the border? I always hear things like, well you can’t catch them all. Absolutely not. But when there is no incentive not to cross, why not make the attempt? If you cross the border and the law is enforced and there is a 50-50 likelihood that you will be stopped at some time and put in jail for at least six months and then be deported, if you return it will change to two years, how likely are you to try to do it again? How many people are going to come over knowing the odds? The odds now are so low and with no effort to enforce the law except at the border itself, it is almost comical. It is like putting out information such as, everyone knows it is against the law to steal from a store however the state of Texas is going to institute a new policy of never enforcing that law. If you get caught, you will only have to put the items back on the shelf and leave the store for that day. If you get away with it, you get to keep all of the items. Gee…. all stores are going bankrupt. But back to the original supposition, people are not crossing the border to work menial jobs at minimum wage or less in slave like labor that other people will not take. Notwithstanding, there are people being held as slaves or essentially so and even in this area. I have been on a raid where a two-story home was divided up into about 32 apartments. Those apartments or walls put up to make rooms were about 8‘ x 8‘ or less. The master bedroom had four apartments inside of it. A large living room might had six or eight apartments. People were being brought over illegally, possibly by ship, possibly kidnapped and being held. The one I was on had the house rules written in about eight different languages. I am fairly certain that these people being held while working off their pay to be free at probably five dollars an hour working in restaurants. Then they were charged room and board so basically what they made went right back to the owners. Those weren’t the people however in most cases crossing the border, in my opinion.
