  1. I hate to bring sad tidings but Reba is gone.
  2. The average salary in the NFL is 2.1 million dollars per year and you only work for a half of the year yet the Blacks say there is inequality in the NFL, well the rest of us should be so lucky to have that problem. I am a proud US Navy veteran and just think about this, if every man and woman who ever served this country had decided to take a knee instead of serving then all this BS would be moot, there would not be a USA or probably no other free countries on earth, all I can say is goodbye football I can live with out you.
  3. I went the scrimmage and there was a pretty good amount of Nederland folks that showed up, the scrimmage itself looks pretty much what I've seen in years past, the kids will be moved around until the coaches get the right fit. The defense looking pretty good at times and the offense had bright spots at times, we played three different QB's and probably will play the number one QB more against Crosby. The freshmen and JV played pretty well also. Can't wait till Thursday.
  4. Raideroldtimer is pretty much on target, I remember years ago when youth soccer started up (wasn't in High School yet) it really bit into Little League Baseball, now that it is in HS especially in the spring Baseball, Soccer, Basketball, Track, Golf, now fishing, yep specialization is kicking in.
  5. Too late Soulja1 secret spring game has already come and gone
  6. The overwhelming majority of High School Athletes will never play competitive sports again once they graduate, so what motivates them to excel at their respective schools? I think it is the school itself and hometown pride, teachers, fans, fellow students, what greater feeling to have scored the winning touchdown Friday night and then walk down the school halls on Monday high five'n, being at pep rallies, hearing fight songs, the list goes on and on. I don't think you can get that at home, being at school is where all the action is, want to play then come to school.
  7. If every student home schooled there wouldn't be a school to play sports, band, cheerleader etc
  8. At this point I can't understand why all the negatives from a few of you, the decision has been made Monte Barrow is the HC/AD of the Nederland Bulldogs, I just don't see how all this can be helpful to anyone. It seems to be a trend now days if your side does not win then you just trash the winner....sad
  9. I agree with James (and no ones blaming the kids). For the past 23 years our coaches have given the kids the training and inspiration to succeed...Neumann created a culture for winning, the kids bought into it and still do, Monte and all his staff believe it too. As James said we may go through some lean years, depending on the talent level only makes sense. But through the last 23 years sometimes I thought we might slip down some, that's when I got surprised by our great Bulldog teams and had great years....Right now I can't wait for the new season (era) I'm buying into it as all Bulldog fans should.
  10. Well if someone expressed interest but did not officially apply for the job then It sounds like this person doesn't follow up on his business and I wouldn't want him coaching my kid. JMO
  11. Lloyd Wasserman, Bobby August were not home town boys and they stunk the place up pretty good. All I'm saying is picking a new coach is not an exact science, and you sure can't get any guarantees that it'll be good. When we hired Lloyd Wasserman he only had a couple of winning seasons, and those couple of seasons had Roosevelt Leaks in the backfield for him, heck one of the walking dead could coach a winning season with him on their team. LOL.
  12. There was no evidence Steve could do what Ronnie Thompson did at TJ, but Thompson was not able to recreate what he did at TJ again either. There was also no evidence Larry Neumann could do what he did, but Steve Derouen was the offensive coordinator under Neumann for a number of years and he did great, but some think that home cooking is like poison, some need to get off the negativity and give the new coach a chance, heck we have not even had our secret spring game yet.
  13. Sounds to me you got no answer, just name calling, but I think you do get it.
  14. Hey there are a ton of fight songs out there too...might want to opt for a new one, because old tradition might not be what the new generation wants..(just saying)
  15. The Tradition part of Honor, Pride and Tradition, it seems to me the color scheme of Purple and White is Tradition, and somehow gray became the dominant color
  16. No one on this board has ever implied that Brian English would destroy the football program, the point made was it is the biggest game in town and the AD tag on the HC position is a way to offer more money to a football coach, if not now down the road after he has proven himself (as they did Larry Neumann) or if the HC does not work out you would not have this tool to bring in the best possible applicant, because some just would not be interested in coaching football here if the AD was not included. Brian is young and should he be picked for the AD, and the football program were to go south it probably would stay south for a long time. Anyway we will know soon enough
  17. I think they did it at Ozen some years back when their basketball team won state, but there is not anyone doing it in this part of Texas that I know of, and I don't think any of them would even consider it....this is Texas
  18. Well I'm gonna say this one more time, there are two things that can mess up a football program, 1. Jerry Jones, 2. School Boards
  19. I thought when the job was posted it said a masters degree was needed or able to acquire one in 2-3 years...
  20. Basketball does not draw between 10 to 15000 fans, does not get the community fired up like football does, does not generate the revenue that football does, does not have a 200 piece marching band, westernaires, multiple concession stands, cheerleaders etc to compare the two is like comparing apples to oranges.....go to Indiana then you have a Basketball AD.
