1. I'm not from either school.  I just looked at the all the picks and both teams actions were bad.
If there was "trash talking" from both teams then they were both at fault.
And when is it "OK" to start a fight or go ahead and retaliate??? did they hurt your feelings by what they said??? did it cause serious harm to your child by words.... So according to you then it is "OK" if they do a little trash talking after the game to fight... whatever...
How about teach your child to be a man and walk away... or don't trash talk back with another team and talk with your pads... Or if you get into a fight there are consequences.
Quit making excuses for kids... and teach them right from wrong..
  2. very sad indeed.  It is funny how people are going to start blaming the police...  Look at the pictures... It looks to me like the only one in between the players are cops.. trying to stop it... the coaches are behind the players in every pick... I'm not saying they should have used pepper spray, which did stop the fight, but when kids are swinging helmets maybe that is the way to make them stop.

Aaronjam75 you are correct about crosby's potential but are not correct about the soph class. The soph class is loaded! Most of the 1 loss district JV starters was sophomores. Varsity had only 5 sophomores on varsity because over 30 seniors on varsity. The better soph players quit? That's not true either! There was only 3 from the freshman team that did not play this year and 1 will be back after the 1st semester. That's 1 of flannigans downfalls, some kids go thru problems for whatever reason and Flannigan held it against them and wouldn't give them a second chance. I think we all are ready to see who the next coach will be and which of the other Crosby coaches are staying or leaving. I know a few should go on the definsive side!
What?? Flanigan never turned down a kid or MADE THE KID QUIT!!... He always made it the kids choice... He felt if the kid let down his team, or himself by quitting, they had to prove to the their team that they really wanted to be there.  They would have to run track and commit to a certain # of days to summer workout... IT WAS ALWAYS THE KIDS CHOICE!!
EX. Jacasey Evens... did not play his JR year and wanted to play his Sr. year..... Flanigan said run track and make your summer days and earn your way back on the team.. which he did and did very well his Sr. year and went to a school in CAL and played.
EX. A Soph quit at the end of football last year that had a good shot at starting this year. said he wanted to go and train for MMA.  He asked to come back at the end last year and Flanigan said the same thing to him.  Run track and make your summer workout days.. which the kid did neither.. He showed up for first day of practice and even if the kid would have started he said "NO, You did not do any of the things I asked you to do. If you want to play next year, get into off season and work your rear off."

If Flanigan had any "Problems" as you say is he made the kids accountable for their actions.  He tries to teach them life lessons and is more concerned about making the kids a better person in life.

Barrett station parents only see he did not let him play. They do not think a coach should teach there kids how to be a man.  They see him as he just teaches football....

This whole thing is really sad!!! Really Flanigan is to good for this community..

I live in the crosby/newport area and here is what im hearing:  Gage, Haynes, D. Colbert, 2 from Flanigans staff, North Shore DC, Freemon, Mesquite OC, anybody here anything else/

    What will they do?
Crosby does not have enough money to get Gage.
yea.. I don't see Gage coming... he is doing well in BH and It would be a big pay cut... Is the Freemon you are talking about Jonny Freemon, former Crosby RB, that is already on Crosby staff?

are you guys really having a serious conversation about kids transferring for athletic purposes only...isn't that illegal?
It's only illegal if coaches influence a athlete to move to a different school... the kids parents can weigh options all day long and move to a better fit for an athlete not illegal. correct me if i am wrong someone.
You're wrong.  If an athlete is found to have changed district for athletic purposes, whether they were recruited or not, they must sit out one year from the time that they transferred.
Well you have to prove that... And it is hard if the parent moves within the district.

Crosby sucks now just like they allways have. If them twin's want a chance at football...Dayton is there best shot.
i really think that might happen... They would be a Bronco...Or if Flanigan gets the Humble job they will go with him... There dad moved those kids to Crosby for football.  He loves what Flanigan was doing... Now he is gone... I could see them moving... This whole thing sucks...
Anyone in Crosby want to run for the school board??? Do it now... you have a good chance of winning!! Just when you get there vote our spineless Sup out...  Things have hit the fan sence he came here....
I could tell you some of his agenda's.... and that would make you even more sick to your stomach...

He resigned after the ultimatum he was given. He was given the choice that he could stay the AD and give up coaching or coach this year and resign. For the kids at Crosbys sake I hope they find another good coach to replace him and hopefully a coach that implements discipline because Crosby really lacked it over the past few years! Just look how some of the kids acted after a clearly more disciplined Vidor team beat the pretty bad and hope the new coach teaches them to put the TEAM 1st because that has been very clear that it was all about individuals. Just goes to show what a few bad apples will do.
apples don't fall far from the tree... It is hard to change the way kids think.... Don't you think Flanigan was doing that???  It is hard to change a mentality...  It has to start at the lower levels...

Will people quit talking like crosby is some talent mill. How many kids have gone d1 from crosby the last four years it like a handfull. They get beat because they think they are more talented than they are. Face it crosby you were a 6-5 team thats it. I actually think your coach did a good job considering what he has.
about as much as Dayton....3-4 a year go and play at the next level...
there was only one team that I thought had more talent... Dawson.. we had the talent to beat every team this year except them I think.....

    Dear Cougar14,

You sir, disgust me!  The only stomach churning going on is to read that someone, who I suspect has never coached anything other than perhaps pee wee flag football, would have to audacity to say that Vidor's team is made up of nobody's that wouldn't even start in Crosby.  Well, our boys wouldn't WANT to!  These boys have played through pain, both physical and emotional this year and have remained unwavered in their quest to go as far as they possible can towards state.  They play with their heart and carry the memory of their fallen brother on that field every week.  These kids are fine young men and Crosby would be lucky to have them grace their field.  As far as the coaching staff in Vidor, they are second to NONE.  These men spent much of their time away from their families to not only coach this team, but to mentor them and to be role models of what a man truly is.  Vidor won that game against Crosby because they fought their way to a win....Crosby came up short.  It's unfortunate to me that people in Crosby don't understand that although it is the coach's responsibility to prepare these boys to play the game, they are not the ones on the field.  The team has to have the will to win and play with that determination.
All I was saying Ms. Baseballwife is that vidor runs a simplified scheme with inferior athletes. For example, I belive they beat ozen this year. Ozen has 5 kids that will play d1 football, which I would describe as talent. Crosby has similiar numbers. The difference is how the kids are prepared. I played d1 college football after rushing for 1000+ with jimmy dickey as the head coach. Lamar mitchell and I were the first team all district backs in 2000. I had 4 other guys in my class that played d1. We went 1-9 and only lost one game (#6 forest brook) by more than 4 points. I would call that squandered talent. Y'all have been to the playoffs 5 times in 40 years, that's a talent problem. Vidor has a couple kids that might be able to walk on somewhere which is fine for a program of that stature. I guess if I offended you I will pay reparations by saying katy doesn't have much talent either but wins state championships. I know your going to say Andy Dalton which is fine, that's one guy off several state championship teams. At the end of the year look at the offers katy players have versus a team like north shore who had to beat channelview to get into the playoffs. They have over 10 d1 kids on the varsity, katy has 3-4 but steamrolls north shore as of late. Tim cornett is the starting running back at unlv. He backed up tracy woods at north shore, as in didn't start in high school but started as a true freshman at a major d1. Katy could claim nothing of the sort but would beat the shore 8 out of 10 times. Only difference, gary joseph.
One thing you left out....Those teams like Katy play team 1st football and buy into the program...D1 talent is a great thing to have on a football team but,if those players are only worried about getting that D1 ride they might end up on the wrong end of the scoreboard...Football is the ultimate team sport IMO..Very seldom IMO does the most talented team when state championships. Its the ones that are the most unselfish.
I think someone has hit the nail on the head... this is why Crosby has trouble getting deep into playoffs... A big part of one side of the community is this way... "I play WR... why should I have to block?" "He got his TD, when will I get mine."  "Im a SR.  I should play over a underclassman even if he is better than me".  Some kids just don't understand the meaning of TEAM.  Im sure Flanigan preaches it, other wise he would not be successful. but some just dont get it!!  Its a catch 22.  The talent is needed, but becomes a cancer stick when they don't get their way.

    Just got this email

      Hey Amanda,

I have been told by a legit source that he is no longer the coach. I am still awaiting the official word and reason from the district. It should come across here shortly. So stay tuned.....
and you might be waitting for the "OFFICIAL" reason.  Takes a while to make up something.... Facts are always easy to quote!!!!!!!!
WHAT!
another words there is no reason why they should let him go.. I bet there is nothing in his write up file... can't be because of record or playoff apperences..  you can't put "because you have no backing on the board".
The fact is they will have to make up a reason....  they can't just fire you for no reason... there would be a major law suit in effect if so...
Actually, you can be fired for no reason.  Texas is a right to work state.  You can be fired or quit at any time.
I have to disagree.. You have to have a reason to fire a full time employee after they have been employed for at least 90 days.
No, you do not.  Trust me.  That employee was me.  I got unemployment easily, but was told by numerous lawyers that there was no case because in Texas you can be fired for any reason or no reason at all and it is fine as long as there has been no discrimination (racial, disability, gender, etc).
I dont know about that..... were you in a teaching field when this happened??  there are insurences right now that protect teachers if they want to pay for them...

Some of cougar14's reasons may be true but nothing from this season cost him his job! He accepted his resignation letter in June! Which means he played the season knowing it was his last. In my opinion says what kind of man he really is! He still gave it 100% and never let on that this was it. I'm sure he will find another great community to coach in. It's just to bad Crosby let him go.
Ha there it is.. ask him/her
The statement just confuses me more. Is "he" Coach Flannigan? If so, you do not accept a resignation letter. You submit or tender a resignation.
Yes he is Coach Flannigan. he submit a letter of resignation due to the school boards request..... another words the board said "We will let you coach football/AD this year if you submit a resgnation now and it will go infront of  end of the football season... if you do not submit then your contract for AD only and you will not coach football"

I understand the seemingly sudden resignation of Coach Flannigan may shock some. What's even more shocking is the ineptitude with which he and his staff meander through the season and try to mitigate ridiculous losses with a playoff run that lasts a couple of weeks. There's no hidden story or failure to play someone's child behind his dismissal. It's the 33-32 loss to baytown lee after being up 10 points late in the fourth, the continous shortcomings with heated rival dayton who often has less talent but superior coaching, and the most stomach churning which is losing to vidor who runs a pop warner offense with players who wouldn't even start at crosby. I think what sums it up is the 49-7 2009 home playoff loss to dayton in which the post-game hand shake heard jerry stewart tell kevin flannigan, "If I had your team I would win it all." You have to remember, Haynes did more with less. It's about winning over here, and not just winning district games. There should be a conserted effort to win them all, and undoubtedly the school board feels the same way most of us do. Overall flannigan is a good person and decent leader of young men. . . . He's just not the coach for crosby.
Wow!!!! The truth did come out.  Vidor puts a spanking on Crosby and due to biases in the community, the head coach gets fired!!!  That is incredible!!!  I don't think I will ever stop on my HWY 90 trips to Houston and spend a dime in Crosby again in my life!
Ok this thread is getting out of hand.... It was posted that Flanigan was asked to resign back in June after this season.. So IF this is TRUTH, unless you are God, There was no way of knowing Crosby would be playing Vidor  in the 1st round of playoffs. FACTS get twisted and turned around. Until the media releases some sort of TRUTH to the whole thing it's all rumor. *steps down off soap box*
why and who would have asked him to step down in June?  If so im curious as the reason and explaination why?
The cowardly board asked I’m sure..Why?? IDK.. they do a bunch of dumb decisions.. and yes.. I was told that he was asked in June... also was told he tried to retract it on monday before it went to the board... What a rough year for Flanigan.. Imagine having to get kids to perform KNOWING that you may not be there next year...
  17. It has nothing to do with "W" and "L"... can you name another coach that has taken Crosby to the playoffs 7 out of 8 years of service??? no you can't...

All this has to do with 2 of the 7 board members dogging Coach Flanigan.. these 2 happen to be in Barrett Station and have persuaded the other members to jump on the band wagon to make bad decisions.... Like cancelling the non-district games with Vidor...

There was over 200 people that showed up to try and talk some sense to the board...there was a line out the door... some from as far as College Station and Austin... and some former players that did not see eye to eye with Flanigan while they played, still backing there Coach to stay...
What the board does now will determine their fate at the next board election I am sure...

I wish someone would take this thread off the board and bury it in the backyard, deep where it never comes up again.
Exactly. This has no bearing on this game. Vidor needs to focus on beating the Crosby football team and not worry about Crosby's local politicians and their ignorance. Good luck Pirates! Me and my purple crew will be there tomorrow night cheering ya'll on.
This is nothing more than a desperation move...Trying to make Vidor lose focus on the main issue at hand, to avoid a beat down They know is coming... ;D ;D...GO Pirates...!!!!!!
desperation move??? I believe it was blackflag who brought it back up which is form vidor.  mabye a desperation for Vidor... trying to get them to fight... and there will be a beat down tonight.. the pirate ship will have to be pulled into port...
    trust me... Crosby will dominate!!
  19. I am wondering why is there 3 topics of Crosby vs Vidor... all of them having Vidor talk a lot of trash.... Oh I know... It has been a long time sense Vidor has made the playoffs.  8 years running for Crosby under Flanigan.... And they all have to get it in now sense they will not have another till next year..
well I just leave you with this sense you have lost 1 or maybe 2 of your running  backs.... GOOD LUCK!!
  20. Yes responsibility has to go somewhere.  I think it is both really.

It is easy to point at coaches but Central had 23 fumbles and lost 15.  I don't think you can find any films that showed coaches puting it on the turf that many times.  It is tough to win when you have turnovers. Also when you lose some big games, heads go down. and stay down.  A coach can use negitive or positive reinforcement but sometimes kids just don't respond.

Still you have to question the coaches.  What were they doing?  How do you go from the top to almost last in one year WITH THE SAME COACHES.. I do think it is a shame that the coaches have not come out publicly and defended there kids..  A coach can not let his kids take the blame..
I think the coaches will work the kids hard in the offseason and Central will be back on top of 20 4A.

The great part about all of this is from the kids... there is no fingerpointing except on themselves.  They could jump on the bandwagon like lots of parents and fans and point at the coach.. We as a society love to point the finger somewhere else... It CANT BE MY FAULT!!
It shows class from the kids.  And I respect them..There are to many districts that win and they want to push the coach out even when they are making playoffs every year... It is a shame......
I said may be the best back... and he might be.

Coldsprings has some good backs, and Kelly has a nice QB/RB.

Cougtalk, only thing I can tell you is Crosby better be ready for four quarters of hard hitting football. We don't quit.

    K off to Education land.

I just don't think the pirate ship has enough sails for this one... need a few more fliers if your gonna beat the cougs in this or the next 2 seasons.

I would not say he is the best RB in the state yet... but he is really good.. I don't know many RB that have gained close to 1500 yards and 13 TD's as a sophmore.  one thing is for certain...you will get your chance to jude for yourself on thrusday night!!

19-4A can go 4-0 if we all play our game and make fewer mistakes.  All 4 19-4A teams are better.
20-4A can go 4-0 if they all score more points than the 19-4A teams they play.

How can you say all 4 19-4A teams are better? That is ridiculous. I wish that PNG was playing BH again so we could send y'all home crying and making excuses for the 3rd straight year.
how can you say 19-4a teams are better?? well lets look at how 19 vs 20 did this year in pre season. 19 won 3-1.
I think it will be the same 3-1.
I think 20 4a is more competive. but when you take the top 4 I believe 19 is better.
I think Crosby beats Vidor.  BH beats Ozen.  Nederland beats GCM.  I think it comes down to Dayton vs PNG on if it will be another split.
Seems like almost every year we argue on who has the best district but it ends up 2-2.
