I guess you’re right… not as much as I originally thought. I’m still thinking they won those championships just a few years. Not 10 plus years ago..

It seems like Tren'davion Dickson was just on the field the other day, sprinting past defenders on his way to the endzone.  Yikes, that was like you said, 10 years ago.  Time flies.

Yes, Dayton went "backwards" without the SR QB and Harrison. Teams routinely go "backwards" when they lose super talented SRs and reload with sophomores. Dayton should go "forward" this year with a group that received a large amount of playing time this past season.

It is fairly common for teams to go "backward" when they have less talent and less experience than the previous year. The new coach is set up for success as the current group took their lumps this past year and will be ready to move "forward" this year.

What's amazing to me is Dayton did not go backwards for 15 years, under Stew.  Stayed on the up for a long time.  Maybe they'll get back to their winning ways before the Grand Parkway overhaul, in the next 5-7 years?

I’m hearing it might be someone from Kirbyville, Newton, or a former coach from beckville. Just a guess on what I was told.

Bickham from Beckville ?  That would be interesting.  Didn't he coach at Jasper years ago?

The problem with Hemphill seems to be a major exit in high school enrollment. Snapshot number went from 273 down to 221. A drop of 52 kids. Hemphill lost their JV team in the middle of the year, had to combine with varsity. Even going to class 2A1 you need a JV program. Hopefully they have a large 8 th grade moving up.
Would like to know the reason for the big drop in high school. Hemphill is a good place to live and the school has money.
Hemphill just lost a good coach.
Wishing my neighbor to the north the best.

    Where did Stark go?

You're right I'm sure the opinion is weighed heavily on of someone who carries a school logo of whom hasn't won more than 5 games in how many years and opted up to face potentially "less competitive" schools. But what do I know ha..

What does a particular school's performance have anything to do with my knowledge of "anything" for that matter ?  For the record, I didn't attend this program, but my child does.  And the reference to the particular coach "who is the all time winning'est coach in the history of SETX football, was from a different school, than the one pictured in my profile.

A lot of the time it's to establish continuity, especially if a coach uses the school for a springboard to a bigger/better job.  If a coach was HC/AD and only stayed 2 years then left, the school would have to run the risk of hiring another coach that might do the same thing plus there's no one to be the boss over the different program HCs (basketball, baseball, etc.).  Having an AD in place keeps the various programs running, especially with finances or if they need something done.

Is there an example of where this has worked out to the benefit of the kids, in relation to success in multiple sports, including football?  I can't think of any programs who have had success at the lower levels with a "head coach" for football?

Maybe personality traits and/or goals with ALL the sports come to play in the interviews

Don't go with personality.  The all time winning'est coach in all of southeast Texas is overwhelmingly hated by his (home) community and the majority of coaching staffs and general public despise him, due to a poor personality.  But, if you care to win 4-5 games a year and everybody's happy, then go with personality. Ha!

  8. The real question is, why is this becoming a thing for smaller schools?  Save the money and hire an AD who can handle, coordinate and facilitate the job duties required, or am I missing something?  It seems the pay for these HC's without the AD title is on the lower side, so wouldn't that in turn reduce the amount of suitable candidates with aspiring dreams of becoming "the guy" to lead a program (where football matters)?

  9. 2018-2019 season, we all could agree that Bill Belichick was among the best of the best in the history of the sport.  Had he retired at the end of the 2019 season, we would have crowned him as possibly the GOAT of coaches, right?

Fast forward to 2023, his Patriots are 4-11 and since Tom Brady retired, he is 29-36 as a Head Coach.

What changed?  Did he change?  Did his coaching philosophy change?  Did his schemes, ability to adjust, ability to create change?

No, he's literally the same coach he's been for nearly 50 years.

You know what did change?  Players.  The one constant in all of sports that changes outcomes of games, seasons and careers, is a player(s).  Tom made Bill.  For a lot of HS coaches, there are communities with enough blood line and culture for "Toms" to make a coach look ELITE, sometimes for decades or better.  And like Forrest Gump says "That's all I have to say about that "
