  1. td gave his opinion way back on something like 4 or 5. Or maybe it was 7 or 8. Definitely somewhere between 3 and 10... :
  2. Mr Ryker, since you know so much, why don't you break down exactly what control over this situation you think Hooks has. Give us some examples of things he can do. I dont know, I am not an AD or am I even going to prented I am. I just know that at every other program I have been involved with the AD is in charge of all althletics and what goes on with athletics inlcuding the volleyball program. If this is not the case at WOS and he is not capable of handling such a situation then let me know and Ill gladly retract my statments. I just assumed he was, thanks. There are 4 different school organizations involved in this situation. Three he has no control over, and as far as I know, no AD has control over the Band, Drill Team or Cheerleaders. The one of the 4 that he can affect is the Volleyball team. Now, you made some pretty bold statements in your post above... Don't cower down now. YOU tell us what he can do with the volleyball program to control this situation. Keep in mind that this is a highschool, not a prison, and all participation is voluntary... voluntary means you have a choice to decide which one you participate in. With that in mind, please proceed...

  4. Ha Ha... Nice!
  5. This is the first thing I thought about while reading all 12 pages of this topic. While I agree with many that it appears to be a commiment issue with these girls and their parents, one in which I personally do no agree with. This should not be used by those involved in this thread to take a shot at Hooks. This is not his choice, not his responsibility and not something that he can force, contrary to what the "nay sayers" want to say. Dan Hooks has no authority over the Band, Drill Team or the Cheerleaders. He cannot tell them that they are not allowed to participate at this game from that perspective, it's not even his business. That being said, he COULD have influence from the standpoint of the Volleyball team. Yes, he could probably even force them to quit or not allow them back, but as said above, you go from one forfeit to 7 and those 3 girls are not just getting screwed out of one game, but the rest of their season. If I were Dan, I would leave it up to the VB coach. She knows what's best for her team better than anyone. The bottom line is that this is a poor decision (in my opinion) on the part of the girls and parents.
  6. Don't forget Kirbyville, too.
  7. I did not know that Cleveland runs the Wing-T. ???
  8. Every team in this district will have trouble stopping OF's offense. If they do improve on defense, they get in.
  9. Yeah, I don't think they question the rule. They know they should have had it.
  10. The MPR issue was a situation where the WOS team did not keep one. Apparently, it had not been requested of them yet this season and the guy who was supposed to keep up with it didn't. The kids that were supposed to pay did, they just didn't keep the sheet. One of the mothers thought her child wasn't in enough and began shouting at the coaches. The other teams coaches over heard this and requested the sheet after the game was over and, of course, WOS didn't have it. However, the mom was incorrect and her son had played his 10 plays. I think the WOS team will be sure to keep up with this sheet from now on.
  11. Just a question here, but how do you make a team "ease up" or better yet, how do you define that? Do you kneel the ball on every offensive play? Do you tell your RB's or QB that, if they see open field, fall down? Being someone who has coached a little, I'm just wondering because there are times that you sub out kids who have never even carried the ball in a game and they even score. Sometimes, it can't be helped. I think it's a bit ridiculous to automatically throw out the "running up the score" card. Sometimes, you just have so much more talent or speed that you either score or risk further embarassment for your opponent by kneeling the ball on first, second or third downs. This happens a lot in the youth leagues where that can be a huge difference in a teams abilities. I'm not trying to stir the pot either, and I also don't have a child in this league, but I do read these pages all of the time and I think some folks are way to quick to throw out that a team "ran up the score". There are rules for a lopsided score Gas, that's the best way to keep it respectable. Noboby expects anybody to kneel, that's a ridiculous comment and you know that. If you want to discuss more, PM me. I will start this by saying that I'm glad everyone has said their piece now and have come to an understanding. After reading everything, it appears some things were taken out of context and some jokes between people were misunderstood. TD and WOS 92 are very good friends of mine and I do get offended when I see accusations made about their team. They have a ton of talent and sometimes you just can't help but score. Now Penny, for you in particular. I realize the kneeling statement was ridiculous, it was intended to be. But, it is no more ridiculous than the incessant accusations of running up the score and even more directly, your insinuation that it is something that the WOS team does on a regular basis. The team we speak of is loaded with talent and speed. They have kids who rarely touch the ball that would start for most teams. Sometimes, it's just going to happen, that doesn't mean the coaches have some sort of malice or are breaking the rules. I assure you that those coaches know, because of the ability of their team and the potential for games to get out of hand, that they are under a microscope and go above and beyond to make sure that all I's are dotted and T's are crossed. That being said
  12. BR has played Bellville and Sealy tough. They will not be a pushover. WOS will have to come ready to play. Hopefully, some things have been worked out over the break.
  13. Good post Freak! Way to go Coach!
  14. I was at this game, I am a Mustang fan and I agree with your post 100%. I also think OF is going to beat the snot out of BC (just had to throw that in there). ;D
  15. The only thing OF needs to do is get better on defense. That offense is awesome and they ran up and down the field on a pretty good Newton team. They were in that game until about midway through the 4th qtr. This district is not going to be the push over it has been. If the Mustangs don't change the trend of the last couple of games, they could be the odd man out. We will see Friday, Brookshire has speed and is very scrappy.

  17. Memorial will never be "outmatched", maybe "outcoached" or "outdisciplined", but year in and year out, I would match their athleticism with anyone.
  18. Geez... Where are all of the "Excuse Sharks" on this thread? I've seen enough excuses already to feed them for the next month on this one, and could, quite possibly, send this thread to 100 pages. :
  19. Sounds like it was an all out war.
  20. WOW! Not another serious injury. HF has been decimated with injuries the last couple of years.
  21. That's funny, I was just thinking the same thing about most of you guys posts. Either emotion, ignorance (not that you are an ignorant person, just about the quality of the smaller schools in the area) or denial.
  22. ... but continues to be brought up by PNG fans... Can't have it both ways.
  23. Okay,I will play devil's advocate here... What do you PN-G fans think your record would be if you played LC-M's schedule?? I say you would be 2-1 AT BEST. And, with Nederland's schedule I say you would be 1-2 AT BEST. Y'all should not be making fun of LC-M's schedule. WO-S is far superior to anyone you have played. Come on, the "schedule" argument was made way back on like saturday or sunday when this thread started. You are right. WO-S is awesome (cough cough). They beat a Ned. team that lost their 3-year starting QB at the beginning of the game. Then they beat up on the Bears, now thats a statement right there. Then they went on to beat a 2A Kirbyville team by 1 in overtime, oh so impressive. And then WO-S got hammered by Jasper, another 3A team, which was unranked at the time. You are right, WO-S is far superior. Just because you have 2 D-1 commits doesn't mean you have "a team." I know that Ozen generally has D-1 athletes on their teams but that doesn't help them in district now does it? So, I say we forget about the schedules and who beat who, get on the field, and bust the snot out of each other. Just a couple of corrections here, 1) Nederland lost Bellows in the 4th qtr NOT the start of the game. 2) Jasper won the game, but in no way did we get "hammered". They were the better team, no doubt, but your using some typical, favorable exaggeration. Now, I will not try to make a comparison with PNG this year, I do think Jake, being a neutral party who has seen both, is. I CAN compare to the past several seasons and our success against common 4A (usually district) opponents and assess that we are, AT LEAST, on a level playing field with PNG and would bet most years were better.
  24. Thursday 9/24/09- 7th Grade: (A) Team WOS- 54 BC- 0 ( Team WOS- 36 BC- 0 8th Grade: (A) Team WOS- 6 BC- 0 ( Team WOS- 18 BC- 0
  25. Gotta love the quote, "We have athletes and Jasper has football players". So true. Hopefully, they will get it turned around. I think they will.
