Does it have to do with his Sno Cone truck?

Yes that's what we have heard. But that will not be public if I know the district. It will be , we are heading in a different direction and we thank him for his service.

I was shocked myself when told about it yesterday.

Bridge City is supposed to make announcement today.

Heard he texted the coaches and confirmed it this am. A lot of back story I'm sure this was just a final straw.  I assume a lot of interim stints for the next year to make sure they hire the right AD. They just hired new OC that was HC at Sulphur. He probably a bit shaken up with news but also probably sees opportunity. I'm sure there is a plan including retired candidates and other ties to the school.

I was there. Officiating was not good. But it wasn't good for both teams. Several non calls went both ways.

Foul count was 14 for each team.

BC went to the FT line 15 times (12/15)

Jasper was 9/17 from FT line

    Other stats

BC was 9/34 from 3 point

Jasper was 3/17 from 3 point

Jasper out rebounded BC 44-29 (25-14 in 2nd half)

BC turned it over 22 times (3 in last minute of the game)

    Jasper had 23 turnovers

I think these two teams would split 5-5 if they played 10 times.

Yes we missed some shooting opportunities especially early in the game on open shots. 2 of the TO in the end were legit bad play by BC. The backcourt call was not. It was tipped by Jasper. Video shows what everyone was yelling about. I would agree with the 5/5 split I hope we get a chance to see one last time in a neutral site.

Did not watch the game.  However, any game I watch in SETX, I go in expecting the officiating to be incompetent at best.

I did not expect incompetence nor do I think that's what they necessarily were the majority of the game. But it was very close to obvious late how they called some questionable calls especially the backcourt call when clearly it was a tipped ball and was loose and free.

    Sounds like a fair fight.

Maybe not as fair fight as you might think. Very good Jasper team but no doubt if you watched the game, BC took some bad breaks from the refs late. Jasper capitalized on those opportunities. BC had many chances to change the outcome with some missed shots early but wow what craziness at the end. I hope we get a chance to play again in a neutral site with neutral chapter refs. Jasper has talent no doubt but anyone that watched that game to say BC not in the conversation just not being honest. This district is just tough it's crazy..

I would like those coach Mitchell fans to explain to me how a team for holding the ball for 6 minutes in 1 quarter while losing by 6-8 is great coaching.

My understanding is he did it in the 2nd period. Halftime was tied 16/16. So if he was down at that time and ended up with a tie, im unsure of the issue? Proba ly not fun as a fan but He probably keeping the score close to give himself a shot. It's classic Mitchell. He knew he was outgunned most likely giving his team a chance with low score.

They have a freshman named Beavers who’s pretty big and talented, and is getting a lot of meaningful minutes.  Started out the year on the freshman or jv and has worked his way into the varsity rotation.  I used to work with his mom so I’ve been keeping up with him.  He’s going to be a player for them over the next three years I believe.

    Is that #15?

I comment on a wide variety of games, game threads, etc.  and the only prediction I’ve made about BC in several weeks was that they would improve upon their first performance against Silsbee.

I don't make predictions we know it's HS basketball. Anything can happen. We cheer for our school and give credit where it's due good and bad. We don't have recruits from outside of our geographic, we don't have any back door deals with chapter officials, we line up and try to compete each week. That's it.

you've got a big a chip on your shoulder.  Everything is criticism or negativity towards BC in your mind, even completely benign posts.  One of the most knowledgeable high school basketball minds in our area gives a perfectly reasonable prediction and you immediately chalk it up to him "not liking BC".  I made a post the other day simply stating that BC had won a must-win game, and somehow that led to a whole rant about my "negative energy" towards BC (please find a single negative post I've made about the Cards this year, btw).  Previously I made a post stating that I liked the Cards' chances against Vidor, and somehow that was "locker room motivation."  This may be hard for you to believe, but apart from just being interested observers, there are very few people on this board outside of BC, Jasper, and Lumberton fans that care at all what happens with BC basketball over the next few weeks.  I've enjoyed following y'all because of the close games, and the district is fun because there are going to be 3 teams fighting for two spots, but if BC makes it to the playoffs or doesn't, most of us people who you're so concerned with won't care a whole lot one way or the other.

For those like you that don't seem to care, you sure keep BC in your post and mouths. Keep predicting as you are, the pressure is on those of you saying they have no chance or won't make it. Time will tell.

I've said all along that I thought LC-M is the 2nd best team in the district and they are starting to play like it. Jasper is hit or miss but I like them at home vs. BC. When I watched the BC/Lumberton game, I came away believing Lumberton was clearly the better team of the two.

I also think BC could possibly lose to Vidor or WO-S or both. The Vidor game was very close the first time and WO-S is due to win a game. But I do think BC wins both of them.

I've seen every team in the district multiple times. I have seen BC at least 4 times this year. I'm just not sold on that team being good enough to get a playoff spot. I believe those wins in first half of district (LC-M, Jasper) were definitely upsets. I think 2nd time around those guys will be more prepared for BC. LC-M certainly was. I expect Jasper to be as well.

Bridge City will have to either beat Jasper on the road or Lumberton at home. I simply don't like their chances in either game.

I believe the cream will rise to the top in this 2nd half of district play. It usually does.

I'm certainly glad we aren't playing these games at Starbucks then. That cream is unhealthy I hear rising up to the top.

Basically, I see the district finishing this way:

    1. Silsbee     12-0

    2. LC-M         8-4

    3. Jasper        7-5

    4. Lumberton  7-5

    5. Bridge City   6-6

LC-M has at Lumberton, home vs. Jasper, at WO-S, home vs. Silsbee. I see them going 3-1 in those games losing only to Silsbee.

Jasper has home vs. Silsbee, at LC-M, home vs. BC, at Vidor. I see them going 2-2, losing to Silsbee and LC-M.

Lumberton has home vs. LC-M, at BC, home vs. Vidor. I see them going 2-1, losing to LC-M.

BC has at Vidor, home vs. Lumberton, at Jasper, home vs. WO-S. I see them going 2-2, losing to Lumberton and Jasper.

Jasper would get the 3rd seed based on their sweep of Lumberton in district.

What's your basis? Besides not liking BC your predictions are based on what? BC beat all of them QST round except Lumberton.

Correct. Our kids have played their butts off. Just to make some of these games close. The same athleticism that almost won on the field in the fall. Sounds like a lil direction would go a long way and in game coaching would make the difference. And to hear it from outsiders with no dog in the fight confirms my suspensions. Just like when aggies said the game was lost on the sideline last fall.

One common denominator for all this is... I've already said too much.

I saw a couple times he was distracted by students behind him then the floor. I tell you, I really like the Davis brothers. I did see a little selfish ball at times by the PG by not kicking the ball out. He wanted the fouls and didn't get but about 35% of the calls. They had open looks outside when they drove in. This team is so good defensively though. #25 got in foul trouble, #11 did too and hurt them in the 4th with his skills. 11 can shoot too. As a freshman he's a good player.

We can't blame coaches or players these days

2 weeks in a row seems like they were in a pretty good situation to come out with 2 DUBS. I was at this game and saw him put the bench in the 3rd and 4th. He allowed 3 point shots within 5 seconds of crossing half court in the 4th. With a lead like that, you protect it and some clock management (play 4 corner spread and delay). He never took a timeout when Japser made a 10 point run. I know basketball and he didn't have a good game. The kids flat out hustle probably more than anyone. They also missed a lot of easy layups and putbacks. That happens in HS ball but a lot of opportunities were left on the floor. WOS couldve had 30 point lead at half. Parents around me were very honest too that they have had similar issues most of the season. Thisnis a young squad and getting better each week. They will upset someone in the hunt this year.
