Angleton will be on the road again this week playing Foster in a Saturday game. This is a familiar matchup since the two schools were in the same district for many years and played each other twice in 2017 in district and in the regional finals. Foster played a close game in the playoffs last year, losing to Katy Jordan 22-14. They are picked to finish 3rd again this year in 20-6A. I watched their game last week against Seven Lakes which they lost 7-0 due to excessive penalties and turnovers. Angleton has already had 11 players carry the ball. according to the stat page. Altogether they have 57 carries for 572 yards. I was glad to see that in the rivalry game with Brazoswood, I didn't see a lot of animosity or personal fouls like in some years between these two teams. Brazoswood in their second year under coach Luster has improved, but then Angleton is better this year too.

I'm not sure what effect this will have, but FB Marshall's game at Dallas Skyline was cancelled.

Friendswood the week before may be better than K Park. They lost last week mainly because of turnovers against a very good team.

Anleton has their big rivalry game with Brazoswood this week. Last year the game sold out 8800 seat Wildcat Stadium and there were people trying to watch from the fences. This after an 8 year absence as Brazoswood in recent years has stopped playing anybody in non-district that still has a pulse. But they did finally agree to it for 2 years and they may go back into hibernation after the walloping they got last year and almost certainly this year. However they are on a 3 game win streak. After losing the 1st 8 games last year they won the last 2 games in a surprisingly easy fashion. They beat Santa Fe last week. However if Angleton goes 6A this time and UIL puts them in the same district they will be forced to play Angleton. Angleton is growing like I never thought was possible and AISD just opened a new elementary and a new jr high in Ashland, a new master planned community at the edge of town whuch will eventually have 2450 homes. The city told residents in 2023 that when there is full build-out on all the new housing units around town that have been promised, it will add an estimated 13.4K to the population of the city which in 2020 had 19.4K.

Did I miss something? Aren't you playing Iowa Colony this week? PLaying them on the road could really be tough. I think they are ranked #5 in state in D2.

Overreaction Saturday Week-1

Who would have thought that Dickinson would easily beat Katy, It's the 1st time ever. -
Despite the score, I did see some evidence that Clear Lake was well coached. An example: In the first half the they had a high snap to the punter which rolled all the way to their 10 yard line. With Wildcats all around him, the punter intentionally kicked the ball out of the back of the end zone which resulted in a safety but almost certainly prevented a Wildcat TD. I was a little surprised after they got hopelessly behind in the 1st half that they didn't agree to a running clock in the second. I think that the reason is that their coach thought they would learn more using the regular clock. They never seemed to give up. They tried everything including a flea flicker and a sqib kick on the kickoff. If I had to pick an MVP for Angleton, it would be WR Kaleb Jammer, who was the leading receiver in non district last year, but missed the entire district season with an injury. It looks like if he can stay healthy, he will be a big factor for Angleton.

Angleton went out to a 58-7 lead at halftime and let backups play in the 2nd half.
-
I don't really expect Angleton to run that t-formation with the full house backfield much if at all this year. They were starting to get away from it in the playoffs and with a big time passer in Duron, I think you will mostly see them in the I formation or the gun.
-
I'm sure the Angleton-LaPorte will be another close one this year. K-Park losing Gilliam was a major loss for them. He shared 1st team all district with Duron. I don't know what they have at QB this year. Doesn't Friendswood always have huge lineman? Angleton has played them a lot over the years and they're only 27 miles apart. Curious to see what Crosby has this year. They lost Yarbrough but may get better play at QB.
-
One thing everbody knows about Crosby is they don't stay down very long and they have one of the best home field advantages around. They should be able to pull this one out.
-
Angleton's defense has gotten some reinforcements over the off season. CB Jordan Hasker comes over from FB Marshall as a sophomore and already has 2 D1 offers. Lathan Newman, another CB, comes down from Shadow Creek where he led their freshman team with 6 int's according to HUDL. He was also the middle school defensive MVP, but they don't say whether that was just for his school or the district. Also Gavin Hebert, Angleton's left OT last year has apparently moved over to DT. He was 2nd team all district as a sophomore at Hightower in 2023 at DT.

It seems ridiculous to me for people to be predicting the results of supposed playoff matchups when we haven't even seen the first game of the regular season.

I'm hearing $15 which would be an increase of $3 from last year. I don't know for sure because I haven't found one yet. Last year I didn't find one until the middle of August at a Walgreens where I had never seen them before. I long for the "good old days" not so long ago when you could find it at multiple outlets in early July. I don't want the subscription because it is too expensive for what you get. -
What a shame for them and the others who lost their lives. Now if somebody can figure out how to prevent this from happening again. This is not the 1st time people have died from Guadalupe River flooding.
-
Having experienced returning starters does sometimes make a difference, but it's not the only factor. Huw good your returning backups and how good your subvarsity was is also important. Smithson Valley won state with the the same number of returning starters as Friendswood has this year (3 on offense and 5 defense). Angleton would love to get another crack at them.
-
I think the Crosby folks have already had their say in a thread "Crosby 2025". I think the key for them is better QB play, an area they were lacking last year to make up for the fact that they're not likely to have another RB as good as Yarbrough. They also lost Windfont on defense who will be hard to replace.
-
That would be Kaleb Jammer, WR who was the leading receiver last year in predistrict, but broke his ankle before district. HIs brother Kasen , a CB, was named defensive newcomer of the year for the district as a soph last year. They have quite an NFL connection; their father Quentin Jammer was a CB in the NFL for 12 years and their uncle, Quandre Diggs was a safety in the NFL 10 years. With the Titans last yeat, he had a lisfrank injury and at 32 may not get another chance to play. While with the Titans, he put in a good word for his cousin, Cam Ward, who they drafted with the 1st pick. Kasen's DC Gilbert Gardner Jr., an Angleton grad, was a LB in the NFL for several years. I hope to see Kasen in the NFL too. The WR I'm waiting to see is Juel Peterson who was 2nd team all-district as a freshman at a Houston 6A, transferred and spent last year on Angleton's JV. He's also a kick returner. As for the defense, they should be ok. Three of the starters received post season honors, DL Brynden Mack was named honorable mention all-state by TSWA, TraeVonne Latimer was 2nd team all district and Kasen Jammer, the defensive newcomer. The new starters have been running this defense since 7th grade so I expect by district play they will be in fine form.

Pfugerville Weiss who you may remember from reg. 3 5AD1 playoffs, is open. HC went to Mesquite Horn.
