  1. Porter is 2-1 with only loss coming at Dayton 35-14. Angleton is 3-0. This will be a battle between 2 dual threat QBs, Angleton's Bryce Duron and Porter's Stone Singletary. Both pass well and can get good chunks on the ground using their speed. Porter is getting good use out of a large RB who transferred from Spring Legacy, Landon Binford, Angleton has a large RB of their own in Wyatt Neyland, who also started last year but they use a lot of other backs. I'm glad to see they are using the TE more in passing, Jackson DeAtley. He's the son of long time Brazoswood head football coach, Dean DeAtley. He's also a good blocker. Angleton's best WR Kaleb Jammer who missed the entire district season last year is back with the team and is averaging 115 yards/game. The Massey matchup tool picks Angleton 42-7.
  2. The week of rest may help after a tough 3 weeks of tough games.
  3. Don't underestimate Friendswood. They have been impressive so far. In their only loss to FB Marshall, they outgained Marshall and the only reason they lost was they had a fumble and a blocked punt returned for TDs. They beat Ball by more points than Manvel did. Their game against Willowridge they were leading 48-7 at the half. Their forte seems to be run defense. They held Marshall to 21 carries for 50 yds (2.4 y/c) and Ball to 49 yds on 22 carries (2.2 y/c). La Porte should win, but it won't be easy.
  4. Mosley has been offered by UT and is at the top of his list, but unless there is a secret commitment, is still uncommited.
  5. La Porte dropping out of the 5AD1 poll after losing to PNG makes no sense.
  6. I was surprised to see looking at the latest poll release from DCTF that La Porte is no longer in the top 10 falling from #5 to out of the poll. This is unusual, especially since they lost to a very good team in PNG. Smithson valley lost a game and they are still #3. Why? I think we often give too much credence to polls. How you are ranked does not affect your chance of success, just your talent and how you execute.
  7. Angleton will try to figure out why they lost 3 fumbles last week at Foster after only having one turnover in their first two games. They still have not had an int. Foster would not have scored otherwise. La Porte will try to determine why in 2 of their games they got off to such a slow start. K park will try to find a defense somewhere. So far, they haven't been seen. They even allowed Clear Lake which doesn't have much offense to score 47 points. Pasadena and Kempner will try to prepare themselves mentally for losing every game to the other six. Crosby needs to keep working as despite the 3 losses, they seem to be headed to the playoffs again. They did better against Dayton than did Porter and much better than K Park did. They also did better against FB Marshall than did Friendswood. Friendswood seems to be rolling with 2 easy wins and will use this week figuring out how to maintain that momentum. But don't count out Porter just yet.
  8. Hasker is already after only 2 games making his presence felt. He had 2 interceptions against Bwood and the area paper had a long story about him Friday. Sophomore CB Hasker making strong first impression for Angleton | Sports | thefacts.com The reason he transferred: his father is the head 8th grade football coach at the new jr. high.
  9. Angleton JV 36, Foster 0
  10. Angleton will be on the road again this week playing Foster in a Saturday game. This is a familiar matchup since the two schools were in the same district for many years and played each other twice in 2017 in district and in the regional finals. Foster played a close game in the playoffs last year, losing to Katy Jordan 22-14. They are picked to finish 3rd again this year in 20-6A. I watched their game last week against Seven Lakes which they lost 7-0 due to excessive penalties and turnovers. Angleton has already had 11 players carry the ball. according to the stat page. Altogether they have 57 carries for 572 yards. I was glad to see that in the rivalry game with Brazoswood, I didn't see a lot of animosity or personal fouls like in some years between these two teams. Brazoswood in their second year under coach Luster has improved, but then Angleton is better this year too.
  11. I'm not sure what effect this will have, but FB Marshall's game at Dallas Skyline was cancelled.
  12. Angleton JV 61 Brazoswood JV 0
  13. Friendswood the week before may be better than K Park. They lost last week mainly because of turnovers against a very good team.
  14. Anleton has their big rivalry game with Brazoswood this week. Last year the game sold out 8800 seat Wildcat Stadium and there were people trying to watch from the fences. This after an 8 year absence as Brazoswood in recent years has stopped playing anybody in non-district that still has a pulse. But they did finally agree to it for 2 years and they may go back into hibernation after the walloping they got last year and almost certainly this year. However they are on a 3 game win streak. After losing the 1st 8 games last year they won the last 2 games in a surprisingly easy fashion. They beat Santa Fe last week. However if Angleton goes 6A this time and UIL puts them in the same district they will be forced to play Angleton. Angleton is growing like I never thought was possible and AISD just opened a new elementary and a new jr high in Ashland, a new master planned community at the edge of town whuch will eventually have 2450 homes. The city told residents in 2023 that when there is full build-out on all the new housing units around town that have been promised, it will add an estimated 13.4K to the population of the city which in 2020 had 19.4K.
  15. Did I miss something? Aren't you playing Iowa Colony this week? PLaying them on the road could really be tough. I think they are ranked #5 in state in D2.
  16. Surprise, surprise!
  17. Who would have thought that Dickinson would easily beat Katy, It's the 1st time ever.
  18. Despite the score, I did see some evidence that Clear Lake was well coached. An example: In the first half the they had a high snap to the punter which rolled all the way to their 10 yard line. With Wildcats all around him, the punter intentionally kicked the ball out of the back of the end zone which resulted in a safety but almost certainly prevented a Wildcat TD. I was a little surprised after they got hopelessly behind in the 1st half that they didn't agree to a running clock in the second. I think that the reason is that their coach thought they would learn more using the regular clock. They never seemed to give up. They tried everything including a flea flicker and a sqib kick on the kickoff. If I had to pick an MVP for Angleton, it would be WR Kaleb Jammer, who was the leading receiver in non district last year, but missed the entire district season with an injury. It looks like if he can stay healthy, he will be a big factor for Angleton.
  19. Angleton went out to a 58-7 lead at halftime and let backups play in the 2nd half.
  20. I don't really expect Angleton to run that t-formation with the full house backfield much if at all this year. They were starting to get away from it in the playoffs and with a big time passer in Duron, I think you will mostly see them in the I formation or the gun.
  21. Good luck to LaPorte in this one as they try to be giant killers.
  22. I'm sure the Angleton-LaPorte will be another close one this year. K-Park losing Gilliam was a major loss for them. He shared 1st team all district with Duron. I don't know what they have at QB this year. Doesn't Friendswood always have huge lineman? Angleton has played them a lot over the years and they're only 27 miles apart. Curious to see what Crosby has this year. They lost Yarbrough but may get better play at QB.
  23. One thing everbody knows about Crosby is they don't stay down very long and they have one of the best home field advantages around. They should be able to pull this one out.
