stock up on local talent instead of letting them get away

stock up on shooters - when you can score anything can happen

    run and gun

    fan interaction

    community interaction

    summer camps for local kids

not sure what all will truly produce attendants with wins but gotta start somewhere

maybe a better incentive for local players - not sure what all the ncaa rules are now - but student has opportunity to stay at home vs if moving off has room and board cost - but if way to waive certain cost for local athletes to make staying home more appealing -

i would rather have a small tax increase for all areas in triangle to offset cost and keep all athletes, band, academic students in our area

James Gulley from Newton was on those last of the good teams.

Tic Price was assistant coach at Chattanooga when we lost to them in NIT. That was an overtime game. I believe Lamar had about a 7 point lead with a minute left and gave it up before going to overtime.

yea they fouling lamar and they couldn’t make a free thrown

someone won 25k with half court shot at half time

I had Mike Olliver as a substitute teacher while in Middle School, we didn't do any work in class those days, all we did was talk ball.

i remember he coached at vincent middle school? i think that was it. i played against him there when they had fund raiser and. had staff vs K106 Mark landis and the nutt hut - i was with K106 and we went to different schools to help raise money

  4. alvin brooks was on team too - he was so quick

Oliver amazing shot but his def needed help - i think he’s in prison in carolina area - so sad

    davis/perkins big men

all the time blends together now and i can’t remember as much as i like too

but had the experience to get to play with/against those guys - great games

abd they let you know how good you ain’t with their talent - lol

    great players and teams

Anthony todd came in and left. talent from area started going else where.

beat  phi slamma jamma in first round nit just one yr after they was in finals but lost to gerald wilkins (dominique brother) chattanooga next round

same yr had joe dumas at mcneese and karl malone at la tech in conference

la tech ranked 4 in nation and victory at home against them

wish we could get local talent to stay and bring lamar back

Yes lean times for Vidor after this unless some players step up, we have a big named Root who might show promise but he is young.

well if he can have the right leadership around him - and put in work ethic - you 100% can be competitive - i absolutely love when a young man dedicated himself and creates opportunity from hard work

i stressed to my son constantly

    1) develop your body:  work out grow muscles - run increase your endurance

    2) institutionalize fundamentals of the game: practice until fundamentals are like breathing - you just do the simple things in game instinctively

    3) develop mind:

study film and the game - understand ppl are creatures of habit learn those tendencies - educate self in class room - and be a persons of humility/respect/teamwork/integrity/compliance/value creation

    4) talent - all you can do here is master first 3 because you have 100% control there and use all that GOD birth you

The kid who was nice at guard last year for OF, did he play this year? He could get on a heater and take over the game, I liked his potential. Don’t remember his name but he put it on Vidor last season and I thought he was a returning player for the Bobcats.

is the Gardenhire kid - i think 24

is he a senior - he’s a good ball player on Vidor

After Harris & Miller based on what I saw when they played PNG I would say:

    Wrinkle of /Elliot lcm / 10 from lumberton /Wardlow WOS/ Ragusa of/ Alantheon LCM.

Disclaimer: I did not see Silsbee play live this year.

    10 lumberton is Harmon

Elliot only jr, harris, miller only soph

Interesting topic, there needs to be 8 per team( maybe 10 on 1st team)  because in all reality that is what a real rotation looks like at most levels. I think 5 would be silly because nobody only plays 5 for a whole game.

So it looks like harris and miller were the two best players, who was next? LCM/OF/WOS/BC/Vidor/& Lumberton all had good players. I saw all these guys when my Indians played them, please don't just give me the most ppg because that is not a true indicator of who was the best.

on end i would say vidor/lum/bc

I thought ofield had 2 of the better guards in the district

OF did have 2 good guards

Lum a good guard, Vidor a good guard, WOS had a good guard

Silsbee and LCM kids good but it like they were forwards - not sure if you list Elliott as guard or not

but some good kids out top

You guys care way too much about all district teams, what does all district even mean besides making a few kids feel good about their season and contribution. You don’t get a scholarship, just your name in the paper. We know the really good players make all area teams or all state. By your criteria Vidor would not have a player get recognition in the past decade. Is that fair, probably not some of those kids could play and carried a heavy burden on overmatched teams. If we’re being honest about taking the best basketball players you could probably take the Silsbee starting 5 and sprinkle in a few from Orange County just about every season.

your right no scholarships, no parade, no nothing. But it just about respect from the coaches from your district. its about recognition for hard work put in.

again like you said, if you dont get the respect or recognition - it impacts nothing moving forward.

not one kid from this district will be playing at the 3rd level - but all of us remember when we once was good - it just a respect thing - coach (suppose to be leaders) should make right choices - when you old and grey sharing stories with grand kids

yes you are right about Vidor too, some great athletes have come from vidor and got little to no respect.

i know i played rugby with guy out of vidor- bo brown - i believe i am much older than him so not sure what recognition he got - i was 35 and i think he was in 20's when we played rugby. hell of an athelete

Observer, give me your mvp, off mvp, Def mvp, newcomer, and five first team guys!

MVP: Harris (no co stuff - make a decision - and at 18.4 pts/gm for entire yr - can still be debated)

Off. MVP: Elliott (27 pts/gm avg)

Def MVP: no good stats to look over to make fair decision but no way Bottely - 1 bk for entire yr/ 15 def rebounds for entire yr - best stat 50 steals for year

Newcomer: i'll take Winn - good leader and ball player

Coach: again pick one: Sigler undefeated unchallenged district champs with all underclassmen

First team and 2nd team should be 5 players each, not counting superlatives. Same amount that one would actually play in a real game.

Coaches are the only ones who nominate and vote on all district.

The vote is down when district ends. All district is strictly for district play, not non or playoffs.

Criteria is up to the coaches.

    i agree on 5 and 5

makes it a little more prestigious to earn

yes playoff should not even be in process - it has nothing to do with district play

  13. 14 minutes ago, AggiesAreWe said:

Shouldn't be 10 players on first team. That's not even including superlatives.

As for when to post, I think it's tacky to do it within 5 minutes of the last team losing.

how many first team do you thing should be?

are coaches only ppl that pick team?

if so how can they pick prior to playoffs ending?

and what is criteria if any?

  14. does it matter when it’s posted?

    integrity is issue

this is a joke on several picks.

Elliot avg 27 pts/gm and not offensive player

3 kids on first team - easy should be second team

2 kids on second team should be 1st team

2 kids on second team should not be

    integrity!

we challenge political leaders on poor decisions on critical issues - challenge their integrity

and who ever picks simple district recognition that means nothing - don’t use integrity and make right nominations

from high school coaches up to potus - rotten to a core with lack of integrity

With your scenario though, Lumberton would have to attempt a shot and then play defense.  They would also have to break a press and probably turn the ball over multiple times resulting in numerous Silsbee points.  IMO, they should have just stalled the same way they did after this fiasco.  Pass and cut and spread the floor.  It seemed to work since they were losing that bad at the half.

i mean reality - teach team how to beat press - 19 turnovers off press is difference in game

    rebounds 29-28 L

    fg% 40-39 L

    3pt% 43-23 L

    ft% 47-59 S

    steals 3-19 S

  16. well even with 35 second shot clock

sounds like the time Lumberton took off clock was around 3 minutes

with shot clock - they can hold ball 35 seconds every trip down and actually eat up more time over period of a game

just 10 opportunities is 5 min 50 sec

so can still slow tempo with actually running a “stall” est clock up style of play
