Coach Willis screwed over the guy he promised the head girls track coaching job to so Coach Cam could get the job. He's a guy who's a lot better suited to run the football recruiting side of things too. That's one of the reasons none of the guys really trust him or want to work for him. Coach Cam is a generic recruiting coordinator that's going to handle all sports. She's more suited to be a college on-campus recruiting coordinator than a "help you get football scholarships out of high school" person. She will very much help the girls' programs as we've never had anybody to help promote them.

Seeing as how his job is the athletic director, not just football coach, it sounds like he’s doing his job and bringing in people for all sports, not just football. That’s the part of all this people forget.  Football get the most attention, the money, the most everything. I understand why but other sports, especially girl’s sports have always taken a backseat.

Local SETX teams- Huffman made it to the state tournament last year (33-14) & Barbers Hill (40-7) is always one of the stronger teams in 5A every year. Manvel (33-11) went 4 rds deep last year, beating B.H. in 3rd rd. Friendswood (34-12) & Fulshear ( 32-10) are always tough teams to beat & making deep playoff runs. The 3A ranks East Bernard (42-7) made it to the state tournament, Central Heights (41-9) made it to the 5th rd. losing to East Bernard.  Orangefield (25-14) &  Diboll (31-11)  made it 2 rds into the playoffs. Not excatly sure what these teams have coming back for '23.

I think Manvel will take a step back this year. They lost their 2 big outsides that they ran 90% of their offense through and their assistant who according to parents I have talked to basically did everything and was their real coach.

Huffman and BH will continue to be strong. They didn’t lose a lot of seniors.

  3. It blows my mind that kids are transferring over a coach. Did anyone ever consider that if everyone stayed in their hometown instead of jumping ship for an easier route, they’d be stacked with talent and be successful? Not to mention the fact that the kids would actually learn something so important in the real world like loyalty, dealing with adversity, etc. Just my 2 cents as a mother of a female athlete who’s dealt with mediocre programs in Crosby.

Sidenote, what’s your thoughts on the new recruiting coordinator?

  4. I have a question. My kid doesn’t play football so I only know the recruiting process for other sports. For my kid, it’s pretty much all on her to contact schools, send videos, build those relationships, and do the work to get recruited. Is it not the same for football? Doesn’t Crosby football have tons of college coaches out every spring to watch the boys not to mention all the press that football gets compared to other sports. What exactly do y’all expect the coaches to do? Just curious.

  5. I’ll just say it. Avery should have gotten blocker of the year. She led in blocks and dominated offensively all year. CJ led the district in digs by a good margin so that makes sense to me.
You know how it is. The coaches had their agendas and who they wanted to get awards. Lots of negotiations had to happen for it to work out like this. If you look at the district stats you can clearly see who should have gotten those awards and who shouldn’t have. Hell, if you watched any of the teams you know who their leaders are and who should have been in the running for them.

Yeah, I was pretty surprised how the major awards and first team awards were distributed for this district.  It definitely looks like there is an agreement to evenly distribute awards, which IMO waters down post season awards.  Not saying there aren't other worthy players, but a few of the major awards and 1st team placements were head-scratchers for me.

Definitely had me confused and my kid got 1st team. Ha! I even messaged the mom of a girl from BH who I thought should have gotten one of the superlatives because I was so shocked she didn’t get it. Lol

I am curious how district picks for volleyball are distributed.  In my past experience, albeit in another district and with football / baseball, district picks were skewed toward the winner; especially if the winner has such a wide margin.  It looks picks were fairly even between the top four teams.  No offense, but that just doesn't make sense to me.

Agreed. I was surprised we got so many. The coaches got together and voted. Of course they fought for their players for certain things. It didn’t turn out the way I thought it would to be honest.

  8. My 2 cents…that game was good for both teams. Nederland gets a confidence boost heading into a tough 1st round game against Friendswood. Frankly, BH probably needed to lose before playoffs. They haven’t really been tested since preseason. Got it over with, know they are beatable, and they will for sure use that as fuel going into a long playoff run. Regardless of the situation/lineups, win win for both teams.

Just being facetious, the district is far from settled.  The Eagles are really good, but they are not invincible; no one is.  They need to have the intensity in district play that they showed during non-district/tournament play.  With each match the pressure builds for BH and the target on them gets bigger.  Continuous focus on BH can be freeing for the other programs.

Everyone wants to beat BH! Always and at every sport! We all know how good they are. They will see everyone’s best each game and they have weaknesses that smart players will use against them.  I think they’ll still get through district unscathed though. Nobody else has that much talent and coaching on one team to knock them off.

I do not think so. A lot of volleyball left to be played. I think it shows a more competitive district this year. I think you are going to see a lot of battles, and maybe even splits. I think that will make for possibly some interesting tie breakers at the end.

Totally agree. Every set in that game was close. Could have gone either way. Also, anyone can win 1 game so anything can happen still.

It seems like Crosby is struggling big time right now.  I think the most exciting matchup in this district will be Sterling v Nederland.  Basically, it appears to be a battle for 2nd place between these two teams (unless Crosby turns it around), because I would be surprised if BH loses even a set in district play.

BH is going to roll through district. Sterling shouldn’t have any problems going 2nd.
I’ve given up hope that we will put the right lineup out there to be successful. We have the talent if they’re played correctly to hang with anyone but it doesn’t seem like she’s ever going to do that or knows how to do that. It’s sad.

Interesting, but I've seen it for years at a couple schools i follow that play favorites over the best players\ lineups that give the team the best chance to win games. How many does Crosby coach carry on Varsity roster?

She has 15 rostered now that she moved up 2 freshman. Only plays 9 just not in the right positions. She did finally unleash Kate at outside instead of middle so that helped a lot.
