BH would not have been undefeated in Sterling's district. Might have finished 2nd at best.

While Sterling, Lee's and GCM's district is undoubtedly more difficult, but BH would have finished 2nd at least.  Manvel is the only team that has advantages, or is even, at multiple positions with BH.

@AshlyKBMTThat is a risky game to play for Nederland, why not wait and see who wins out of Sante Fe vs Friendswood first before making that decision. If Friendswood wins that puts them in a tie for second. I assume Nederland wants Sante Fe but they could easily flip.

Agree.  I imagine that Ned matches up better with Sante Fe than FWood.

I agree, your district is what it is, not too much this year. In pre-district they did get to play Clear Lake, Manvel, Summer Creek and a tough Katy Taylor team.

Their preseason schedule was very weak.  Manvel was a tournament opponent, who appeared to handle them.  Summer Creek is currently 3rd in their district and if the season ended today both CL and Taylor would not be in the playoffs.  The 29-3 record looks good at face value, but when you see that a lot of those wins are against low-level teams, it takes a lot of the luster off.

    Nederland 3-1 over Kingwood Park

    Shadow Creek 3-2 over Crosby

    Dobie 3-1 over Baytown Sterling

Pas. Memorial 3-1 over Baytown Lee

    GCM 3-1 over Aldine Davis

BH 3-0 over Fort Bend Elkins

    Hitchcock 3-1 over Anahuac

Baytown Sterling is a puzzling program.  Quite a bit of talent, but something just seems off or missing.

I did not imply that "all" apartments are Section 8. I mentioned trailer parks, too. Its about the tax base, and I thought I had clearly stated that.

As far as BHISD buying tracts ups, maybe they ARE trying to lessen traffic, not in the roadways but in the hallways of their schools. BH is building on as fast and furious as they can, so do you think they want to be flooded with hundreds and hundreds more students before the new construction is even complete? Not everything is always about football, believe it or not. Sounds like prudent planning, IMO.

In a forum that is dedicated to football...just trying to relate the situation to football.  Anyways, the question is what are the realistic chances of increasing the programs success with out an influx of additional talent?  Not saying the current group isn't talented, but there is a deficiency in top-level talent if your goal is to consistently go beyond the area round.  Maybe the new coach with the correct offensive and defensive game plans/schemes can correctly utilize the current talent to maximize success, but game plan/schemes can only take you so far.  In the end, I'm not on the field, or in the locker room, maybe I'll be surprised.

My take is Barbers Hill wants to remain a community with a high tax base. The average owner in a 300K house pays more into the system than the "public assistance" people in apartments or in trailer parks. Also, the roads are way overburdened with all the growth that has gone on there over the past 25 years. It used to be a bunch of rice fields left and right of I-10, but now new homes are everywhere. Why would they want to add apartments to an already overgrown area? Common sense, not an "ism" agenda some are trying to accuse them of.

The word is that Chambers County zoned those parcels for multi building residential, so they wanted apartments in that location.  If you want to attract people to your area then you better have affordable housing for the people that can't afford a 300k tract home.  Not all apartments are section 8 or low income, so that is a little bit of a mischaracterization.    If you're not willing to make housing affordable, then you can only coach up the current talent base so much.  Also, to think that BHISD bought those parcels to lessen traffic congestion is a little ridiculous.

To 14.2 credit he did label that long post as "Totally unverifiable". It seems to me that the unidentified "football guy" he references apparently has some kind of ax to grind against the BH schools administration, and/or is a staunch Westerberg defender, trying to make excuses for the past 5 years.

In either case, as I said earlier, what's done is done, BH simply needs to move on. The $2 million the Westerbergs raked in can't be un-spent, and TW hire of 5 years ago can't be undone, but BH can make a better choice in the future. BH simply needs to think deeply about the new hire, and don't get bedazzled with a falsely glitzy resume. Hire a hungry, young, up and coming candidate who can maximize the program with the young men at hand. Riordan is definitely worth a look.

I think the root of the issue with football at BH goes beyond the hiring of the next coach.  To be where BH WANTS to be in football, it might be more about the Jimmy's & Joe's than X's & O's (tired saying I know).  They just need a different caliber of athlete in the program to be better than an okay to good team.  The overall top end talent base of the school seems to lend itself to baseball and girls sports.  Just an observation.

Supposedly there are two things that happened that really rubbed TW the wrong way more than the supt.'s arrogance and questioning of his coaching. One was the hair situation that happened at BH. BH had several transfers lined up at the skill positions for the upcoming season and all pulled out after the news. Second, there was supposedly some school meeting where the supt. informed the staff that the district bought some land around I-10 and HWY 99 to keep an apartment complex that would've been zoned to BH from being built. Comment was along the lines of "We don't need that in our district".

The bit about the buying land to avoid having apartments is something that has been going around from multiple people.  Too many disparate sources that said the exact same thing, tend to believe that statement.

If a coach wants to run off a player, he is going to sit her on the bench, put her on JV something to that effect.

If you want to call running an certain offense or a certain defense or the way the man coaches and not changing these to fit a certain individual, running off a player then I guess he chased her off, but I would call that the player and/or the players parents trying to dictate how things are run and the coach not giving into demands.

In all honesty, none of really know what happened unless you are the player, the players parents and coach, maybe. All of us are speculating as to what happened.

Your second paragraph is the speculation that you are referring to at the end of your statement.  You can think that it was the actions a parent/player to get a coach to change his system that was the catalyst of the change, but X's and O's were not the culprit.

    Two thoughts:

    1. Sterling lost some close 5 set matches, where if they had won that 5th set they are in the playoffs. But that is the beauty of volleyball.

    2. Sterling is in a much more competitive volleyball district than they have been accustomed to when they were in 6a. One could argue that 22-5a is one of the toughest districts across the state. If you remember last year FW, SF, TC, GCM, and Crosby won thirty plus games. Now obviously you lose Crosby to 21-5a but you add the likes of Sterling, LP, and Manvel and that is a tough district where every game counts.

Understood about the district they entered this year.  I didn't expect them to compete for 1st or 2nd has FW and Manvel were favorites for those positions. Even 3rd would have been a stretch to beat out a team like Texas City, but I did fully expect them to compete closely for 4th; especially seeing how Santa Fe and La Porte looked compared to last season.  I just thought Sterling returned with too much talent to not make a serious push for a bottom half playoff spot.  The two losses to GCM and subsequent loss to LP were just very surprising to me.

That being said, I think a team like GCM played above their overall talent level (obviously the core three are very good) to win almost all the games they should have (the loss to Lee was nearly derailing) and IMO stealing two from Sterling.  In the end, GCM did what was needed to advance and Sterling did not.

It was a good game but RSS blew it.....I think this pretty much eliminates them from playoff contention.

GCM made almost every play and Kotlarz was huge. First time I've seen her drop the hammer like that.

Happy for GCM.  They are have hardworking core in Herrera, Martinez and Kotlarz.  However, there is no reason RSS should have dropped two games to them this season.  Kotlarz might be the best player in this area, including BH, but RSS had overall more talent to work with than GCM.  I think it just goes to show that, especially in HS sports, coaching and schemes can overcome a deficits in talent and depth.
