    Dear 2020 Gilmer Buckeyes,
This letter is a tradition, started in 2004 and carried on with every State Championship Team since then. Before you head out on this last trip of the season, we want you to know that your Army of Buckeyes are behind you! You are the best of us. You are our sons, our brothers and our PRIDE. No matter what happens Friday, just know that we could not be more proud of you!
We have watched you use your motto to climb your mountain this season.  AWTHEED! All Ready. It is something you have lived week by week, day by day, practice by practice, and rep by rep.  Your willingness to trust it has gotten you through one of the toughest schedules in 4A football, a D1 “BIG SCHOOL” who is also playing this weekend for a State Championship, Pleasant Grove and a District Title… and now to where only 7 teams in 107 years of football in Gilmer have ever been, playing for a State Championship!  WOW!  What a journey.  What an accomplishment!
You have learned to trust the process that got you here.  To trust your coaches, the people around you who truly care about you, and most importantly to trust in each other.  You have seen what can happen when each one of you is willing to be selfless, and to SHOW UP and DO YOUR JOB every rep, every play, every day!  So when you walk into AT&T Stadium Friday morning, TRUST that what got you here is all you need to walk out as champions!
You know your opponent well.  Carthage is Carthage. They are our “Lion” to hunt… and our Goliath to slay. You will find that this will not be the last time in life when you have to find a way to be your best when it counts the most. But remember, when David stepped out to face Goliath, he trusted in what God had done to make him ALL READY for the task. God gave him lions and bears to face that were trying to steal his sheep… and David dealt with them and grew from the experience. Those tests helped him develop his skills with his sling and staff, as he spent countless hours in the field practicing... rep after rep. Sound familiar? Check the names on your Black Flag.  Right there are the names of the “Tests” God has given you to make you ALL READY for THIS! Eagles, Lions, Hawks, Bears… seen them all, beat them all. Tests taken; Tests passed. You are ready. ALL READY.
David also left behind all the things that a “normal warrior” would never be without. He took no armor. He took no sword or shield. He also left his emotions behind, he left all of his fear, his anxiety, and any thoughts that would distract him from his task. He only carried into battle what he knew he really needed; TRUST in God’s preparation, a sling, a staff, and five, smooth stones. Now ask yourself; why 5?
Was David planning to miss a lot?  Do you think he was nervous facing a man 5 times his size, laughing at him and screaming about ripping him apart? I BET HE WAS! But in that moment, David’s TRUST in what got him there was bigger than any other emotions he was feeling. Goliath’s armor, weapons, smack talk and “undefeated swagger” didn’t measure up to David’s TRUST that he was ALL READY.  He put his emotions aside, ignored where he was or who was watching, loaded his sling, locked in and TOOK HIS SHOT!
And all God needed was ONE STONE to change EVERYTHING!
So believe us when we say, GOD has prepared you for this moment in your life! You are bringing an ARMY to this fight and we are right behind you! LET US CARRY YOUR EMOTIONS, so you can be free to FILL THIS GAME WITH INTENSITY! All you have to do is FOCUS YOUR SKILLS and BE THE STONE!
Then we’ll see how big “Goliath’s” really is… big enough to fit on our Black Flag? Then we’ll see how good “Goliath” really is… good enough to BEAT OUR BEST? And we’ll see if “Goliath” can handle a storm of 60 stones for 48 minutes of ALL READY!

    Sincerely,

    Your ARMY of Buckeyes

    We need a 🧀 reaction ==>

Real talk, PAM defense won’t be able to hold Manvel under 40. Hell, they may have to beat Hightower in a shoot out this week, before they even think about Manvel. You sealed y’all fate by making this thread.

I told you this would seal your fate, that 51 yard TD wasnt Gilbeau fault, it was yours, for posting this nonsense. You can wear this L! 🤣🤣

He wasn't the only one.  Just the first one that I noticed.  At least 2 more.  1 was faking an injury.  The trainer would come over and stretch him out and whenever the trainer would walk away, he'd laugh about it.  Another special team player came out after half time and just left his shoulder pads in the locker room.  I did notice a few other seniors that called them out towards the end of the game for quitting.  Something in me tells me where those kids would be going to school if the schools had not merged but I'll leave that alone...

I do admire the coaches for rolling with the kids that still wanted to get out there and try to compete and letting the returning players finish the game out for you.  What the kids have to realize to be like the Manvel's and other teams that consistently have good programs, there is no time off.  Next season starts Monday...

If there are any returners that were among the players who refused to go in the game, they would not be part of my program going forward. TBH,  they wouldn’t  have continued to wear the Jersey on the sideline. Send them straight to the lockeroom, and if their parents were there, send them home. Those type of individuals are what keeps a program from taking another step forward. As a teammate, I don’t even have to say what should happen to them, y’all already know how y’all would handle it. I don’t even have a connection to this team, with the exception of being district mates, but this has been eating at me all night, Bc there are kids and coaches who bust their ass every day during off season, during the season, to get the opportunity to play in a playoff game, and they never reach that goal, and then these kids are scared of a challenge and don’t appreciate the gift, the opportunity that they have earned, and I’m sure they worked hard to get there too, but they will have to live with that the rest of their lives, every time they look in the mirror, or drive by a stadium, or run into old teammates 20 years from now. It will always be with them, and deservedly so. Congrats on a great, historical season United, that community should be proud of y’all! See y’all next year!

    United - 22

    Manvel - 45

Y’all only scored 14 against GCM, y’all find some points laying around somewhere. 🤣 real talk though, I hope y’all pull off the W! It’s supposed to be nasty weather all day Friday and Friday night, could be the equalizer United and GCM need to pull off an upset! Good luck to y’all, as well as the Ganders and Titans. It would be nice to have someone 9-5A rattle off a few wins and make a little run.

Yea, we only had 15 trips in the red zone.  You wouldn’t thought we’d score more...

what was dumbfounding to me, about United’s play calling in the 2nd half, was EVERY time it got to 3rd down, GCM ran the same blitz and sacked the qb almost every time, forcing y’all into an unmanageable 4th down try. The play caller should have called a QB draw or a screen pass and it wold have gone to the house. Yet, not once was either of those plays ran on 3rd down. Mind boggling. Real talk, there is so much speed on that defense it is ridiculous, those kids can flat out get after it

And lack of adjustments by the United staff.  Sickening to watch...

Only if you’re a United fan! 🤣 GCM fans felt that way in the first half, however we have come to learn that this staff time after time have made adjustments on the fly and/or at halftime to counter the opposing team. IMO United lost the game in the 1st half, when they did not distance themselves while the defense was playing lights out. GCMs defense doesn’t get enough credit, but they are pretty salty themselves, and keep GCM in the game until the coaches make offensive adjustments, and then HERE COME THE PATS! they’ve done it all season. A one score loss to PAM, and then just layed an egg against REL, this team was capable of winning a DC. They didn’t know how to win close games, that changed during the RSS game, and they haven’t looked back since. They know that the dude steering the ship will get them where they want to go as long as they keep it afloat. Coach Carter is a real one!! He’s already done special things with this program. The best part about it is, he WANTS to be in Baytown, that’s HIS program, and the kids in that community will be the benefactors.

Tell ya what. GCM will just show up next week and let the chips fall where they may.

The best thing about an opinion is that it is free. So we will take yours on face value.

We can all talk about what, will, should, could, might, probably, happen...at the end of the day, NONE of our thoughts, opinions, suggestions, or predictions, matter whatsoevever. 11 teenage boys will line up against the other 11 teenage boys, and they will determine the outcome. I will die on this hill, with the statement I am about to make. Coach Shannon Carter and his staff at GCM, deserve one helluva “attaboy” for the coaching job they have done with this group. Since back to back losses against PAM/REL, the patriots have won 4 in a row, and have trailed from the beginning in all of them. The halftime adjustments that this staff has made/put together, is second to none. Tonight, United’s defense was magnificent in the first half, the only first down GCM had, was via penalty. In the second half, that same defense/coaching staff  was overwhelmed, outmatched, and flat out whooped, for 24 points in the 3rd qtr alone. Congrats to the Patriots, and good luck to our fellow district mates, representing 9-5A in the Division 1 UIL State Playoffs.

While I agree with my buddy's sentiment.  I chose the more standard method:

    1.   North Shore

    2.  Port Arthur Memorial

    3.  Magnolia

    4.  College Station

    5.  Atascocita

    6.  Crosby

    7.   Nederland

    8.  C.E. King

    9.  Baytown Lee

    10. Goose Creek Memorial

Just curious as to why you have GCM ranked at your 10 spot, and United is unranked, yet in your Bi district matchup projections, you have BU as the 3 seed and GCM as the 4. Suggesting BU will beat GCM Thursday, in what boils down to a seeding game. Using that logic why wouldn’t you have BU ranked ahead of GCM?
