1. Jasper puts together a gutsy 4th quarter - scores touchdowns on 2 straight possessions. The last possession was 6 minutes scoring with 22 seconds left. Congrats Bulldogs!
 2. Pittsburgh now leads 17-10. Jasper falling apart in second half. Pittsburgh got two straight on-side kicks. Pittsburgh has adjusted. Jasper has made no adjustments.
 3. I hadn't been on here in a couple of weeks. I'm shocked to see this thread is at 4 pages - good to see the rivalry is still alive. I think Jasper's defense is better overall than last year. So, I'm interested to see how they match up with Silsbee's offense. I'm thinking this won't be a high scoring game. If it's not, I give the edge to my Bulldogs. However, if it is, I think Silsbee wins. Either way, I'm expecting a close game. And yes Buddy Garrity, you should be giving us a hard time about those Louisiana schools.
 4. Laugh all you want. But, I don't think it's funny. Of course, I hope I'm wrong.
 5. I think LC-M will win and I don't think it'll be close.
 6. If true that Jasper wouldn't play WO-S, then that's pretty pathetic especially given the weak district. No offense to the other teams, but this has to be the weakest district Jasper has played in...ever. The UIL is really taking the competitiveness out of high school games, especially in the lower classifications. Competition sharpens skills and helps players earn scholarships. I fear all the participation trophies will hurt not only the game, but the kids in the long run. Oh well, so not looking forward to Jasper football this season. These things in addition to the coaching losses will hasten the decline.

We were knocked out of the regional finals in the 80's and 90's by Willowridge (remember Thurman Thomas?), WO-S (remember Kevin Smith?, those were some dynamite games and teams), A&M Consolidated, LaMarque and Texas City (we were totally overmatched in the last two). We were knocked out of the semifinals in 2002 (this was our best chance of winning after dropping to 3A with 2 D-1 players on the team - Joseph "Red" Bryant and Jorrie Adams) and 2003 by Burnet. Then, lost in the state game in 2004 to Gilmer by 2 points in a game that most believe we were cheated on the 2-point conversion. We haven't sniffed a regional game since. Man, recounting all those losses is painful. Maybe we'll get some coaching consistency with Coach Barbay and he'll lead us to the promised land.
People don't remember it took his dad 20+ years as head coach at Newton to win his first state championship. Then he went back twice more winning one of those. He was an assistant when Newton won their first championship. Hang on to Darrell. It takes a lot to win a title. Good kids, good coaching, and a certain amount of luck during the run.
I do think we have a good one - we need to be patient and try to keep him. There are lots of teams that are pretty good once you get to the 3rd round. So, I do believe luck definitely comes into play unless you happen to have one of those really special teams that is loaded with talent on all sides of the ball. And, even with great talent, you must have good coaching that knows how to utilize it. Even though we lost our one time in the big game, the journey getting there was still special.
Exactly.
We just can't win the big one.

Coldspring/Jasper Scrimmage Jasper  4 TD's Coldspring  0 TD's
Wonder if CS was holding back a little. Not taking anything away from Jasper. They should have a great season. Best of luck Jasper.
I don't think the scrimmage score means all that much without knowing which players played for how long and what plays were run. Jasper has been gangbusters in scrimmages only to win 2 games when the real season started and looked pathetic in scrimmages to go on to the state semi-final game. Coldspring is well-coached with some good athletes. I wouldn't worry too much.
 11. For Jasper, it would definitely have included Silsbee. I've heard different reasons from each side about who dropped who. Regardless of whose decision it was, what a dumb idea to end such a long-standing rivalry.
 12.
Man i wish Silsbee could line up and play Jasper in the playoffs.  8)
The longtime rivalry is definitely missed. Hopefully it will be rekindled next year.
 13. High School coaching salaries ...should they make more?  No, there's way too much emphasis as it is on sports in grade school. Imagine what we'd be if only half the same emphasis and pressure were put on reading, writing, math and science. This is not college where if they win, it could mean millions to their schools. How about the players? I have never said this on a message board before, but dumb question. See answer above. These are children and sports should ALWAYS be secondary to education because the chances that any of them will play professionally are way too slim.
 14.
Yes 2 teams from each district make the playoffs but there is only 16 districts, so that is 64 teams in two divisions.  Currently there is 3 teams from each district and there is 32 districts, so that is 96 teams in the playoffs.  There will actually be less teams in the playoffs.
That sounds good! I always thought it would be good to limit it to 2 teams from each district. But, maybe have some wild card spots. Now, I never thought through it enough on how those wild card spots would be determined.
 15.
Jasper NEEDS NEW STADIUM LIKE FOREVER AGO!!!! Maybe some deep runs in the playoffs will help.
The great runs we had between 2001 - 2005 meant nothing. When they had the chance and construction prices were on the decline, it was voted down. Construction prices are going back up and I don't see sentiment changing. I just hope no one gets hurt.
 16.

A bulldozer
;D. What stadium is that?
Jasper. Seriously, it has to be the worst stadium in the area.
 17.
I foresee our local 3A (4A) districts to be something like this: Division I Bridge City Silsbee WO-S Huffman Splendora Cleveland Jasper Division II Hamshire-Fannett Hardin-Jefferson Orangefield Liberty Tarkington Coldspring Shepherd I expect Buna to drop down a classification
I like being in a district with these teams more than where we have been last 2 realignments.
 18. Jasper Bulldog alumni Michael McFarland is the superintendent at Lancaster ISD. I was pulling for them. The team played undisciplined tonight - few teams can win a championship like that.
 19. I thought WO-S would be the only team that would challenge Navasota. I don't know much about Bellville. With all due respect to the other teams playing, I think the championship is Navasota's to lose. Navasota will have to be overconfident and another team will have to have a perfect game in order to beat them.
 20. Coach Barbay will have a 2nd year at Jasper under his belt, the qb will be a senior, and we get some other key personnel back. My expectations are winning district (it's time to beat Carthage) and getting to the regional finals.
 21. I heard something like 35-32, Stephenville winning.
