1.
Seems someone is getting the wrong information on these coaches. Both are still coaching and are expected to be back next year. Newton has added even more coaches, Hill from Hemphill is aboard as is Gulley who went to Kirbyville with W.T. and came back with him. There is also two more coaches aboard and only one of them is in question to whether he will be back next year or not. All these coaches teach other than just coach. Also, I was told by one of the coaches that the attitude of the kids has improved, W.T. has implemented a program with decipline and the kids are reacting to it.   I apoligize to all of the district teams that are licking your chops, but Newton Football is BACK.
If NISD is able to add that many coaches to the athletic program, maybe the other districts need to get some finance lessons from them.
i got one that will save every district in america...... go to 4 - 10hr days. this will save every district on elect, transportation, meal credit....... just think of the everyday costs.... BILLOINS SAVED!!
...And cost parents money in child care for 1 day a week. I guess it would be a boom for day cares.
 3.

Word on the grapevine is longtime Newton assistant coaches Lidney Thompson and Gene Waukoviak will not get new contracts for the 2011-2012 school year. This is not the decision of new head coach WT Johnston, but an effort by the Newton School Board to cut cost for the new school year budget. The board has decided to not offer contracts to personnel that have retired from teaching and are receiving retirement money from Teacher's Retirement and have been rehired by the district. This cost the district extra money to do as they have to pay a penalty to the state education fund for these people. So let's just kick out 80 years of coaching experience to satisfy a pencil pusher. Makes sense to me. ::)
Gene to Jasper?
Doubt it unless 2 others are let go. We're facing challenges like everyone else.
 4. Congrats to the team and coach. Great way to fight back and get that final playoff spot and maybe even a 2nd place finish!
 5.
If you have not seen the new Gym in Pineland it is a sight to behold.  Supposedly the size of 4 regulation courts when the seating is back.  The court is 10 foot longer than the old court and was told that it is the largest in the region.  Seating is phenominal, individually padded seats on both sides.  Extremely nice artwork on the walls.  Amazing for 1A or any level for that matter.
Glad to see them get it - it was a long time coming and deserved. About how many seats? Big enough to host playoff games for schools larger than 1A?
 6. I can't wait to see the good things that Alvarez does in Ennis. He's such a competitor - I have no doubt he'll be successful. Yes, Coop this is the big fish.
 7.
Paris sounds promising and word is that its between Alvarez, Bowman (again what a joke) and guy already in the Ennis porgram at Ennis so well have to wait and see.  I think Bowman is still playing games and I dont see them going with a guy from inside.   Ennis and Paris  LOL   Jasper who???
It seems very strange to me that Bowman is applying at so many places and then removing his name from consideration. Hopefully Daingerfield is the only place he ever wants to coach at because if I'm another school district I'm hesitant to seriously consider him in the future.
 8.
Heard rumor today that Alvarez was offered the Paris job.  Anybody got any info about this or is this just a small town rumor??
If true, I wish him lots of luck. Paris is lucky to get him. I suspect they'll be contending for state championships within the next 2 - 3 years, if not sooner.
 9.
My friends uncle who works at Fat Freds is friends with a school board members cousin that said they are hiring a football coach and baseball coach on FEB. 1st
Fat Fred's is the real deal.
 10.
yea "IF" is the key word there.  Everyone keeps saying they got the one with the exprience and keeps talking about his 3 state championship titles.  I got news for you people there is a big difference in being an DC running another Coaches scheme in a program that had unlimited supply of athletes and being the AD of a large 3A School that is coming off a 2-8 season.  Coach Morgan might prove himself to be the better coach of all the other apps but in my opinion as of this moment they didnt hire the "best" Coach available.
...and this. But, I'm hoping for the best and ready to support the kids and the new coach.
 11.
I dont know anything at all about Coach Morgan and he might work out and be one of the best coachs Jasper has ever had.  Im not meaning to question his ability, I just questionion the hiring process.  They seem as they went from trying to get the best coach out there with Bowman to hiring the best coach for the situation they got their self into after being played by Coach Bowman.  Was Coach Morgan the best choice out there or was he the best choice to save face?
This...
 12. This whole thing has put a really bad taste in my mouth. I feel like taking a break from Jasper football. But, it's like a train wreck that I can't help but watch.
 13.
Mixed emotions here... ??? ...  :-[ ...  :-\ ...  :'( ...  ;D
New emotion -  >:( . I hope we didn't mess up our chances with other top candidates by making this public offer to someone who publicly turns it down. WOW!
maybe because he has whipped them for the last 7 years...... they know him.... did not give him the job the first time and figure they made a mistake.... has taken Kville 3 rounds deep in playoffs the last 3 years they have been in 3A, 2 state finals in 2A...  Is a class act guy.... has discipline for his kids and invokes character in his coaches.... Just like Jackhammer said..... why would they not want him!!!
As I have mentioned before, there is no doubt he's a great football coach. But the job is also AD. And it seems that none of the other sports there have had great success while he's been at Kirbyville. It's just my opinion that he's a one sport guy, which is no problem in some places, but in Jasper it's a different situation because we expect a lot out of football AND baseball every year.
Word is that the Jasper Baseball Faithful are against him. As a result, I fear that irreparable damage may be done and cause a rift in the community. For the life of me, I can't figure out why Jasper baseball fans think they will suffer if Jasper has a successful football program. Jasper fans can support both.
 16.
did alvarez back out?? why is anybody talking about others than him??? He's done an awesome job at Kirbyville!!!
Maybe he was never approached or maybe he never applied... ;) ...disappointed if either is the case.
 17. Congratulations on a magical season, Coldspring. You've established a program with a great coach - you all will be contending for titles in the foreseeable future.
 18.

If any of this true, I'm sure the district nor the coaches would appreciate you broadcasting it on this message board.

 23.
I enjoy watching the playoffs, but why do people feel the need to ride someone elses coattails?  Just asking.
From my perspective, it's not necessarily about "riding someone else's coattails". I just find the games much more enjoyable when I have a team I'm pulling for.
 24.
how about just support / follow the rest of SETX teams in the playoffs?  :D :D
I actually support all of them. But, can only try to make it to one playoff game each weekend weekend. Maybe I'll spread the love around and decide each week where to go. Hopefully we get a lot of teams going deep.
 25. My team, Jasper didn't make the playoffs this year.  :( So, I'm looking for a team that I can support and follow during the playoffs.
