I've seen video of Jones. Big, strong kid with good (not great) HS arm. He will play college football, but not at QB. Maybe LB! Reminds me of the Jason Phillips kid from Waller several years back. Great competitor at QB and helped them win, but not a college QB. Moved to LB at TCU and excelled. May be the path that Merka will take as well. Green will play QB in college. He is 6'2" 180+ and has a rocket for an arm. And he can throw on the run as well as any QB I have seen in recent history at the HS/College level. To very good HS QB's!
I'll take the 2A District MVP, Hank "the tank" Jones. I don't know of anyone else with the same combination of power, speed, arm strength, accuracy, game knowledge/decision making, and TOUGHNESS as Hank Jones. Other might excel in one or two areas, but Hank has it all. It was a privilege to have Hank wearing the Green & Gold the past three years! Well done! ;D
You haven't seen Green from Ozen then. Green is faster and has a stronger arm than Jones. He is something to watch! Would love to see what he could do with a real Offensive Line?? Spends most of his time running for his life.

My understanding was that he left Lamar in large part due to philosophical differences with his boss??? But I am sure some of you that are closer to the program would have better insight. What ever reason he went back to Miss, I still would have him high on my list and find out what it would take to convince him within reason. I liked the guy as a coach and my two favorite LU players from the past 15-20 years (Sanders and Nabors) where his guys which tells me he recruits well and both were high character guys, team leaders and fan friendly. Todd was good as well. -
I know about the NBA 6th man award but at Lamar there is no 6th man as on day it is one player then the next it's another.
At Lamar it's Mike James and he seems to like the role. I like his attitude about being the first guy off the bench. He said that he gets to watch what is happening the first few minutes and has a good feel for what the team needs from him when he gets in the game. Good stuff. I noticed he was sitting next to Roc during the first few minutes of the McNeese game talking about what they were seeing McNeese do. I like that.
badnadn, I'm sure you know more about basketball than myself. But, it only takes an average fan to see changes need to be made at the Head Coaching position at Lamar University.
Like I said before, this we both agree on. Rocs not a X's and O's guy and you need that in your HC at this level since you A.) aren't recruitinf future NBA prospects and B.) can't have 10 coaches on staff or keep good X's and O's coaches for long. -
GDawg, Livingston has had decent teams 3 of the last 4 years, but they are not a legit threat to make a playoff run and they don't throw the ball (Which I think is what kills them in the playoffs). They had a Sophomore QB this past season (C. Collins) and should be pretty good next year, but I would once again predict that they will bow out of the Playoffs in round 1. If I were moving to the Conroe area and looking for what your looking for with your son, I would have to agree with these guys. Montgomery Bears (of Course without Dobbins in the backfield next year they may fall off a bit ;D). If they are moving to 5A it will be tuff for them to compete against the bigger 5A's like The Woodlands. Strength in numbers.

Jason Terry! Who by the way Mike James is very much like (6'2", fast with the ball, streaky shooter who can go off for 50 one night then go 0-10 the next, average on-ball defender who will get his share of steals because of his quickness). Go check the NBA there is an annual award for it. You and I agree on one thing for sure...It is time for a change at the top of the LU Basketball program. While too many games the past few years I could lay blame on Roc for a second half meltdown, I just can't blame Roc for the loss to McNeese. He didn't commit those stupid turnovers down the stretch (they were not due to a poor playcall as several were before the ball was across mid court) and he didn't miss FT's down the stretch. Actually both plays out of the time outs at the end worked! Milk got fould amd Missed GW FT's and Davis missed an open look at the buzzer. -
Finishing falls on the COACH, as he should have the right players in the game and playing the right schemes to WIN THE GAME.
Mike James was on the court to finish the game. While I agree it is time for Roc to go, Roc didn't miss two FT's with 11 seconds left down one!!! Milk did, and he is our best FT shooter. And the play they ran out of the TO that got Milk to the FT line was designed to be for MJ, but he couldn't get open. Roc also didn't turn the ball over three times late in the game...They lost last night because they didn't execute, not because they were outcoached! McNeese is just better than us. McNeese made shot after shot with a hand in their face. We haven't had anyone that could do that consitently since AD left. The only thing I thought Roc screwed up on last night was putting Coy in when Harper got injured. I would have gone with Lamb or Nelson. Of course Lamb would have probably had to have come out near the 2:00 minute mark anyway since he is such a poor FT shooter.
I don't know about you but I didn't like coming off the bench in any sport I played. Didn't play BB in high school.
Again BB is different than any other sport. The sixth man can play more than the starters. Especially as a gaurd on a team that starts three gaurds sometimes four. Lots of available PT. Mcneese did a good job of disrupting James last night. His only FG came off of a steal and he dunked it home. I was dissapointed in him when his first shot he took was from beyond the Cardinal Logo!!! No reason for that shot. I am sure it didn't sit well with the staff either. Then late in the game he made a poor decision and committed a TO at mid court, then compounded it by fouling the guy (the guy didn't have an open look at the basket so no reason to foul). -

Been Caught Grinkin' IF LU forked out big bucks, and IF BCG got drunk one night and accepted the LU job (Beer Goggles), and IF he turned LU into a winner in a few years, he'd be gone ASAP!!! Skelton would be affordable, has prooven himself as both a recruiter and an X' & O's man, and would have to win over a longer period of time at LU to get a better gig. Just a thought. -
Well, he scored 22 against UCA and was the SLC POW so he needs to get into a rhythm. He is at least as good a Miles and Harris.
He had ample opps last night to get into a rythm he just had a bad game. I guess the question I ask you guys is if he is getting 20+ minutes a night off the bench, what difference does it make if he starts or not? Pretty sure the game is still a full 40 Minutes. Basketball is the one sport where starting is overated. It's finishing that is most important...Ask McNeese! ;) It was Shaq that once said he only watches the last 2 minutes of most games when he is not playing because the other 46 are pointless. (In A roundabout way). Again last night McNeese was better than Lamar. And just watching them throughout the night I would feel very confident in saying that McNeese will win the SLC East. -

Coach Tidwell 7-8 is unacceptable with 4 of the wins against non DI schools!
Go look at his stats last night! He played 10 minutes too many. This team doesn't hav a consitent scorer!!! -

Last night Lamar got beat by the better team. Go look at the stats for proof. Lamar had no business winning that game. McNeese shot better from the floor, shot better from behind the line, shot better from the charity stripe and rebounded better. They also made clutch FTs and our top FT shooter choked! Also McNeese made shot after shot with a hand in their face. When was the last time Lamar did that against a DI team? As far as Lamb goes I have to agree that when Harper went out I figured either Lamb or Nelson would come in. Coy had the one put back, but he had several other big blunders. The problem with Lamb late in close games is he shoots just over 50% from the line. His game is getting to the basket and those guys usually shoot well from the line. -

He was hot in the 1st half!!!! Not sure of his rotation strategies..........don't think he knows either!!!
I questioned the rotation myself. BTW, I think Lamar is the only college team in the country that has a 52 point player coming off the bench. ;) Roc simply got out coached in those last two minutes.
James dropped 52 on a horrible DIII team. Look at what he did last night against a fairly good Low Major DI team. 1-6 from the floor with 3 turnovers (one of them very costly) and no assists in 17 minutes. The bigger question is why have Harper and Miles regressesd in the past few weeks?? I agree, the Roc experiment is done! -
In my view Roc had a good x & o assistant coach and let him get away. The one that came in with Lamar Sanders, Todd and Nabors and then left to go back to JUCO head coaching. I don't think Roc's ego can have someone on the bench that we the fans know is a better game coach.
Don "Bubba" Skelton!!! That's who I will lobby for the job if Roc is out. In eight seasons at Northwest Mississippi CC, Skelton posted a sparkling 198-56 (.779) record and guided the Rangers to the NJCAA National Tournament in Hutchinson, Kan., five of the last six seasons, including four consecutive trips. He has also led Northwest to five Region XXIII championships, five District 16 titles, two MACJC state crowns and five MACJC north division championships. (His overall head coaching record is 322-161, a winning percentage of .667.) Before JCJC. In his first season at Jone County JC in 2008-09, Skelton piloted the Bobcats to a 24-5 record and their first MACJC state championship since the 1945-46 season. It was the fifth overall state championship for the Bobcats. Last year, the Bobcats compiled a 17-10 record and advanced to the semifinals of the Region 23 Tournament. NW Miss was horrible before he took over. As was Jones County JC were he has been the past three seasons. -

Wing T can work at the 3A and lower levels. I think the lower you go in classification the better it works. Watch 4A and 5A and you will see very few teams that win deep in the playoffs with any of the Wing or Bone offenses. The reason is that the number of Athletes is greater the higher up in class you go. Therefore it is harder to weardown teams that can rotate in DLine and even LB that only play one way and are very good athletes. -

I doubt 01, they really got off to a lousy start, so not sure if they cracked the rankings during the 10 week regular season??? Don't matter when you're in the state semi-finals though.
The '99 team with Sullivan was 9-0 and ranked 9th when they came to the Reservation. PNG was 8-1 (lost a nail bitter to WOS). The Dogs left unranked and 9-1 after a 31-8 beatin'!
Wasn't that the year you met Stephenville and Superman? Ned then proceeded to reel off three straight....35-10 ring a bell? I remember Ned being ranked as high as #8 in the early going. The only ranking that matters is when the season is over. ::)
Yes it was the year PNG met Stephenville and Superman in the STATE TITLE GAME. I honestly can't remember the last time PNG was actually in the top 10 of the state polls. Of course the polls are weeks 0-10 only. In 99 we obviously finished the season top 10. 35-10 does ring a bell..It's one way to get back from Austin! ;D
