  1. I think Nederland's offense will give Lumberton fits, you can't stop Grogan (he is a man child) so I think Lumberton will try and contain the passing game and have little success. I also think that Lumberton is too one dimensional this year to outscore Nederland.

In other words I think Nederland scores quickly and makes a couple of stops of the Raider running game, which will be just enough to win (Nederland 31 - Lumberton 21). I actualy might sneak over to Bulldog stadium to watch this one!

Before you LTrain fans start screaming about respect, I am not dogging your program, just telling it like I see it. I have been wrong once before...ONCE!  ;D

  2. Dont believe you can compare Friday nights to Saturdays or Sundays.

Not athlete wise, but running play action is a no brainer for any power football team. And a draw or two when we went back into the shotgun would help keep the rush off. Also don't care much for having two RB's in the shotgun for protection. I would prefer one back with an extra TE on the line.

  3. I was at the game. Didn't see any fisticuffs!

Where did this occur? I never saw any crowds form or any cops?

No excuse for grown men throwing punches at a HS football game.

Outsiders have this misconception that Matt Burnett has won all the time, but this is just not true. PNG has a winning season every 3 or 4 years because the personel fit the mold of an MB team. But in those other three years MB does not adjust to fit his talent. The fact that Larry Neuman does adjust year in and year out just makes it worse. Matt likes to play a stingy defense and run you into the ground and win 17-10. But this years team is not capable of doing that. The talent on defense does not allow it. The talent on offense is better siuted to spread it out and try and score quick. We ran play action once Friday night for a 40 yard gain. Once! How does a power running attack only run play action once?? Watch on Sunday. They live off of playaction.

  4. The stands were a lilttle empty compared to usual. But I think a couple of things contributed to that.

    1. The recent losses.

    2. Pecan Festival in Groves.

The home stands were packed against Livingston and the stadium actually seats about the same as it did before, they just moved the endzone seats to the home side. I kinda liked the endzone seats myself, but I guess with the new Jumbotron they had to be moved.

Tip Durham has been announcing at PNG for 40+ years. He actually usually does a great job and sounds very profesional. He was a little off Friday night though, I will admit. I guess it happens once in a while. Bob Sheppard is not flamboyant either, but he is the most recognized announcer in all of sports!

Lumberton's announcer was yelling into the mic at halftime. Not necessary with our new sound system. We were deaf before the bands played  ;D. I hope someone explains to the Central announcer that he doesn't have to be loud like you have to at most SETx stadiums before teh next home game. Can't wait for that Jaguar halftime! Always entertaining.

  5. I have to say congrats to Lumberton on a good game and I really hope Beard can come back quickly as he is a beast. He reminds me of the typical PNG Linebacker, tuff as nails and mean. I think the better coached team won this game. Coach Creuder found what was working and went with it in the second half. PNG only ran 5 plays in the second half.

But, I still don't see anyone from our district doing any damage in the playoffs. Lumberton is a far cry from what they were last year with DeJohn. They have absolutely zero passing game, which will hurt them. Trust me I have seen enough PNG football over the years to know that once you get out of this district, you can't win on just the ground game. Happens to us regularly. Watching Lumberton was like watching PNG over the years. Tuff stinging defense and salty ground game, but no air attack.

When PNG ran to the outside they got yardage, but when they ran between the tackles they got stuffed. So what did we do on 4th and 3 inside the 20? We ran between the tackles for 0. Ridiculous. Why run into the heart and soul of the Lumberton D? We don't adjust on offense at all. Sometimes I get the feeling that we have plays written down for each down, that we are going to call before the game even starts and never veer away from it! Plus we have a 6'3" WR with great hands, good speed and great ability to go up and get the ball, and with the game on the line we throw the deep post to the shortest WR on the team and it gets picked?? Explain that one to me?

Good Luck Raiders! You now are in the drivers seat to win this crazy district.

  6. Before you turn the lights out on the coach and the team, look where Nederland was last year. Did they get rid of Nueman, nope, and this year they are right back in it. Every team has an off year, if they don't, you can bet there's something going on that isn't on the up and up like gouging are punching in the pile ups anyone ever heard rupmors of local teams doing that? ;)

One big difference. Neuman had been to the playoffs 10 consecutive seasons before that and beat PNG 3 out of every 4 years. He also was starting a Sophomore QB. Neuman has changed his style to suit the talent at Nederland from season to season. The offense is creative and fun to watch.

On the flip side Matt has had a 52-37 record since the D. Long Era (30-7) and has gone 21-15 since Mike left (one playoff appearance). They were 71-31 while Mike was calling the offense and Matt was doing what he does best, which is running the defense and keeping the kids in line. I would like to see Matt bring in an offensive mind and let him do his thing. No meddling. Then Matt could focus on the defense.

  7. No doubt the Barry Center is the Taj Mahal of HS football facilities. I think they got a few correct. Ratcliff in Odessa, Stadium Bowl in Tacoma Washington, Massillon's stadium in Ohio, and the Horse Shoe stadium in New Orleans were good picks, but some of the others????

I always liked Pennington Field in Bedford (FW area).

A couple of those stadiums are college stadiums used by High Schools.

  8. It's weird over at PN-G historically the middle school teams aren't very good but when they combine and learn the system they seem to get better with time.

You are correct. But the current Freshman and Sophomore groups were actually very good in middle school as well. The JV is undefeated and there are four or five Sophomores currently on Varsity. The 9th grade has done well, just not sure what the current record is. Given some direction (and imagination  ::)) they could have a big impact in 4A the next few seasons. After that I am not too sure. The current middle school teams have not faired so well as of this year.

Current Varsity group has quite a few Juniors in key positions doing quite well (Harmon-FB, DeRon-WR, Segura-WR) plus the defense is young.

The peeWee group has a few....Just kidding  ;D

You never can tell until they play on Friday Night!

  9. Good natured ribbing at work about Friday night results is what makes this area so special when it comes to football support. PNG fans at my place of business are no different than Vidor fans or Nederland fans or Ozen fans. When they win they do the same to us and we laugh and defend our boys.

But I have never seen a PNG fan taunting an eleven year old fan or any other fan of the opposing team as they left the Reservation. I know I have had many a good conversation as we walked to the car after the game with opposing fans and they always end with a well wishing to them on a safe trip home and successful rest of their season wether we won or lost. If I saw a PNG fan taunting after the game I would have to interject that we don't tolerate that.

  10. I don't know what's going on but Westend1 is right, PNG doesn't have the players this year to contend in this district... hope it gets better for them, doesn't feel right for them to be so bad.

    That's bogus.

    District Ranks:

    QB - 2

    RB - 2 & 6

    WR - 4, 6 & 10

The defense is young and porous. I get that, but some of the things that the coaching staff has done on offense and special teams is ridiculous. Why with the game on the line (down 2 with 5 minutes), do you send a kid to return a punt when the team is punting from the 35 going in. I asked a real coach from a well respected area program what should be done in that situation and he said you play your base defense and don't send anyone back. Said you play for the fake. Odds are they will either kick it into the end zone or inside the ten with no chance at a return because of the short coverage area. This guy didn't know what the outcome was either. PNG coaches sent a kid back there and he was begging them for direction. He was yelling what do I do?? And they didn't respond. The poor kid muffed the punt inside the ten. Vidor recovers. TD, Game over! Not his fault. Piss Poor Coaching.

Never throwing on 1st down. Never went to three receiver set. Threw only on 3rd down and long 2nd downs. Threw 7 times all night.

They have a Sophomore on Varsity that is 6-3 250 lbs and plays DT (which is the worst unit right now) and he never touches the field?? Why is he not on JV?? Why is he not actually playing on Varsity??

  11. im going out on a limb and saying livingston over NED.......even though i know they dont play this week i think livingston will beat NED........one thing i know for sure NED wont be able to pass the ball on those two corners they have i think the lions might have the best secondary in the district

Nederland will be able to throw against Livingston.Too many targets to stop. I know Livingston got two picks for scores against PNG, but PNG did manage to move the ball through the air against them.

I agree. Those two corners are very good. PNG's mistake was trying to throw the quick five yard outs early in the game whe they knew what was coming. Those two CB's both were ready (well coached) and jumped the routes to the house, but once PNG went to the middle of the field they threw for over 250 yards. I don't see Nederland having trouble getting yards or even offense for that matter against Livingston. Nederlands problem could be lack of defense, but I think that they can outscore most in our district.

  12. Just curious, In your playoff scenario, You are assuming Lumberton looses to Nederland & PNG?? And furthermore you ASSume that PNG beats Ozen, Vidor, & Central?? You know what they say about assuming stuff.

No I never ASSumed anything. I predicted as the title says. You Lumberton fans are so sensitive!

Assume -  to take to be true without proof.

Predict - to foretell something; prophesy.

Raiders will win the district and will never lose another game...Ever. Becasue their fans take it to be true without proof!  ::)

Get over yourselves. You had one very good season, not great, but very good and you get your panties in a wad if someone doesn't pick your beloved Raiders to win it all!
