The Icon got a reaction from Mr. Buddy Garrity in Interesting Observation
My team is pretty gritty and we over achieve. Never had too many athletes to my knowledge, but we do our best.

Obviously JustUs wants a quality hire but what is with the oversized bold font???

The Icon got a reaction from Alpha Wolf in Ozen Is Open?
Valid statements
This is an open forum however, people can voice their opinions. Beauty of a message board I suppose. That being said: Suggs resigned, Toby was offered the Woodville/Cleveland jobs (accepted, then later turned them down) and Flanigan was a finalist for Goose Creek and Sterling. There's obviously an issue somewhere behind the curtain.

The Icon got a reaction from Mr. Buddy Garrity in 22-5A Predictions
Going off what teams have coming back and what I saw from the previous season, my feeble mind predicts the following going into Week 11:
Vidor (2-5) vs PA Memorial (7-0): PAM plays their Freshman 2nd string while resting their bellcows heading into the playoffs. Vidor laments the day that Port Arthur dropped to 5A.
Port Neches-Groves (6-1) vs Nederland (6-1): Both w/ Losses to PAM, battle for 2nd in District. Larry and BF secretly agree to play the 2s in the second half to see what they have coming "next season" so the old timers can drink coffee and debate games from the 1950s about which school is better. A mysterious 8th grade kicker puts it though the uprights for the win. Venues, dates and times for playoff opponents were made well in advance of Mid County Madness.
Lee (1-6) vs Central (4-3): Central gets into the playoffs with a 5th win, Foreman waves his towel around getting the Jaguar faithful pumped for a Bi-District game at the Butch.
Livingston (0-7) vs Ozen (3-4): Ozen finishes district play @ 4-4 and misses the playoffs due to losses at the hands of PAM, PNG, Nederland and Central. They can care less because it's basketball season, and Livingston's punishment for submitting false numbers is finally at a close.
Lumberton (3-5) Bye: Coach knows how to roll out the balls for basketball tryouts.

Hahaha! Having Lumberton as #1 is almost as hilarious as having Central there!
It's PAM, then the Mid County Schools and either Central or Ozen bringing up the rear.
Let Vidor, Livingston, Lumberton and Lee fight it out for the toilet bowl!

Like the last 2 years?
Lmao!
Keep hope alive I guess. Hey if I were you I'd focus on beating WB for the first time since Noah built his Ark. And I need my soda!

From the outside looking in I would say that maybe how yall treat your coaches needs to change. Maybe! I could be wrong, but hasn't Flanigan and Foreman got teams in the Playoffs the last 2 years? They do a lot for the kids, the kids get recruited, they aint bad men and yet they are bashed constantly.
BISD needs to ask why their coaches are trying to take every job that comes open! Look within and ask yourself "One Quit and 2 applied for every job under the sun, What is the problem with BISD"?
Kenny Ray got a PAM team to the State Semi finals, and he is given nicknames on this site like Xbox and bad mouthed constantly! Why??
Nederland,WOS,PNG treat their coaches with respect and they stay around a while. JMO

So, if Stallworth were a chick you were trying to pick up, you'd say ol Stally is a solid 4 or 5?

I know you didn't say Sterling has nice facilities. I haven't been to a school in that district that has nice facilities. Stallworth is a relic and I've witnessed many a kid go down via the turf monster there.
Toby was offered a job, took it, then decided against it.
Suggs left/is leaving Ozen.
Flanigan may or may not be the "Beaumont Coach" in this scenario.
Sure speaks to the 'sterling' reputation of BISD. *Sorry - I just couldn't help myself!

The Icon reacted to oldschool2 in Lumberton's field
I'm actually not surprised at all by this response. I offer a fact: 43 of last 50 state champs play on turf.
An opposed argument comes in with a list. Which has the opposite intended effect. 9.7% of schools with turf played in December, 4.1% of schools with grass did.
Lo and behold....here comes "they were already successful".
I suppose that maybe they were. I already said...turf alone is not a formula for success. It is one piece to the puzzle. But you have to admit those statistics are a little compelling. Some schools have an easier time upgrading because of tax base. No doubt. But some schools just make it a priority...no matter what. That's all I'm saying.
And like I said before...just figure in the cost of: mowing the field/practice field twice a week 8/9 months out of the year, fuel for mowers/weed eaters, equipment maintenance costs, painting the field plus paint, edging/weed eating around the fields, watering the fields 3/4 months out of the year, plus the cost of man hours to accomplish those things. Now take that number and multiply it by 10 or 15 years. Plus...what would the cost of missing 1, 2, or 3 days of preparation due to water/weather be? Or practicing on the gym floor to keep from tearing up the field. And don't forget baseball/softball can benefit from it also. And youth football... May not be as expensive as it seems.
That's all I'm saying. I'm sure this will get a rebuttal as well.

If it is Mackey, that would be an outstanding hire for the Eagles. Hope that info is correct.

The Icon reacted to Barney Fife in Lumberton's field
This is a good move by the community and school district. If the district has money to use on turf and TAX payers don't mind the increase then its a good move. Most teams in playoff situations look for the best stadium to play in and turf is more neutral than grass in my opinion. In the long run this will be a good financial move for the raiders. Hope to catch a few games there next year.
