  1. I've said it before and I'll say it again. I think a lot of Holley's success at Porter came off what Reno Moore started and he was able to parlay that into upper level admin.
  2. Beat me to it. I know a of a few guys that interviewed and made a comment that he was on the hiring committee.
  3. Typically when it's a "done deal" they'll post the job posting up at the admin office front window so that they can say it's been "posted" for 10 days. Congrats Coach Stark and good luck!
  4. Where I went to school her name was Luz. That was probably the last, great tight end to ever leave.
  5. You're pointing out anomalies in the state of Texas. This point in an argument always bothers me. People bring up teams that will always be in position to play in state championships to compare teams to. On paper there are a lot of teams "demographically" that could compete with the teams you put up there. In fact, look at the demographics of a place like Kingwood Park and College Park in Conroe and try and figure out why they aren't winning more football games. I don't necessarily think you saying that to compare PNG to those schools, but I see that argument all over the place and it doesn't matter if PNG is tied to it or not.
  6. Why does it wreak of Danny Villanueva and his multiple accounts in this thread?
  7. My money is on Crockett helping him make that decision. I think that's one of those places where you'll never have enough footballs to go around and expectations are state championships when the work ethic/commitment is mediocre.
  8. Very true. Aledo attracted a quarterback transfer all the way from California.
  9. The problem with Center is that it's Center. They should always be winning state championships, have 17 balls on offense, everyone gets the ball every play, don't worry about playing defense, and coaches should never hold kids accountable. I don't blame Coach Ponder.
  10. This reminds me of when Danny Villanueva was coaching in SETX and every time a job popped open one of his 20 screen names would say something about Danny needing to get the job.
  11. He's originally from Bridge City. While he was in the SETX area his name would pop up quite a bit when head coaching openings were available but I haven't seen his name pop up in a while. My assumption is that wherever he is, his name is being brought up on regional forums talking about his prowess under multiple names.
  12. What in the world are you talking about? I'm asking if anyone has seen or heard from Coach V in a while. Every time a job popped up in the area his name came up and I'm wondering if he's still coaching.
  13. Has anyone seen or heard where he ended up after his stint at Bridge City?
  14. I would say that Coldspring has a chance of getting it. The reason I'm saying this is because not all parents will force their kids into quarantine in the event they end up testing positive...so they'll start infecting other people. With Shepherd and Coldspring being as close as they are and the amount of things y'all do together on weekends there's a good possibility it can happen.
  15. I'm not so sure about that. I believe that was the year that Tarkington beat Splendora in the last game of the year. I could have sworn Tarkington had a winning record that year going into district. Or maybe I'm thinking 01? EDIT: I'm thinking 01. Splendora beat Madisonville in the 2nd round of district and Tarkington beat Splendora in the last round of district. I think it was the 1st time in maybe 8-10 years Tarkington had beat Splendora.
  16. I'm happy for Huntington regardless of their opponent. That community and the way athletics is setup makes it difficult for them to be successful year in and year out in football.
  17. Credit to Liberty. Talk about a community of under achievers Madisonville will look the part but the community won't get out of it's own way. Note: there have been and area great coaches there so I'm not taking shots at the coaches.
  18. I would go to www.passthetexes.com and get one of their study guides. They help you to identify what domain the question is coming from through the way the question is asked along with facts that are on the test itself.
  19. I was hoping someone would post something like this. Typically in small towns the genetic pool starts to dry up because there's nothing there as far as jobs go. I've always wondered why people think that just because a team had a string or 4-5 really good years that they're always going to have the same talent pool. I know of a small community that feels that way on I-45 just south of Huntsville that forgets about which hurricane made them good; not the home town gene pool. Navasota's talent was starting to dry up before Lee left there. If you look at Coldspring here lately kids have either been going to Willis, Huntsville, or Livingston. I'm not saying Brenham wasn't bad, but Glen had a way with those kids. And even before Glen finally retired their football participation numbers started to go down. It's interesting to see all the people that get on these message boards and are quick to point out the coaches that had great success there and tag that to the sole reason for these programs hitting "droughts". I think there's too many times where we think high school football is like college football and expect those programs to be dominating year in and year out. No one every really brings up Bay City anymore. Why don't they? With some mindsets I'm sure BC should be playing for the state championship year in and year out. Texas City, Lamarque (yes, I know what's going on there), Daingerfield, etc. They all fall prey to small town over expectations, small town last names wanting more glory, or even a lack of a local economy stable enough to support families.
  20. I've got a source that's said there are 15 classes at the elementary with no room for them to go other than the cafeteria. Can they be competitive in football again? Maybe but it's going to have to take some time for the coaching staff to work it out.
  21. They had a pretty good year last year. How do y'all think they'll do coming off a year like that?
  22. I can't remember that far back but I can assure you I'm not Danny.
  23. I was hoping Danny Villanueva would get a shot at this one. Oh well, maybe it's a good thing Big V didn't get it. Congrats to Coach Taylor!
  24. Look at Todd Dodge's record at Marble Falls compared to his teams in South Lake and West Lake. Where did he win? Do those places win without him? What about Rusty Nail? He won in Mart (and they're still winning there) and the best team he had in Madisonville got to the 3rd round. I am in no way questioning Dodge and Nail's coaching ability, but seriously it comes down to the coach? Lance Carter won multiple state championships at Texas City and LaMarque but only got the the play-offs once at Mayde Creek in I think the 10 years he was the head man there. Tim Hensley couldn't win a coin toss as a head coach but as a coordinator at Copperas Cove was pretty good. I know my examples go outside of southeast Texas but if you ask the guys that won the first state championship in Lake Travis they credit the senior class that year for the state championship and they ran the same offensive and defensive schemes while they were getting their lungs kicked in. Oh, speaking of Lake Travis Mike Wall won state championships there and as the OC in Temple and how many wins did he get this year in Willis? To answer your question, if you put those coaches in charge of PNG, no! PNG had a stud QB and that was about it. Would those coaches have been able to help Tyrone Swoops' Whitewright team not be as DREADFUL as they were (he was only considered a top 5 QB in the nation)?
