I THINK THE COACH NEED TO FOCUS ON WINNING FOOTBALL GAME,HE SHOULD HAVE CONFIDENT IN OTHER COACHES THAT HE HIRE TO DO THIS JOB,HE NEED TO COME WITH A BETTER SCHEAM IN BLOCKING AND MOVING THE BALL DOWN THE FIELD.NEXT HE WOULD WANT TO COACH SOFTBALL,BASEBALL,GIRL VOLLEYBALL.
Could you please translate what you just wrote, I lost you at "I think the coach need...........".
2. Well originally I was going to ask what's up with this post but tonight my question may have been answered since I saw the AD coaching freshman boys basketball tonight vs. HJ. Tough reassignment to do 9th boys basketball. Is this a guess or an official post of a change in Longhorn land?
3.

%100...no football no basketball or at least that's how it was when I was in athletics
Are you saying that at East Chambers, if you want to play basketball or any other varsity sport, you HAVE to play football? Am I understanding you correctly?
When my son was a sophmore we received a letter in the mail stating that to play other sports you had to play football...the fb numbers were down and they were trying to bring it up......neadless to say it took about an hour to iron that little wrinlkle out....I support  the fb program but that tatic didn't work....things are a lot better the last few years.
The "tactic" would also be illegal by the UIL. You cannot make playing a sport mandated or based on playing another sport. It is ILLEGAL to make it mandatory that playing a sport you have to play football. Now you can say the only ones in athletics are football kids, with everything else after school but not the other way.
4. Man I am so confused. Everyone on here has been saying the problem with HF basketball is "universal offseason," basketball kids that only practice basketball after school during the season but a poster/athlete said earlier that over the last two years basketball and baseball players have been able to practice THEIR sport together yearround, NOT WITH FOOTBALL PLAYERS. They can work on their skills for the first time all year if this is all they play. And not just after school? But yet some on here are still arguing that the reason the other programs are not successful is because basketball and baseball players only work out after school during the season and lift weights and condition with football players. Which is it? I do know Nederland athletes that play football and baseball or basketball, lift weights and offseason yearround, but not straight baseball players so why are they successful at both sports? Is the same thing not happening at HF? Please clarify.
5. Lets get real honest here.  Universal Off Season is a code word for "Make em all football players because every other sport is secondary"   Thats fine if everyone is on the same page and the only priority is to make football a success.  However, if a school/coach/administration chooses to embrace the Universal Off Season approach, that school will definitely "pay the price" in other sports and it seems to be most evident in basketball.  The "Whats wrong with UOS, it will just make them bigger, stronger, and faster" theory sounds good but the results do not support the theory.  If the players need to lift weights, why not let it be done under the supervision of the primary sport coach?
So what ur claiming HFHS has only kids in athletics that lift weights year round as/with football players? And also your point is that if you do not play football at HF you aren't in athletics? Please explain your post, because I am not following ur argument? If there are any HF athletes on here maybe you can tell me what you are doing year-round and expand on Steve's argument. No basketball, no baseball except during the season? If this is true why does HF have so few kids playing football? Or are all the programs hurting in numbers because of this? But all are talking at both ends by stating weights are important but....... Who cares when they lift as long as they lift? Because ebing stronger will only make you better at whatever sport you choose to play! Name one college or professional athlete male or female that does not lift and train year-round? Get out of the dark ages. If you want to be good at something you have to pay the price in hard work .
OK, here is the current situation at HF. 5th period athletics is for JV and Varsity Football athletics (basically if you play football and you are a sophomore and older). 8th period athletics is for freshman football and every other team sport. During 8th period athletics, each coach works out their own players in their own sport. If you don't play football, you don't have to lift with football players. You aren't even in the same athletic period as the football players if you don't play football.
Ok thanks for the info. Has it always been this way at HF? Or is it recent? Are the head coaches of the other sports with the basketball, baseball, etc., or are these players being "baby sat for", like PE. And again, what is the stevenash saying then is the problem at HF, he said "universal off-season"? It sounds like all athletes are getting there time in the sport of there chosing?
This type of athletic periods with each sport doing their own thing has been installed since Coach Mangan has been here. When Coach Walker was here, you were either in football athletics or P.E. Coach Walker was strictly a football guy and I can remember our former baseball coach, Chad Landry (now at BC), used to get frustrated because he would work the daylights out of a pitcher the day before a district game. However, that's all in the past now. Don't get me wrong though, if you are a football player at HF (that will return the next year) you work out with football for the entire offseason. REPLY TO POST UP: A baseball player who is in football athletics does not even have to dress out on gamedays, and wouldn't dare work out on a game day. Thats foolish.
Thanks for the facts . This rare in AAA in the state of Texas that sports besides football get to workout in there sports yearround. Maybe this is why numbers in football are so low. And it should definitely help improvve the other programs. I will say that if HF wants to improvee in football they better lift year round. And whenyou think about it this is only three days a week, correct, since baseball and basketball players do not lift on Tuesday and Friday because of games, if Ron is correct. And he is since it is a UIL rule. I would say HF is doin it right. And steve nash is "misinformed" as I thougt
i wasn't going to even add to this thread after the topic went from the game to this but IMO, it's not the athletes people should be bashing for quitting or anything of the sort. look what happen to BC 3 years ago, they went 0-10 and if you didn't score 60 on us you weren't a good football team. but the only people to leave the team that season were the seniors at the end of the season. that falls on the coaches. if you are having a horrible season and you have kids quitting left and right, that is on the coaches.
this type of stuff is what really ticks me off, not everything lies with the coaches, maybe  things lie with them partially, but my lord, at some point you have to stop pointing the finger, grow up and realize it's your choice to quit, not the coaches, you decide to quit then blame the coach? Puhleez, quitting is the easy way out and the easy way to point the finger. That's the reason we have many problems these days because people look for others to blame when, in fact, if they'd take responsibility for their own actions, they'd realize they choose their own outcome. Maybe you don't agree with everything he does and you don't have to, but quitting isn't doing anything but showing how weak you really are and that you'd rather take the easy way out. I'm not that old yet but I can tell you that life sometimes sucks and is worse than things that happen in high school football, if you are already quitting something that is fun, I can't imagine what else you'll quit later on. Anyways that's the end of my rant.
you're right, it's the individuals choice, but they choose to quit due to the lack of discipline. a coach teaches discipline as apart of the game, and if the kids dont have the discipline to work that much harder and not quit then someone isn't doing their job or there is just no hope with the majority of the people in this world. when i was in school the coaches told us that they are here to teach us life lessons and to give us the discipline to make life choices and to go on with life through adversity without quitting and giving up on whatever it is that lies in our way to succeed in life. and of course win some football games just to make the lesson that much more fun. but their primary goal was to teach us about life and how to continue, and then it was to teach us how to play the sport we love. im not trying to take up for the people that quit and just bash coaches. im not trying to take up for the coaches either. i just typed what i was thinking and maybe it doesn't read out like how im thinking it. i do agree with what you said, i was just typing what im thinking and as i said, maybe its not being read or typed out like how its going through my mind.
Let me ask you something brainiac with all the asnwers. Can you and anyone else please enlighten this board how this coaching staff is making these quit, if they are really quitting. Seems I read something that HF had only 60 something kids show up the first day of 2 a days. What is it that make you think a coach can do anything about a quitter? It sounds to me that kids are quitting because they have NO DISCIPLINE aND MAYBE THE hf STAFF IS JUST DEMANDING DISCIPLINE AND THEY REFUSE TO FOLLOW THEREFORE THEY WALK AWAY FROM THE TEAM AND THE PROGRAM BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO DISCIPLINE OR HEART? pLEASE ENLIGHTEN ME AND THE REST OF THIS BOARD HOW YOU HOLD coaches accountable if a kid doesn't have the heart to play football. WQhat can a coach do? Probably weren't much of a player to begin with. But please give me examples of discipline and how it is lacking in HF?
10. Yeah, we just need a Coaching Staff that can lead them. HF has never gone 0-10 in the history of their program and someone has to take responsibility for it. I would not be calling for this had we been competitive in our losses, but to lose the way we are right now is not good and it is time for a change. Have you any responsibility in this team? Why don't you go out and join the team? You could be their lone back-up player. You obviously have not been to a game and watched it in person? Do you really feel that this years HF team would have differnt outcomes with different coaching staff? You can't run a race without any horses, friend no matter if you have the best rider.
11. Dove, I would agree with you somewhat. Since Jasper, Silsbee, WOS & Bridge City moved down to 3A several years ago the days of HF's dominating Football program soon vanished. On the other hand to take a beat down the way that HF has done so far this year should not go by without someone taking responsibility for it and that falls on the Head Coach. IMHO is time for a change and some fresh ideas. So in less than three years the "ideas" and situation at HF under the current head coach have become so stale that another change is necessary already? Heck at least the last guy got 5 or 6 before he was sent packing by individuals such as you. I have been in the triangle area for along time, and I KNOW MOST of the problems with HF can not be placed on a Head Football Coach. You need to look much deeper to find the solution. Remember HF is legendary throughout Texas football as the district that fired Phil Dannher and Les Koenning. And when was HF such a powerhouse that this year is such a let down?
12. Orangefield will wins this one by 21+
13. I am not sure what this post is saying? Are you saying the coaches are making kids play football even though they do not want to? Because I heard they had only 65 kids playing football this year. Sounds to me like kids are choosing not to play football to play other sports but this is not what you said. Please elaborate since you posted you are from there and played there.
14. I saw them play at Lumberton and according to their roster they had maybe 80% of the roster sophomores and juniors. They had no less then 6 kids not suited up and 4 of those were seniors. They were tiny compared to Lumberton's size, they were slower than Lumberton, most kids playing both sides of the ball. The final score was 40-14, enough said. I am positive they have had less overall talent, less experience, and less size then every team they have played to this point thgis year and will play the remainder of the season. So some of you that are smarter than I, and sportsnutz too, tell me how this relates to poor coaching????
15. Sir, you have obviously have not seen HF play this year, because coaching has nothing to do with the problems they are having this season and anyone that thinks that either has not seen them play or knows nothing about football.
16. I think you are a little out of line here. That community was hit very hard by IKE. I do not think you have your facts correct. I believe they played Deweyville not Shelbyville. And they were out of school and practice for a long time like 3 weeks before filling that game so please do not trash talk such hardships unless you walk in their shoes.
17. Gloating over injuries? Not cool, IMHO. It's my understanding that there is more issues at HF other than injuries. You are probably right about "other issues", however, the response in question came directly after a post about numerous injuries and being short handed. What can you do about no participation in the program. They have to be the smallest school in the district aren't they? They did have like 7 or 8 sophomores on varsity but only about 28-30 on varsity roster when they played Lumberton. With that information it would mean 60-65 in the entire football program? What "other issues" are you referring to? Kids not wanting to play? They didn't have but two teams last year I believe? And freshman getting pumled by sophomores and juniors doesn't nake the team better it just makes more quit.
18. JV teams usually do beat freshman teams badly, or at least should.
19. Sorry I forgot to rate a team: WOS Offense - B very talented but no real scheme except get the ball to speed in open field. Defense - A- not as talented as in year past but always agressive, physical, and WELL coached. Overall B+ will get better as year goes on but will have trouble getting out of this region.
20. Well said Ron, and right on the money in my opinion. Good luck "Lonnie" with the rest of your gutless life, but for YOUR FORMER TEAMMATES' SAKE leave the negative commenting to the young men representing your community and "your" team not those that have chosen not to play, such as you.
21. I am not sure the kids from HF can take you comments any other way but with disrespect!! I saw the game and was impressed with Lumberton. I very different look from years past. They will live and die with the QB and passing game this year. And I assure you that Lumberton had starters in the game into the 3rd quarter including the starting QB which really surprised me considering his importance to this years success. And after looking at the roster, HF had 34 kids on the roster and 21 of them were 10th and 11th graders, this included 5 injured on the sideline with 4 being seniors including starting DB and TB from last year, Lumberton probably was playing what should be HF JV team, but unfortunately it has turned into this years varsity. Hang in there Horns because your time will come in the very near future with that much youth but only if you can improve and do give up from this "on the job training." You guys played hard and had some bright spots last night. Just to touch on what you said about the starting QB being in late in the game...The backup QB did not suit out so he kinda had to stay in . [/quote Still believe you have tp have someone else tp get snaps for the health of the remainder of the season to be hopeful

23. Come on Walt give it a rest. Dude, the guys name is Gabe, and don't shut him up, I would like a response to my deleted post. Please.
24. I am not sure what you are calling an argument??? An argument is when two people offer differing view points on an issue and fight to see who is right. We have yet to discuss anything and you have yet to offer anything but directives to this "argument." Please respond to what my statement (which you deleted) has to do with an AD, a superintendent, and eligibility? I will repeat it, BC beat HF 10-7, it was a good game on both sides, the homerun by the Kellogg kid from BC was the difference. Kellogg has sure turned into a "handy" transfer for BC, especially right when district play began.
25. Why would you delete the topic if it was discussed in another thread. What "bylaws" are being broken by giving facts about baseball?
