I think it is exactly what these kids need and deserve, school has 8 months left, football season only lasts for 6 more weeks so I believe it is a great thing to see happening. But if these kids haven't been on the field in almost two weeks to come out and play on three days practice? No offense, but there is much more to GETTING BACK TO BUSINESS!! "ADJUST AND OVERCOME?" What about the kids and families without a home to come back to?? Good job Buna! no power, no lights, that can all be overcome, but no homes to come home to may be much greater to overcome. And I know there are many in HF and BC that fall into that category. Not just 3 months out of the year, it has taken many many years of playing year round, and good coaching. You are also wrong on Burrell he is an outstanding athlete and could be a really good football player if he puts in the time. I would bet every school in the district would trade one for one right now. Athletes are athletes, heck Antonio Gates never played football in college only basketball and now he is in the NFL. Football is a team sport requiring many players working together basketball can be dominated by one or a few. Again, i would say HJ has more athletes and better athletes than HF and OF, but have lost in FB. And Silsbee has better than each but HF beat them as well? The answer to the million dollar question for the original coach basher on here was......? HJ has a commitment in both sports. That is why HJ athletic director is Martel. If it was solely basketball then they would have hired Sutherland as the AD when they hired Martel. They wanted to improve the football program!!!! It is just very hard with the talent pool and the district that they are in!!! Again, we agree but they Martel becaise he was a local boy they thought could revive the program without rocking the boat for basketball. Martel has still been given only limited support by the powers to be and will never have the power he will need to build the program where iy could be because it would mean stepping on the toes of the basketball program. HJ knew they could give the AD spot to Sutherland because they would have never been able to hire a decent football coach in Texas, but it is only a title, it must have total backing to go with. Your football program is as good as it is going to get with the situation as it is. Only unrealistic expectations and unrecognizeable problems would feel otherwise. It certainly is not the coach.

If he had the athletes that other schools in the district (WOS, Silsbee) have then HJ would be a playoff team guaranteed!!!!! Well this is easy to agree with BUT arent these same athletes at HJ winning and beating WOS, and SILSBEE athletes on the basketball courts? So what is the difference? Does it take types of athletes to win in basketball then football? I again do not hink so, IT IS CALLED COMMITMENT TO THE PROGRAM both internally and from the outside looking in. And your point is???? Anauhac must have a less conservative population. Can you name any other? Besides it isn't like we all knew IKE was going to turn north. Last night I went to bed and it was going to south Texas, the night before it was on top of us? It takes alot of coordiantion to reschedule a varisty football game more than 24 hours.

Like I said before the only way to be successful on a consistent basis in football is to build a program from the ground up. You cant come into a situation with the longterm success of a basketball program like HJ has had and expect them to win in football. The commitment takes time, time that usually is not given to the coach by unrealistic individuals in the community that think they have then answers to all. Support the coach, and level the playing field with the other sports and maybe success can be obtained.

The lack of commitment in football shows in the lack of attendance in weightroom and 7 on 7, I bet they werent absent from the gym during the summer months. Besides can you please address my thoughts to why the football program isnt as successful as you think? Do you not feel there are forces aournd the coach and the football program far stronger than an AD title? There are many good coaches that are simply in no win situations! watch it buddy...

It is an uphill battle for any coach or school to win in football when the basketball program is so strong. I would not care who coaches the football team, nothing will ever be allowed to interfere with the success of the basketball program at HJ. So dont bash the attempts of good coaches and good intentions of players and coaches. The fault lies in all the forces withing the district and the community that care only about the program winning. HJ will well overmatched in this game if played 35-0 vidor is my prediction.

Well there is obviously more EC people on this site than HF fans but I believe there seems to be some very biased optimism on the EC side. EC fans should hope the HF players arent reading these predicted blowouts. I am sorry but I cant see this as a blow out either way. HF lost some very key players last week to injuries but I will give the Horns the nod, HF 21 EC 14 without Daigle and Burrell.

Not only did they loose Burrell for 8 weeks, they also lost Hagan Daigle in the first half to a separated shoulder out 4-6 weeks. Both lost in 2nd quarter. It was a very very expensive victory for the Horns, both seniors. Prayers with both for speedy recovery.

There is either alot of Liberty homers on this site or alot of very optimistic people because I am amazed at the number of perople that think this will even be close much less Liberty winning. You just lost to BC, remember they were 0-10 last year. Now mind you BC is better, but BC should have won last year. HF pounded you last year by 20 or more at Liberty. It will happen again and maybe worse. Lets here from some realists about the outcome of this game.
