Take 2: Should teams flip or play?
ST413 replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
This has been explained repeatedly. A far as who the Tigers are trying to prepare for it is their second round opponent no matter which route they take both have inside players bigger than HJ's. -
How many kids are on the varsity?. It is a little hard to believe that on a basketball team of say about 15 kids that a coach wouldnt know a kid didn't live in the district especially that he wasnt enrolled in the school.
I missed the show tonight......why is Wheatley having to forfeit 5 games??
Baically, they played a player that wasn't even one of their students in those games. I forgot exactly what DV called the school he attended but it wasn't a regular high school so to speak and it wasn't part of Wheatley.
I guess my confusion lies in the fact that you are basically saying wheatley and yates counted their students in two different ways? One of the sure is right and one of them surely is wrong. Really confused on this!
Evidently Wheatley has more problems than knowing how to count students....they don't even know who their students are..

Interesting Question about district 20-4A
ST413 replied to Dick Vitale's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
You are right, most of them already cry about those two 3a's. But you would only have one of each in the finals and would keep the little schools from having to play the big ones unless they are the best little school. -

So 9 big schools (4a&5a) put then in the top of a 16 team bracket with one add in like Nederland tourney. And put 8 small schools in other bracket. Two separate tourneys in one with two best out of each bracket playing for the triangle championship. -

This year and for that matter probably last year, the Tigers and HJ, would finish in the top 2 spots. They may lose a game or two but would still end up there. This years Tiger team has no size so that would make them vulnerable on an off night. I don't know if HJ has had much of an off night this year. Both have proven they can beat the top teams. I haven't seen Central this year but have seen LCM, Ozen, and Nederland. LCM has a big man that would be a tough match up for the Tigers but it has been stated how they have guard problems. You wouldn't get away with that against these Tigers. Ozen was a game the Tigers jumped on big and then struggled to win but that was an early game. Virtually the whole Tiger varsity hadn't been playing long. Both teams have surely improved so these could be interesting. Nederland has had trouble with pressure defenses, after all didn't Central just expose that. So the Tigers would give them fits. HJ has proven what they can do to all these teams this year. Would it be a cakewalk...no but these two would end up on top. Yes being the bigger schools makes that a hard pill for you to swallow, just get a larger glass of water!! -
If Silsbee were to play Nederland, Ozen, or Central the way they played their two games against HF or their two games against WOS, then yes indeed, they would have lost several of those games. But also, bear in mind, although HJ beat Nederland and Central, I was hazard to guess that Nederland and Central have improved much more since those earlier games than HJ has. Those games would be neck and neck if played during district.
you are partially right, but you would have to at least throw out the second WOS game from this and maybe the first HF game. Silsbee played real well at WOS leading by 24 at halftime and winning by about the same margin. Had a 30 pt lead and put subs in briefly reducing the lead. -
No I have been a Cowboy's fan all my life even though I can't stand Jerry Jones. good luck tomorrow night. And unfortunately in the WOS gym it will only take about 40 HF fans to fill up their little section!

but if you practice hard isn't there still the same risk of injury? Not light workouts but good practices. -

I can understand the injury worry but, (I don't know how it was then) the first place team now can have a from tuesday until the following friday. I would think you would want a game in there just to stay sharp. -

I can see it being addicting PoppaBear but not so addicting that I could or would join the Hawk Club. ;) I just wish the kids had the support if their peers and community more here in Longhorn country.
Believe it or not, someone had the nerve to say(not to my face of course) " He only follows them because they win consistantly", They did not have the intestinal fortitude to say it to me, because my response would have been; ARE YOU ON CRACK....I've been a devoted aggie fan for over 20 years, yes even basketball, when they were horrible. If that were the case I would have dumped them 18 years ago...
You should see a Dr. about that....

I can understand anyone who has to work or has young children. I just believe these players deserve more support. It is a shame to see some teams with crowds of 20-30 people.
-
Very good post. I can tell you not enough people support these kids. My wife and I have been supporting the Tigers for several years now. We dont have kids. I can tell you that the problem exists even for the Tigers. You can count on the same core of fans to be at most games and that is not very many. More do turn out for the district and playoff games. I wish there would be a greater turnout at every game.

He did play a great game last year but it was the other guy that made the difference. Don't remember who it was. As far as who else has one, I don't know either. But I am sure Coach Sigler isn't just concerning himself for the first couple of rounds but anyone the Tigers could meet all the way to the state finals if they are fortunate enough to get there.
-
You may not find better competition as far as a better team, but you may find a good team with better challenges. Good team with a true dominant big man or maybe a team that handles the ball very well that is very deliberate and will control the pace of the game. I don't know but I know Coach Sigler has been looking for a team he feels will meet the Tiger's needs. We have already faced the Hawks twice and probably got better each time but I am sure Coach sees areas he feels we need work on that other teams may help us with more than HJ will especially that dominant big man.

All of this talk of a possible tie breaker game between the Tigers and Hawks is jumping the gun a little with both teams having a couple games to play. This year it appears there will be not much benefit to either route to Austin. The only game that should be "easy" will be the first game for the second place team, from that point on each team will have to face a team that is quite capable of winning the region. By the statements on here people can conclude that the Tiger coaches would rather just flip a coin than play the Hawks again. There are many points to ponder. One, would you rather have the bye in the first round or play and stay in that two game a week rhythm. Some big points for the Tigers were brought forth by the game that this thread was about. It is never hard for either HJ or the Tigers to get up to play each other, but at times it has been hard for the Tigers to get up to play other teams especially ones they expect to beat such as HF. Remember Coach Sigler was the coach of one of the best if not the best Tiger team who lost in the first round to a team they should have beaten so he definately wants to fix the focus issue. Another point, HF has a big man that gave the Tigers fits. He is taller and longer than Persohn and a better shot blocker. The Tigers may want to play someone who has a big man like that to work on some things. Yet another, the Tigers know HJ's style of play and may want to play someone with a style they haven't seen in a while to prepare for things they may face down the road. Sure there aren't a lot of teams that either ould face that are better than what they could face in each other but I really don't see much benefit in it at this point. The Tigers have already proven they can beat the Hawks, they don't need to prove to themselves that they can. I will have no problem if it comes down to Coach Sigler conceding the top seed to the Hawks. And for you Hawk fans may question it. That question can be answered the same way questions about your "weak" schedule were answered. Who knows how best to prepare the Tigers for the playoffs? ....the Tiger coaches not the fans.
