I would agree with those numbers being good. I might not have expected it to be quite that high though. I knoe us fans and coaches always want more.
[Hidden Content]
Those numbers arent a good reference here. Those are the elite. I am talking about high schools more so a good high school team, not a great one and not one of those pitiful ones either.
-
I will say I would love to see the 75% the Tigers shot tonight be a regular stat. And the 3's weren't too bad either.
-
Definitely.... ;D. But in all honesty this wasn't directed towards HJ it was just some of the comments that had me thinking about the subject. I really haven't paid attention to that percentage other than ours except a rare occasion.
-
I know a lot was made of the poor free throw shooting HJ had in the loss to the Tigers. Tonight in WOS they shot 58%. I saw another comment about not shooting them well tonight. I know as fans we feel that way in many games. But I haven't really paid a lot of attention to the percentages of many schools. What is considered a decent percentage for a good high school team. My thinking has been that it wouldn't be a whole lot better than that 58% just because you are dealing with high school kids. Granted you could see some good percentages for individuals and the percentages could be skewed on some teams by a few players more involved in the game and therefore shooting more free throws.

After the world was shocked by their loss to a grosly inferior Tiger team, the Hawks will be out to proove that noone in the district belongs in the same gym much less on the floor with the hawks. They will win by 30+! -
*#9 WOS @ #1 SILSBEE Broadcast*/SILSBEE WINS 70-63!
I don't see anyone in district going undefeated.
Thats really putting yourself out on a limb. Seeing as the Tigers and HF are the only ones with that possibility and noone thinks HF has a chance to run the table with for games remaining against the Tigers and Hawks. -
Silsbee 3 point shooting has been bad all years. With this many guards and no real size, they need to hit some of these to win playoff games.
I would say more streaky than bad. some decent games, some good, and some bad. -

I was a little concerned about the validity of the Navasota-Bowie and Bowie LaVega scores(seeing as they originally came from maxpreps) but they are also on the Austin Statesman website under Bowies scores both listed with boxscores. Navasotas paper showed the 64-28 loss but listed it as Austin Crockett. ALthough when looking at scores on the statesmans site you have to be careful. While looking at LaVegas they had several losses when you click on the score the boxscore adds the year to the date and they go back as far as 2009.

A lot of talk on the last shot being a good shot or a lucky shot, I will say this. It is a lot of luck but a better shooter will need a lot less luck than a not so good shooter. And as far as not practicing it, well from listening to Rob on the replay he said it was shot from the Tiger head. They can't truly practice that shot in that situation but I have seen these players at halftime of the jv game and other just shoot arounds shooting from those emblems. That helps that luck factor a little too. A little skill plus a good bit of luck and Zayon ended up being the hero.
Maybe so. Or maybe they would've stalled out the clock. Anyway, Silsbee won. I was wrong, I'm shocked by the loss, and I'm sure the HJ players will do all they can to give Silsbee a better run in-- hey, my man Nash, how many hours?
Next game will be different and hopefully just as good..and if they would have stalled the Tigers would have fouled and.........
-
Yes a good analysis although a couple points I am not in complete agreement with. First it may not be a major shock that the Tigers won but I don't think the Hawks comeback was a major shock either in fact when the Tigers had their 18 point lead I turned to those around me and said how the game was far from over and expected a comeback. And yes the free throws would be a big difference maker but I also feel the difference from the three point line was just as big.

VIDEO - Silsbee BUZZER BEATER shocks the Hawks

Thug was definitely the correct word to use describing the actions of a couple of Silsbee players, as well as some Silsbee fans. #1 -- It was not good enough for them to win, they felt the need to come across the court to celebrate in the faces of fans, and to take their shirts off, put up their fists (lick their thumbs no less), as if they wanted to fight. #2 -- This behavior went on the entire game. After a made shot, their players would clap in the face of HJ players, or scream in their face, or holler at the fans. More than anything I lost a ton of respect for the Silsbee coaching staff. I understand that you can only control how a high school athlete reacts to a certain extent, but the easy solution is to yank the kid from the game. Hopefully after playing against HJ a few more teams, this coach and these players from Silsbee will learn some class. Act like you've been there before.
I'll let your point #1 slide, although I believe it to be over stated. Your point #2 is pure BS! The Silsbee players were no more or no less exhuberiant after a score than were the Hawks. It is truly a phenomanon how each team's fans see the opposite sides of any given incidence or situation. Both teams have been there before - many times for both. Get rid of the tired cliche'. And, somehow I hope the Silsbee coaching staff can deal with the ton on respect that you lost for them. Where it counts, here in Silsbee, there was no loss of respect for anybody (including the Hawks team and their Coaches - always a class act). Why don't you act like you've been in a close game and lost before - it will help with your ulcers.
Very well stated TV. -
Shawn Prudhomme.....Is he the BEST in SETX this year?
ST413 replied to BADSANTA's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I was there and talked to people from both teams and none thought the foul was any more than a player trying to make a play. They felt Sean just fell awkwardly after the contact. -
Definitely but like I said for now its every team in district, I also said dont let up any time after that second game.
-
There is one thing I have noticed that hasn't been said yet in this conversation. First, I was proud of all the Tigers for their play last night, but I want to congratulate a couple for their performances both Jacob Dobbins and Patrick Read. The Tigers big men gave up a couple of inches to three of HJs starters and half a foot to a reserve, and they did a fantastic job down low fighting for rebounds and playing some good defense. Great job guys!!

All of this talk has led me to the conclusion that all you need to know is: you can forget about the 12-6 or 27-0 they mean nothing now. The thing that does matter is that the Tigers have the perfect record now, when it matters, and for now they are the ones every team in the district will be gunning for. And I know HJ will be even more focused in a couple weeks. So Tigers keep working and keep focused, don't ease off the pedal between now and then or at any time after.
