  1. Our true freshman pitcher went straight up against their Team USA invited, #1 pitcher Ryan Berry... SHSU has a bright future. And to think our true ace has been out with an injury since the beginning of the season that might put him out of playing next season...
  2. Wonder if she was offered before they had a "list of five finalists that includes Robert "Bo" Browder, head women’s coach at Xavier; Kevin Johnson, assistant men’s coach Nicholls State; Arrianna Smith-Martin, assistant professor Nicholls State; Mary "Dobee" Ronquillo-Plaisance, head women’s coach Loyola University; and Scott Stoecher, assistant women’s coach Louisiana Tech." This is what was in the Houma newspaper, where I got my information over a week ago. According to an interview I heard after the hire, Nicholls asked for permission to talk to Plaisance a month before the hiring took place. This is why I question that she was offered the job. Perhaps they asked to speak to Eaton and she did not want to interview for it? Nicholls is a better job than Wiley. If you can turn around Nicholls, you are going to go somewhere and get paid handsomely for it.
  3. She got offered the Nicholls job? Never saw her name associated with it. That's interesting. Nicholls by the way made a magnificent hire that got my attention. I'm a big fan of their new coach, seen her in action and met her on two or three occasions. She's going to be good for that program and if you do anything positive with them, you have a shot to take a bigger job. Good luck to her... Wiley College is a rough job. The previous coach was a former Rice Owl player by the way and is on what should be a solid staff at NT.
  4. I posted this on one board (won't say which in order to avoid embarrassment and no, not KatFans) and they fell for it. One guy even broke down the opposing team while another was confused why the dates had already passed without information being available to the fans...
  5. Baylor is going to be a nice destination for the Cards fans... [Hidden Content]
  6. Posted this earlier on your site...guess you missed it. Local Colleges: UTSA seeks 'green light' for football Web Posted: 05/17/2008 10:54 PM CDT By John Whisler [email protected] UTSA president Ricardo Romo expects approval of a business plan that could lead to the kickoff of Division I football at the school as early as 2011. If the plan is approved by University of Texas System Board of Regents next month, Romo said UTSA could start interviewing coaching candidates by this fall. “We could find someone who can't start right away,†Romo said. “Or, we may find a coach who says, ‘I'm there in September.'†[Hidden Content]
  7. Probably will in just a few weeks... ;D
  8. Lamar and Georgia State makes so much sense. They need teams on the slate. Lamar does too. If you guys can get a home-and-home, that'd be a perfect matchup. The atmosphere at that first Georgia State game should be nice and they're going to get strong media attention for their opener. Lamar needs to see if they can get South Alabama too (though the Jaguars are already recruiting some solid talent for their first squad). Woodard needs to get to filling the schedule and the SLC needs to announce what they plan on doing with Lamar coming in. 2011? Or 2012? Of course, the San Marcos 'situation' plays into this as well.
  9. Bearkats win...Mark Johnson now 8-0 as Sam skipper in the SLC tournament. We'll probably be going to College Station. Great game, Lamar. Props to you on a great season.
  10. Outside of Baker (Sr) and Duguay (Jr), all of the Kats critical arms are under-classmen. If the bats the Kats have coming in can get up to college level quickly, Kats should stick around near the top and have the program we used to have, a constant player in the SLC.
  11. Why did Erickson not pitch until now? Was he hurt or something? SHSU is playing some good baseball right now. I've been pleasantly surprised this weekend.
  12. Because SHSU won, the game is at noon since only one of these elimination games is needed.
  13. Championship Saturday schedule...winner of SLU and Lamar at noon plays SHSU at 45 minutes after the conclusion. Everyone can sleep in and guess what? We'll be done before MFFL and my bed time! FYI -- SHSU has pitched starters for all of 1 1/3 innings over three games. All of our bullpen guys are fresh and available. Please come over to KatFans.com if you make the championship game. Should have a good turnout on our board if we're playing for the NCAAs. Would love feedback from the Cards. Saturday, May 24 Game 13 - Noon - #7 Southeastern La vs #2 Lamar Game 14 - 3 PM - Sam Houston State vs Game 13 Winner (Championship Game) Also, being reported on KatFans.com... That there may have been a Gilligan incident this evening in which the SLC Commissioner had to "dress him down". [Hidden Content]
  14. You guys are opening this bracket up for SHSU even more. If the Kats can beat the Isles without much problems and Lamar has to play SLU again (as seems to be the case), SHSU would have the advantage over both squads. We got to take care of our business first though...
  15. UTSA/A&M-CC ended just now just shy of 3:45 p.m. Expecting a 4:30 p.m start with Cards/Lions.
  16. SLU scores four in the bottom of the ninth with the final batter getting plunked to score the runner from third. Game schedule is probably 30-35 minutes behind schedule. We'll see how it effects things the remainder of the day. Today's slate... Friday, May 23 Game 9 - #7 Southeastern La. 9-8 #3 Texas State-San Marcos (Texas State - San Marcos eliminated) Game 10 - 12 PM - #1 UTSA vs #8 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Game 11 - 4 PM - #2 Lamar vs #7 Southeastern La. Game 12 - 7 PM - #4 Sam Houston State vs Winner Game 10
  17. Everything is in the favor of our ball clubs to make the championship game right now. That'd be fun, especially if both of our teams get the win today and do not need to play a second game before that point. If either of our teams have to play two games prior to the championship game, the cards are in the hands of the team that does not. SHSU has the advantage right now having home-field advantage, having not had to go to the bullpen yet in the tournament and such. If you made a list of things that would be ideal for the Kats to win this tournament, you could go ahead and check them all off at this point. Today can change that as we could play 15 innings in a game and throw each guy out of our pen. You guys could do the same. No telling! Good luck today and again, please try to wrap your game up as quickly as possible so I'm not staying up too late!
  18. May be missing some more on the page, but that Van Der Walt name caught my eye... Editor's note: Following are the players who advanced out of local qualifying for the U.S. Open. The sectional qualifying round for the U.S. Open (June 12-15 at Torrey Pines Golf Club in San Diego) will be held on May 26 and June 2. There will be a total of 14 sectionals held across the globe to determine the non-exempt players who make the field. Houston, Texas, Lakeside Country Club: Jim Bob Jackson (Denton, Texas) 69, Dawie Van Der Walt (Beaumont, Texas) 69, Casey Wittenberg (Memphis, Tenn.) 69, Nicholas Cristea (Cypress, Texas) 70, Pablo Acuna (Guatemala) 71, Joseph Gullion (Humble, Texas) 71, Ryan Nelson (Dickinson, Texas) 71 and Ryan Baca (Richmond, Texas) 72. 19. Going to start about 35, 40 minutes late, eh? You guys play quick so I'm not up too late with SHSU in the nightcap!
  20. Since this thread is devoted to me...thanks ABR3 for giving me the floor... Just wanted to say the finish to that LU-SLU game was something else and hopefully is a sign of some good baseball to come. A&M-CC vs UTSA also had a strong ending with the tying run at the plate and we can all forget about the abysmal 9 AM game between some team from San Marcos and one from Arlington, who apparently just found out this AM that they were scheduled to play in the SLC tournament. And of course, SHSU is up 7-1 and three outs away from knocking off Northwestern State with a complete game performance from a freshman pitcher. Can't beat that.
  21. Your right, I did forget his time at Memphis. Of course, I also forgot to mention the reason for him leaving Memphis and McNeese. Those are two different, very interesting situations in themselves. The McNeese situation, I do not think anyone knows the true story to. That was a time of flux in Lake Charles.
  22. My boss told me that when I used to write about FCS football, I must have gotten paid by the word, because I always wrote a bit too much when the style is keep things short. Perhaps it's best that I got out of writing about FCS football as a columnist! I'll still waiting for the SLC to announce that Lamar will play in the league in 2011. My curiosity remains about the availability of space for Lamar to squeeze in on the schedules. There's a few schools that have games in 2011, some we know about, others we don't. Not sure how well the SLC and those involved planned for the possible addition of Lamar.
  23. How is that negative? I know you guys are going to play predominantly a Div II, Div III, NAIA schedule. Hope it's a Texas school. Abilene Christian would be good as that's an old rival of yours from the SLC days.
  24. FYI -- today is the 100 day mark til the Football Championship Subdivision begins play this year. Add 365 + 365 to that, you are looking at roughly 830 days til return of FCS. If LU football starts on Sat, Aug 28, 2010...you are looking at just 828 days til you play whichever Div II or NAIA school that is willing to come to Beaumont for the first game in school history.
