  1. Thread on D2 board about it... [Hidden Content]
  2. This will make UNLV scream... Thanks to JoshUCA for providing this article and it's definitely worth keeping an eye on for Southland schools and others in the region... Basically if the LSC rejects UIW, the President feels there is no other option than going Division I, particularly into the Southland. They can have the spot occupied by Texas State-San Marcos or UTSA, as one of them seems likely to leave the league. It'd keep the SLC in that area, though they'd have to pour even more money in... 3. SHSU has had fewer and fewer football athletes participate in track and field. I don't think we had any points at SLC from football players last year. SHSU is amazing in the sprints, even better in the relays (particularly on the women's side). You guys can have distance, but we'll take the sprints, relays and all the points we can get in the field. Big T&F news by the way -- they are looking into doing away with four regionals and just having two. It'll hurt SLC chances at getting folks at the national meet unless they perform at a higher level beforehand. ABR -- I would've conceded volleyball to you before the match! Was almost tempted to post the score right away, but Bearkat football started around the same time...soccer on the other hand may be interesting!
  4. Guess you haven't seen the tennis recap yet? Our #1 beat both of your Guttierez on way to the top singles flight victory! Thought I hear one of them was sick...our #1s also won doubles. We'll have to get production below them if we want to beat LU when it matters. Bearkat41 agreed with me that SHSU is a one trick pony. One solid girl on the attack, but Lamar was able to shut her down. When you got everyone zoning in on her and having two people up for the block each time she goes on the attack, someone needs to step up? Just no one to help... VB and WBB are the two sports where we have struggled, we'll have the Cards number in track and field... as always! Hopefully golf this year with the SLC's top golfer back this year after missing all last year following surgery...
  5. Road wins in football, basketball and even, baseball are exciting. When you go to those facilities, you have to expect ridiculous level of officiating and we've seen what should have been blowouts get called closely and unfairly... SLC is like 26-0 thus far through soccer, volleyball and football against the SWAC. SWAC hasn't even gotten a set off of the SLC in volleyball. It's not pretty this year...
  6. Not sure of many programs that would do that...and why bring more attention an issue? May be a lot more to it than you realize, either for the player or the school, if not both. This, speaking from experience on said issue from the "they" perspective... ;D You never know what's going to happen until you see the final roster on opening night...
  7. There's plenty of swimming duals and meets in this part of the country. Not so many for men's squads, but with women, an ever increasing amount. I actually PA announce some NCAA Division I swimming among other things, so a bit more familiar with the sport than you'd think. Figured we were good for wins against the SWAC schools on our schedule and possibly even Lamar...
  8. Where've you been MFFL? Thought you were a big Southland guy... Outside of back in the day with women's hoops -- bass fishing is SFA's "bread and butter". They're always in the mix for national titles, believe they have one or two to their name. They even are right down the water from Lewisville, Texas where they are hosting the 2009 edition.
  9. Almost got beat by the SFA #2 team at the national collegiate bass fishing tournament...you guys going to seek out a new coach? Is this guy on the hot seat or what? Is losing to TAMU-Kingsville and Faulkner acceptable for the Cardinal faithful? I really had Lamar as a top 10 program this year. 2008 NATIONAL COLLEGIATE BASS FISHING TOURNEY FINAL STANDINGS - RANK COLLEGE ANGER 1 ANGLER 2 # of FISH WEIGHT Day 3 Weight 1 Arkansas Kazuki Kitajima Bodie Drake 10 31.49 17.37 2 Texas A&M Justin Rackley Andy Shafer 10 31.49 16.00 3 Texas Tech Ryan Dupriest Laramie Coggan 10 31.36 11.98 4 Texas A&M - Kingsville Jerod Hawkes Daniel Brock 10 27.81 11.17 5 Baylor Jay Holland Chris Gass 10 26.83 3.34 6 Faulkner Kyle Tindol Michael Eubanks 9 26.54 7 Northwestern State Zack Gagnard Paul Rini 10 25.80 8 Murray State Dan Langton Cory Carr 10 25.77 9 Stephen F. 10. Travel partners in swimming? Only if UNLV knew a thing or two about the sport... ;D
  11. Is Houston an exhibition? Nov. 6 -- you can't play basketball that early, can you? I think Nov 14 is when things get rolling...hence, the Grambling season opener (per the article). Houston may be a closed-door scrimmage, must be -- doubt two Div I teams would play an exhibition unless someone is doing a favor for someone. Just makes no sense...but what do I know? ** UPDATE ** -- Houston does not list the game, but a Nov. 14 game against SLU as their opener. It must be closed door and a mistake to have on the schedule... [Hidden Content]
  12. One of the better CSTV sites I have seen. Very clean, professional... The folks in San Marcos and College Station need to clean up their CSTV web sites...
  13. Where are they located and what classification are they? Div II, Div III? NAIA? Not sure why SHSU has not scheduled them before, they a new school?
  14. SFA just added! SHSU in the fold already... [Hidden Content] Robert Hill is on board for saying we got to get the SLC behind this and getting four more schools...your turn, Lamar!
  15. Yep -- unlike the other Lamar schools which are components of Lamar University, there's no city. Here's the official listing of school names and let's make sure to throw in that "-San Marcos" in for that school that fought so hard to get that in there... * Lamar University * Sam Houston State University * Sul Ross State University * Sul Ross State University Rio Grande College * Texas State University-San Marcos * Lamar Institute of Technology * Lamar State College-Orange * Lamar State College-Port Arthur
  16. I think it's Oct 17 or thereabouts...
  17. Whataburger has been a sponsor of SHSU athletics in the past -- perhaps they can do a special on breakfast taquitos. Those things will put some weight on a person! I miss them here in NOLA...closest one is outside of Baton Rouge.
  18. Yep -- apparently some quality baseball players. They went a bit higher than I think they thought they were going to go...
  19. Wonder where SHSU stood as far as baseball recruiting goes before we lost two HS players to the top 12 rounds of the MLB draft and believe lost another one a bit later...
  20. Rule of thumb from what I've been told in the ticketing business is you put up single-game tickets a month before the season. Could delay the beginning of single-game ticket sales if you wait any longer on renewals....
  21. What if you guys are going to be in the hole big time with football, that you need to add both bowling and softball? Bowling is the cheapest one and can be added first. Softball includes a stadium and all that riff-raff that make it harder. Best thing about bowling is that SHSU is adding bowling! We could use Lamar. It'd add to the "South States Bowling Alliance" I'd like to see with Arkansas State, Tulane, La Tech, SHSU and hopefully Lamar! Heck, let's add Vanderbilt to the list too...this would provide for a "conference tournament" and a group of schools willing to host tournaments and invite the others...because really, the HBCUs (MEAC and SWACs) dominate the bowling scene.
  22. ABR3, what do you know? I saw we beat out Air Force and Tulane among others for him, but what's his story?
  23. Congrats LU! Team is getting better and better. SLC play is right around the corner. I know a few of the SLC schools are working on getting makeup dates for some of those Ike/Gustav impacted dates. With more matches in a shorter time frame during SLC play, interested to see how that impacts play.
  24. LU did what they were supposed to do...beat up on a weak field! Tyler JC may have been the best team in the field outside of LU. SFA and ULM are not exactly tennis powers by any stretch, both would fall in the bottom half of the SLC standings. Same goes for McNeese. But let me tell you -- Gutierrez #1 is a legit Div I solid as can be player and #2 may be as well. The big test comes at the ITA Regionals for you non-tennis folks. That comes in a few weeks at TCU. The men play at A&M about the same time. Best players in the region -- we'll learn a little more about your Cards. Nice way to start off the season...I think this year, SLC makes some more noise nationally than we have in the past. More than likely as individuals, not teams.
  25. Perhaps with Southland TV, a few of these attractive mid-major games (I can see NT vs SHSU easily) will get televised...the game against Wisc-Milwaukee in H'ville two years ago got on ESPN's family of networks (ERT, I believe). The Texas Tech game of course got the most pub and we coupled it with the TSUS Board of Regents quarterly meeting, so they got to see how big hoops is at SHSU. What are your guys thoughts on SLC TV's basketball slate? Probably won't see many OOC because no one has decent schedules at home, but you guys thinking we'll see a "Game of the Week" in SLC?
