  1. I have officiated HS football and baseball for years. Fans, coaches, players have all gotten out of hand with belittling umpires. We could care less, what teams are playing and do the best we can to call a fair game. I have a great job and make more money than most, at my regular job. So officiating HS sports is a hobby that most of us take seriously. We are going to make mistakes in both sports, but nothing is ever intentional. We have always had shortages of officials and its 100 percent due to parents and coaches totaling bashing us for the 3 hours they have on the field. Some of TASO officials work 4-5 nights a week to make sure we have some sort of coverage for your games. We spend time away from our families because we love the game and not necessarily for the money. Sometimes I wish that I could walk away from officiating, but guilt sets in when there are 2 teams, 1 driving 45 minutes away to get to a game, only to have no official show up do officiate the game. I have been the only official on the field for a 9th grade and even a JV game only to have coaches screaming at the top of their lungs, about a hold that I didn't see. Anyways, if we had more of the fan base, put on some stripes, and take on some of these games, you might get a better called game due to officials just not being overworked. Thanks for listening.
  2. Already am upset in week 1. Manvel 6-5 upsets Hightower 9-2 with a final score of 23-15
  3. Correct me if I am wrong, don't the coaches agree on the crew way in advance? Both coaches have to agree, correct? So, coaches probably picked what they thought were the best available for the game. Might have used them in the past and had good luck with the crew. Without the instant replay in HS football, officiating will play a factor. Calls like this could be reviewed and get it right, like they do in NCAA. But that would cost money and dont think we are there yet for HS regular season games!
  4. Rule for telling kids they cant wear RED gloves if the opposing team is wearing red? No UIL rule for this at all.
  5. You think so? That is a ton of people. Hell maybe it would. IDK. Just IMO smaller venue, packed stands, right on top of the action, seems like a better feel just IMO. Look up and see NO empty seats.
  6. This game wouldn't attract 40k people so perfect setting in a really nice stadium! Will have an incredible HS feel!
  7. Fill us in. What happened on 2 pt conversion?
  8. I believe there is quite the shortage of officials across the state. With all of the expert officials we have on the SETX message board, you should be able to put together quite the crew! Hahahahaha
  9. Happy for HISD. These kids work hard like everyone else. Some tough circumstances they have to mud through. Good luck!
  10. No notice. Teams show up to play the game at the scheduled start time and if its delayed, they wait around... Porter will be pushing to play this game in the rain. Pray no lightning. Everyone be safe!
  11. There is NO WAY Porter would agree to that after the PAM game. PAM coaches knew exactly what they were doing. Rain is in Porters favor 100% .
  12. Looks like this game is gonna be played tonight! Good luck to both sides. Rain should push on out in a few hours.
  13. NS 2nd and 3rd teams get time in the 4th. NS by 24. They are on a totally different level gents. Safe travels to all this week., tomorrow especially with the weather.
  14. As long as there is NO lightning, lets get it on! lol I could see a delayed start if it looks like weather will be clearing.
