1.
LU has never released roster or schedule until the school year begins in late August or early September.
Exactly.  It has actually been refreshing to have the coach actually announce signings and inform the public of the guys that won't be returning.  With the exception of last season, we were kept completely in the dark until September.
2. I'm not saying Rodney Terry is the right guy for our program, but remember Larry Tidwell was a career assistant also.  I trust Tidwell to evaluate all of the potential candidates and give LU the best chance of success in the future.  That being said, I really like what I see in Cross and Skelton.
3.

I bet it will be Tic Price!!!
Why promote someone from a staff that didn't get it done?  If it's to save money my comment is two words, Tony Branch.
I like Tic Price, but we need a new direction.  If Tic is part of the equation they might as well keep Roccaforte for the final year of his contract.
4. I'd like to see Bubba Skelton in the mix too. Don Skelton Men's Head Coach Junior college coaching veteran Don "Bubba" Skelton returns for his third season as head men's basketball coach at Jones County Junior College. In his first season in 2008-09, Skelton piloted the Bobcats to a 24-5 record and their first MACJC state championship since the 1945-46 season. It was the fifth overall state championship for the Bobcats. The Bobcats, who also won the MACJC South Division crown, advanced to the Region 23 Tournament and were ranked as high as No. 19 in the nation at one point. Skelton was named the MACJC Co-Coach of the Year for his success that season. Last year, the Bobcats compiled a 17-10 record and advanced to the semifinals of the Region 23 Tournament. Skelton came to Jones after two years as an assistant coach at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. The Cardinals went 19-11 and tied for the Southland Conference crown in his final season at Lamar. Skelton coached at JCJC from 1988-90, serving as an assistant coach under Marc Dukes. From there, he became the head basketball coach and head baseball coach at Lafayette County High School in Oxford in 1990-91 and was head basketball coach at Monroe High School in Tompkinsville, Ky., for five years. Skelton served as head coach at Southwest Mississippi Community College from 1997-99, leading the Bears to a 22-9 record and a berth in the state and regional tournament in 1997-98. He then became head coach at Northwest Mississippi Community College from 1999-2006 and enjoyed even more success. Skelton compiled a 198-56 record (.779) and led the Rangers to five Region 23 titles, five District 16 titles, two MACJC state titles and five MACJC North Division crowns. Skelton has compiled a 363-176 (.674) overall record as a head coach. He has four region championships, five North state titles, one South state title and three MACJC state crowns to his credit. He is a five-time Region Coach of the Year and a four-time MACJC Coach of the Year. Skelton, a native of Leland, was a four-year letterman at Mississippi College and played in every game during his career with the Choctaws. He was third in the Gulf South Conference in assists as a senior and was an All-Gulf South Conference Academic team selection in 1986 and 1987. He served as a graduate assistant at Mississippi College in 1987-88 before coming to JCJC as an assistant coach. Skelton is married to the former Tammy Pryor of Ellisville and they have one son, Trey.
5. I know there hasn't been an announcement yet, but it seems inevitable that a change will be made soon.  I just hope whatever is done, the announcement is made quickly to allow Roc to move on to another school and land a new coach early enough to get the best recruits possible.  I know Alvin Brooks is a possibility and Pat Knight is now available.  I also know many on the board think BCG is our future.  I'm pretty intrigued by Rodney Terry.  If he is interested I would think he would be a top contender for the job. His resume is pretty strong and he is a Texas guy who has run the recruiting roads for years.  I know recruiting at UT is far different from LU, just like Memphis was far different.  I'm not saying he is the best fit for the job, but I'd like to see him in the mix. Full name: Rodney Eric Terry Hometown: Angleton, Texas High School: Angleton HS College: St. Edward's '90 9th season at Texas Rodney Terry begins his ninth season as an assistant coach at The University of Texas. In his first eight years in Austin, Terry has helped the Longhorns post a 204-72 (.739) record while making eight NCAA Tournament appearances. Texas has made four "Sweet 16" showings during his eight years, including a trip to the Final Four in 2003 and the "Elite Eight" in both 2006 and 2008. The 204 wins mark a tie for the most number of victories in an eight-year period in school history. UT has produced 20-win seasons in each of Terry's eight years. During this stretch, a total of 10 McDonald's All-Americans have made their way to the UT campus (Brad Buckman, 2002; LaMarcus Aldridge, 2004; Daniel Gibson, 2004; Mike Williams, 2004; D.J. Augustin, 2006; Kevin Durant, 2006; Jai Lucas, 2007; Avery Bradley, 2009; Cory Joseph, 2010; Tristan Thompson, 2010). Despite a class that numbered only two, the current UT freshman class of Joseph and Thompson was ranked as the No. 8 recruiting class in the country by ESPN. Texas' three-man freshman class in 2009 was ranked No. 3 nationally by Rivals.com and No. 4 by ESPNU. UT's seven-man freshman class in 2006 was tabbed the No. 3 recruiting class in the nation by both Rivals.com and Scout.com. Texas' five-man freshman class in 2004 featured three McDonald's All-Americans (Aldridge, Gibson and Williams) and was tabbed the No. 1 class in the nation by Clark Francis' Hoop Scoop. During the last five seasons, Texas has posted a combined 133-46 (.743) record, setting the mark for most wins at UT in a five-year period. UT climbed to the top of both major national polls (Associated Press, ESPN/USA Today Coaches) on Jan. 11, 2010, marking the first time in program history that the Horns had been the top-ranked team in the nation in either major poll. Texas held the top spot in both polls for a two-week stretch. UT set a school record for most wins in a season (31-7) in 2007-08. While using a starting rotation of four freshmen and a sophomore in 2006-07, the Horns posted a 25-10 mark and advanced to the NCAA Second Round. In 2005-06, Texas registered a 30-7 record and advanced to the NCAA "Elite Eight." Texas is the only school in the country that can claim two National Player of the Year winners in the last eight years, T.J. Ford (2003) and Kevin Durant (2007). UT has had three consensus first-team All-Americans during Terry's time as an assistant (T.J. Ford in 2003, Kevin Durant in 2007 and D.J. Augustin in 2008), and Augustin claimed the Bob Cousy Award as the nation's top point guard in 2008. Texas has had 10 players drafted in the eight years under Terry, including six first-round selections and four lottery picks in T.J. Ford, LaMarcus Aldridge, Kevin Durant and D.J. Augustin. Both Aldridge (2006) and Durant (2007) were selected as the No. 2 overall picks in their respective drafts. In fact, UT became the first school to have a Top Two pick in consecutive NBA Drafts since DePaul in 1981-82. When Augustin was selected as the No. 9 pick by the Charlotte Bobcats in the 2008 NBA Draft, it completed quite a three-year run for the Longhorns at the Draft. Texas was the only school in the nation to have a Top 10 pick in the 2006, 2007 and 2008 NBA Drafts. In fact, UT became just the fourth school since 1985 (when the current draft lottery system was implemented) to produce a lottery pick in three consecutive years. Georgia Tech (1989-91), Duke (1992-95) and Connecticut (2004-06) previously accomplished the feat. Texas had three players selected during the 2010 NBA Draft. Avery Bradley was selected with the No. 19 pick by the Boston Celtics. Damion James was taken with the No. 24 pick by the Atlanta Hawks, and his rights were later traded to the New Jersey Nets. Dexter Pittman was chosen with the No. 32 pick (second selection in the second round) by the Miami Heat. This marked the second time in school history that the Horns had three players selected in the same draft (2006) and the second time in UT history that the Longhorns had two players taken in the first round of the same draft (1990). In the classroom, Texas had five players earn a spot on the 2010 Academic All-Big 12 Conference Men's Basketball Team. This marked the third straight year that the Horns led the league in Academic All-Big 12 honors in the sport of men's basketball. UT had six players earn the accolade in both 2008 and 2009. Terry joined Rick Barnes' staff on June 11, 2002. For seven weeks prior to coming to Texas, Terry served on Jerry Wainwright's staff at the University of Richmond after spending the previous four seasons under Wainwright at UNC-Wilmington. While at UNC-Wilmington, Terry was instrumental in helping the program produce three postseason appearances in his four seasons. The Seahawks advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 1999-2000 and 2001-02 and reached the Postseason NIT in 2000-01. During his final year with the Seahawks (2001-02), UNCW posted a 23-10 overall mark, setting a school record for victories in a season. The Seahawks also collected their first NCAA Tournament win in school history, upsetting USC 98-89 in overtime in a First Round game. UNCW registered a record of 71-51 (.582) during Terry's four seasons. In his second year, Terry helped the Seahawks land a Top 30 recruiting class according to Hoop Scoop. In 2001-02, Terry was named the co-mid/low-major Assistant Coach of the Year by TheInsiderHoops.com, sharing the honor with Valparaiso's Scott Drew (now the head coach at Baylor). Prior to joining the staff at UNCW, Terry served two years as an assistant coach at Baylor (1996-98). He spent one season (1995-96) as the varsity coach at Angleton (Texas) High School and two years as the head coach at Somerville (Texas) High School. Terry posted a 15-13 mark at Angleton and a 49-21 overall record at Somerville, where he led the school to the Class 2A state semifinals in 1993-94. He also worked for two years (1991-93) as an assistant coach at Austin Bowie (Texas) High School. Terry started his coaching career as an assistant coach at his alma mater, St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas. He worked for one season (1990-91) at St. Edward's before moving on to his post at Bowie High. Terry graduated from St. Edward's University in 1990 with a bachelor's degree in business administration and a minor in physical education. During his collegiate career, he was a three-year starter at point guard and a three-time Academic All-Big State Conference selection. The Hilltoppers won the Big State Conference title during his freshman season in 1986-87, and he also served as team captain during his junior and senior campaigns. Born March 27, 1968, Terry is a native of Angleton, Texas.
6. I don't think that scenario will ever play out.  However, I would like to see  the assistants more involved in gametime adjustments.  In my opinion, the best in game adjustments and timeout coaching during the Roc era came when Skelton was allowed to be more involved in timeouts.
7. This is the first women's game I've been to this year and I was really impressed with our play.  We had a few bad turnovers, but I attribute that to the quickness of UH.  Kalis Lloyd and Jenna Plumley are our best players, but I was really impressed with Ang Green's play in the second half.  Great game.  I will also confess I left after the women's game.  I don't ever recall doing that in the past.  I'll be there Saturday too.
8. It would be great if football fans would incorporate the women's game into their tailgating plans for saturday and fill up the Montagne.
9. I thought the play calling was questionable near the goal line also.  However, I'm happy with another ugly win.  Frankly, we are one win better than I anticipated at this point in the season and we played McNeese close.  None of you naysayers who know anything projected any better than this prior to the season.  Lets enjoy what is happening.  The atmosphere in the tailgating and game is better than anything I've ever seen associated with Lamar University.  Undoubtedly, our guys are going to take some knocks in upcoming games, but thats what we thought would happen when this schedule was announced.  Congratulations to the defense for their first shutout.  Go LU
10. Leonard was a nice guy and a good family man.  Peace to his family.
11. I'm interested in acquiring parking passes to: 10/9 Langston 10/16 South Alabama 11/13 South Dakota I'm in a tailgating group, but we are using our spaces for gathering people rather than parking. If you happen to have two parking spaces together I would take two.  Send me a message and let me know your price. Thanks
12. SOLD, THANKS SETX I have 4 tickets for the homecoming game against Langston on October 9th. These are $20 tickets, but I will sell all 4 for $70. They are Section W202, Row 21, Seats 3,4,5 &6. These are my season tickets, but I will be sitting in other seats for this game. Send me a message if you're interested.
13. Thanks, talk about quick response.  I'll be posting something on there shortly.
14.

I would like to thank all of the Cardinal tailgaters that came by our area and said hello this past weekend. We had a wonderful time and with the amount of food around us, there was no way of leaving hungry. It felt like we were on the surface of the sun; however we would not have missed this event for anything. We look forward to the next home game and invite all to swing by and say hello. We are in the Montagne Parking lot. Look for the American Air Systems van and 3 Flags and you will find us. Go cards
Had several people ask me where I got the stadium seats I purchased from you guys.  Maybe you will  sell a few more.
Those stadium seats are real back savers.  Didn't make it by your tent this weekend, but sure did enjoy your cooking in Lake Charles.  Looking forward to stopping by your place to pick up some LU chairs when you get them in.
15.
Is he not the younger brother of current LU player and Aggie transfer Billy Chavis?
Yes he is.
16. This is an excellent step for soccer in our area.  Congratulations to all involved in making this happen.  Cris was such a great supporter of youth soccer and this is yet another way that his legacy will live on.
17. I would be perfectly happy with replacing the entire roster with the exception of Custer, Minor, Brown, Miles and Harper.  Ok, I guess I wouldn't mind seeing Harris come back.  Nothing against the rest of the players, but I just don't think they can get it done.
18. That blender is awesome.  I want that bad boy.  Very cool items.  I'll be ordering some swag for sure.  Hey Chris, I'm still down for the TG spot, just keep forgetting to stop by your office. I'll do it next week.
19. I like what I see in this recruiting class.  Talk about an overhaul of the team.  8 recruits and only 3 graduating.  I believe Roc has rightfully given up on a bunch of players.  I hope this group is not as disappointing as the last couple of recruiting classes.  Otherwise, the overhaul next year will be in the coaching staff.
20. I was thinking about Quinn Snyder earlier today.  This is a guy who has played and coached at Duke.  He did great things at Missouri before he ran into some player trouble.  Now he is coaching the Austin Toros in the Developmental League.  This a guy who needs another chance and would be an interesting possibility. On a side note, it is a shame that the most LU hoops buzz on this site in the last two years revolves around the possible end of the Roc regime.  This speaks volumes about the mindset of the fan base.
21. How about this guy.  They have done some good things at Baylor during his tenure. Mark Morefield's association with Scott Drew dates back 16 years, including the last six seasons at Baylor. Morefield is in his seventh season serving as the Bears' recruiting coordinator and assistant coach, and his duties include handling the offense, supervising individual workouts and scouting. The Bears became a national media staple during the 2008-09 season as the program set several new school records. Baylor posted back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time in school history, while advancing to its first Big 12 Championship title game, only to fall to Missouri. During its improbable postseason run, Baylor became the first No. 9 seed to advance to the Big 12 Championship title game. Baylor's 2008-09 squad did something the 2007-08 Bears were unable to accomplish - win a postseason game. The Bears advanced to the NIT championship game with a semfinal win over San Diego State at Madison Square Garden before falling to Penn State in the title game. Baylor played a school-record 39 games, including a school-record 34 on television. Nineteen of those 34 games were televised nationally - 18 on the ESPN family of networks. Prior to the 2008-09 season, Baylor had played just 14 games on the ESPN family of networks in the previous 11 seasons. In 2007-08, Morefield and the Bears rose to national prominence when Baylor made its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1988. The Bears finished with a 21-11 overall record after a first-round loss to 18th-ranked Purdue, marking the fourth 20-win season in school history. A proven recruiter, Morefield has twice been named one of the nation's top 25 recruiters by Rivals.com, in 2005 and 2006. Morefield has contributed to the signing of five top 20 national recruiting classes over the past eight years, two at Valparaiso and four at Baylor (No. 17 in 2009, No. 17 in 2006, No. 11 in 2005 and No. 10 in 2004 at Baylor; No. 6 in 2001 and No. 13 in 1999 at Valparaiso). PRIOR TO BAYLOR A product of the Valparaiso basketball program, Morefield spent 2002-03 as an assistant during Drew's one season as Valpo's head coach. The previous four seasons, the two were fellow assistants on the Valparaiso staff of Homer Drew, Scott's father. Morefield logged a total of nine seasons with Valparaiso basketball, the last five as an assistant coach. In those five years, Valpo went to three NCAA Tournaments and one NIT. Morefield served as Valpo's administrative assistant coach in 1998-99 and as a student assistant during the 1996-97 and 1997-98 campaigns after working as a team manager as a freshman and sophomore. He was part of the staff that guided Valpo to Mid-Continent Conference regular season championships and tournament championships in 1998-99 and 2001-02, as well as regular season titles in 2000-01 and 2002-03 and a tournament title in 2000. In the summer of 1999, Morefield was an assistant coach for an Athletes In Action team that toured Poland and Croatia. Morefield was also an assistant coach for an AIA team that played on the Ivory Coast of Africa in 2001. Players on those AIA teams included Milo Stovall of Valpo, Dan Dickau of Gonzaga, Ryan Sears of Creighton, Solomon Hughes of California, Billy Knight of UCLA, Reed Rawlings of Samford and Doc Martin of Alabama. In addition to his duties at Valpo in 1997-98, Morefield served as freshman basketball coach and varsity assistant at Michigan City High School in Indiana. In the summers of 1996 and 1997 he worked basketball camps at Notre Dame and Michigan. Morefield also served as the director of the Valparaiso boys basketball camps. PERSONAL Morefield graduated from Valparaiso in 1998 with a Bachelor of Arts in an individualized major with a course concentration in sports marketing. He was married to the former Danika Brock in September 2007.
22. It is time for a change.  Nothing against Roc, but one more year will only prolong the agony we are all suffering.  He will land on his feet as an assistant somewhere.    Come on Jimmy and Billy, make us excited about LU hoops again.
23. I think it is 50/50 that he is back next year.  If I'm Roc I would be putting my name out there as an assistant with a bigger program.  Maybe he'll take a hike before he gets fired.  I have been a big Roc supporter in the past, but I'm totally disappointed in the state of our basketball program.  I'm ready for a change and waiting another year will just prolong the agony.  I think it is time to make a move.
24. I doubt Roc will be let go after this season because of the youth on the roster and also because a great deal of attention is focused on football right now.  I am shocked at the lack of interest in LU basketball this year.  I have fallen prey to the same apathy.  I have missed more games this year than any year in the last 15 since I have been back in Beaumont. Does anybody else think about the departure of Bubba Skelton after the 07-08 season as the beginning of the downward spiral of the the Roc regime.  Skelton was the Mississippi connection that brought the best talent of the Roc era.  The last Skelton recruit that I am aware of is Nabors who is our best player. Beyond recruiting I thought Skelton was a great bench coach who didn't mind disagreeing with Roc.  How many times during his tenure did we see him directing the team during critical time outs while Roc watched over his shoulder or screamed at refs. I like our group of assistants personally, but none have shown they can bring in kids with the talent of the Skelton recruits and none have been able or willing to step into the fray to help Roc make better decisions during games. All that being said, I hope we win out and make some kind of a run in the conference tournament.  However, I am not optimistic
25. I have a family wedding tomorrow night so I won't be there.  Although I have to agree with the sentiments of some of the others, I have lost my stoke for this team and this coach.  I'll be there when I can, but I'm not very excited about this season.  I hope I am proven wrong.
