  1. This articl shows how many of us have selective memory regarding the glory days. We choose to remember the few times there were large crowds, but forget the typical attendance was not much better than we have right now. Hopefully, that can be changed with the success that I believe this team will have in the next few years. We should all be inviting friends to games and giving unused tickets to potential fans. Somehow people in this area need to be enlightened about the entertainment value in going to these games. By the way, don't some of you guys do some tailgating? I'd like to get involved in that this year. I think more tailgating activity could possibly lure the non-fans that want to eat a little food and have a little drink in a party atmosphere prior to the games.
  2. This was a well played game by LCM. I enjoyed it despite the cold temperature.
  3. Lamar by 3. This will be a tough game, but LU will prevail because of superior senior leadership at crunch time.
  4. I didn't see many games in the late 80s and early 90s because I lived in Houston, but KD is the best PG I have seen in a Lamar uniform. Alvin Brooks was great, but I give Kenny the nod as a better all around player. I would further state Kenny is THE BEST PLAYER Lamar has had this decade. Yeah, I know Daniels was special, but I'd build a team around Kenny ahead of Daniels.
  5. There should be some form of "Pack the House" promotion for this game. I'm hoping for 5000, but would love to see us hit 6000+ on a consistent basis.
  6. I heard as of yesterday afternoon there were only 3500 tickets sold including season tickets. It woul be a stretch to think there will be more than 3000 tickets sold between yesterday and game time. I really, really hope I'm wrong but I'm going under.
  7. When I read Coachacola's post regarding his wife's birthday I was reminded of missing a LU v. Western Kentucky Game due to my wedding anniversary. I recall turning on the radio in my car and hearing Dave make the call of Matt Sundblad hitting a three to win the game in double or triple overtime. I just googled Matt's name and found an anesthesiologist in Iowa City, Iowa named Matthew Sundblad. It seems like Matt was a pre-med major. I know he was an Academic All American and close to a 4.0 student. Does anybody know if our Matt Sundblad is now a doctor in Iowa? He was a great player, great student and a credit to the LU program.
  8. Just trying to stoke the fire a bit guys. Not trying to be controversial, but pointing out that in general TT fans don't believe we are a formidable opponent.

No respect at all: dragondawgAll Star 3987 posts this site Send Private Message Posted: 12/9/2008 11:04 AM RE: Lamar, 6-1 before tonight [losing only at Kentucky] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Per Lamar vs Lousville Lamar is a quick undersized team. Louisville is a lanky and quicker team. Lamar had big problems with a Louisville press that tries to deny the dribble after the first, second, and third pass before falling back into a man to man. TT's press seems to back off after the second pass is made. Lamar's preferred offense is a fast break drive to the basket. When forced into a half court offense they have two main sets: Double high post, and a high-low post. If they start in the double high, and the ball goes to one of the posts, then the other will roll or flash down to the low post. The quickness of Louisville negated any cuts to the basket by the post. The other set of high low, uses the high post to pass, and set screens, with the guards flair cutting, trying to get open for 3s. The only problem is that they do not set good screens, or shoot 3s well. Spacing is poor, although a lot of that may have been caused by Louisville. Lamar on defense played man to man, and was weak underneath. Louisville repeatedly drove just below the elbow into the lane for close in easy shots. They also keep Lamar honest on defense by hitting a few 3s. Over all a total mismatch type of game. Over all Lamar was a weak team in the Lousville game. Or maybe just a tired team? They have a 7 man rotation per the stats. I would have guessed 8 based on the game. Tech has more depth. Keys for Tech... On defense get back on the fast break, and take away the fast drive to the bucket. Make them prove they can hit the 3 on a fast break. Take away any pick and roll play with their 2 post set, and again force their offense out to the 3 pt line. Block out on the boards, as Lamar is a fiesty group. On offense Tech should dominate. No reason why Roberts and Singletary can't have big games mimicing the Louisville strategy of driving across the lane close in. Voskhul and Roberson should have plenty of opportunities for open 3s. This is also one of these games where Lew should be fed in order to gain confidence. No reason why he can't also have a big game. It should be a high scoring game with Tech easily winning. Cook has another solid performance with a couple blocks and 8 boards. Roberson ends the game with 18 and 7 assists. Darko and Prince have a solid performance and between them grab 8 boards. 11. I'm impressed by the level of promotion of the game at Lamar if all of this is true. I'm hoping for 7000 at the game.
  12. The Rice facility was a complete disappointment other than the scoreboard. Their dance squad was also a disappointment. I guess it is hard to find the combination of perfect SAT, dance skills and hotness. However, I saw some things I really liked during the game. Jay Brown is going to be the player we were hoping he would be last year. Worrell is meeting my expectations as a hadworking player with a soft touch from 10 ft. and in. Skylar Williams is a helluva defensive player and rebounder for his size. His offensive skills are still a question mark. However, he gave us much more energy and quickness than Hall has provided. Miles was not a factor last night, but I think that was partially due to the performance of Williams. I felt like our best lineup was Dawkins, McThay, Williams, Worrell and Brown. I'm pulling for Hall and Custer to make big improvements, but I'm not convinced it will happen. I'd love to see Nwevo healthy, but he doesn't appear to be improving. Dawkins had a subpar night, but he is still the best player on the team. Finally, the beer at Buffalo Wild Wings in the Rice Village was ice cold just the way I like it.
  13. Let me know if there is room for anotha brotha. The buddy I was going with backed out. By the way, surf was fun today.
  14. What a great match. I'm digging the Southland Conference Television coverage. I went to the match between LU and Tx. St in Beaumont and these were two evenly matched teams on both occasions. Congrats to the Cards.
  15. My understanding is that Miles was in the car, but not injured. Harper has soft tissue whiplash type symptoms. It could be 2 weeks or 6 weeks.
  16. Roc didn't know at the time. Sounds like you don't want to put any faith in me and my breaking news...sheez! I haven't been wrong yet ;D Well whose injured? I hear Harper got whiplash in a car accident and will be out as long as six weeks. Nabors was also in the car, but I don't think he was injured.
  17. Academy's Kirby adjusting to college Midfielder helps Denver clinch conference title, NCAA berth By onathan Yardley / HoustonDynamo.com Former Dynamo Academy star Matt Kirby is now plying his trade for the University of Denver. (Rich Clarkson & Assoc.) Print this | E-mail this • More Dynamo Youth Development The first season of college soccer has not always been an easy one for Dynamo Academy product Matt Kirby. One of the Academy's leading exports, Kirby has had to deal with the challenge that faces many high school stars -- fitting into a different role on his college team. But he has stuck with it and appeared in 15 of 16 games for the University of Denver this season. His most tangible contribution yet came Saturday afternoon, when Kirby set up senior Joey Mathot for the game-winning goal in the 72nd minute, helping the Pioneers clinch their first Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championship and an automatic berth in the NCAA tournament. Kirby played only 13 minutes in the match as a substitute but made a big difference in his limited time. "I haven't been getting as much time as I have wanted," Kirby admitted earlier this season. "It's just that you don't play as much as a freshman until you show how you can play. It is tough as a freshman to get in there and show what you can do." Kirby has made four starts this season, but Denver head coach Bobby Muuss said the biggest key to earning more playing time is increasing his work rate as a two-way player. "The biggest thing not only for Matthew, but for the other guys, is the way our wide midfielders play: We defend a lot," Muuss said. "Matt came from a system where he almost played a little bit more of a 4-3-3, where he was a winger and a forward, so I think he is seeing the adjustment a little bit that way. As long as he continues to do the right things on and off the field, he is going to have a great college career." Dynamo Director of Youth Development James Clarkson said Kirby's adjustment period, while not ideal, is typical for players transitioning from youth soccer to the faster, more physical college game. "It goes for all of them," Clarkson said. "The adjustment is quite big. It's the leaving home, being the youngest guy on the team, traveling, schoolwork, responsibility ... it's really a big adjustment that takes time. It does highlight how big the gap is between the Academy and the professional game, and we're trying to narrow that gap." Kirby entered his college career after a terrific stint with the Dynamo Academy, where he regularly commuted the two hours from his Beaumont home to participate in Dynamo workouts. The time and effort, Kirby said, was well worth it. "My academy experience was really good; it prepared me better than anything else could have," Kirby said. "I think when I came in I was fast and just worked hard, but I was a little lost on the field. But by the time I came out of there, I really knew how to play the position and where to be on the field, not just running around with no point." Laid-back and unassuming while watching the Dynamo take on the Colorado Rapids just outside of Denver on October 4, Kirby is more fiery on the field, where his bursts of speed make him a dangerous attacking option. "First off, he is fast," Muuss said. "When you see him play, something jumps out in front of you saying, 'Hey, this kid has got something.' And with the ball, his speed running at people, I thought he was one of the most dangerous players that I had seen. Also, the ability he has to get behind defenses and just cause a fit because of his athleticism. His service into the box is quality as well. And most importantly, and I know this sounds corny, but he is an extremely great kid." Kirby's stint with the Dynamo Academy U-18 team was highlighted by the team's run to the championship of the Dallas Cup U-19 group in March 2008. Locked in a scoreless tie in the final against IMG Soccer Academy, which had beaten Houston in the 2007 final, Kirby stepped up for a loose ball at midfield, raced past three defenders, and slotted the ball underneath the charging goalkeeper. The second-half tally was the only goal of the match. "That was incredible," Kirby said. "James [Clarkson] gave us a speech at halftime saying that big players needed to step up for the rest of the game, and the big players needed to help us win this. Then I stepped up, scored the goal, and that felt pretty good." Although it has not been easy, Kirby has now shown some of his game-changing abilities at the college level, and both Denver and the Dynamo hope to see more of the same in the future.
  18. I think there may be as many as 8 early signings and at least two more verbals. This is an exciting time for LU. ;D
  19. We are in the hunt and this is not out of the realm of possibility.
  20. I just noticed the roster on the website for the first time. Surprises? Comments? Is Brooks Ybarra a walk on? I know he was a great HS player, but not sure if he was a DI prospect. Matt Pace from Kelly is a great kid and will be a good addition to the team. He may rarely see the floor, but he has the right mindset to be a great cheerleader from the bench. 2008-2009 Roster Coaches No. Name Pos. Ht. Wt. Yr.-Exp.
