Nuno was suppose to be playing for LU this year but had citizenship problems so he had to go to prep school. Counting him, LU has 5 players signed or committed for next year: Nuno, Harris from Port Arthur, Demetris Smith from Pflugerville, plus Kyser and Lynch from Lancaster. Since Hall, Nwevo and Nabors are the only seniors, does Roc have 5 schollies to give?
Roc, always has plenty of scholarships to give. Undoubtedly, there will be several players this year that will be run off or will voluntarily leave the program. It has happened every year since Roc took over.

If you are going to get your butt kicked with Nwevo and Custer, you might as well put them at the end of the bench and play Brown and Wesley. The freshmen are certainly more athletic and quicker than Nwevo and Custer and aren't going to learn a lot sitting on the bench while Roc embarks on this ill advised NBA type schedule for college kids. So far the juco guards have been terribly disappointing. Harris and Mathis were billed as immediate difference makers and that hasn't been the case. However, I must say I like the true freshmen Donley Minor. He will be good for the program if Roc can manage to keep him around. I don't know the status of EB Davis. I assume he is injured. After seeing the two home games and listening to the others, I'm more concerned than ever about this team's outlook. I know most believe Roc has at least another year due to the young roster, but this season may be so bad that the fuse is shortened. I hope I am wrong.

Sorry to hear of your loss.

I thought Kendrick Harris demonstrated he is going to be a big part of any success we have. The guy is quick, jumps through the roof and has a decent outside shot. I thought Charlie Harper played well in the first half. His stats weren't special, but he is much stronger than last year. I've haven't been a big fan of Nwevo's ability, but I have to say he did some good things around the basket last night. Miles did a decent job of running the point last night also. Nabors played hard, but didn't have a great game. Too many turnovers and a terrible decision to try to drive the lane and make a circus shot with 25 seconds on the shot clock and we're trying to protect our lead. Custer still has a long way to go in my opinion. He seems nervous every time he touches the ball, with the exception of free throws and his open 3 when there wasn't a defender within 15 ft. of him.

Lamar vs. Huston-Tillotson Predictions
lamarproud replied to Lazeek's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
LU by a lot and scoring over 100. Reggie Mathis demonstrates he is a pure shooter albeit against a terrible team. Kendrick Harris has a couple of spectacular dunks and shows Dawkins like quickness with a little more size. Anthony Miles runs the team smoothly and shows he has continued to improve. Justin Wesley comes off the bench and demonstrates he is a freshman with a lot of potential. Custer looks ok against a smaller, weaker team. Nwevo is a non factor. Justin Nabors reminds us he is the best player on the roster even though he isn't 100%. Charlie Harper contributes in a non spectacular way. Thats all I have to say about that. -
It is really hard to understand the delay in releasing the roster. I don't have time to go back and pull all of the stats on these guys, but wasn't Kendrick Harris the Player of the Year in his JUCO conference and averaged 20+ points and around 8 assists per game. I think he is the real deal at point guard which could put Miles as the 2 guard and backup point guard. Justin Nabors was going to be our best player other than Dawkins last year and there is no reason to think he won't be a force this year. Custer and Nwevo will be serviceable post players this year with some contribution from Osas. If Charlie Harper continues to improve he will be a solid player. I think Ashton Hall will also have a solid senior year. I am cautiously optimistic about this group. I'm ready to see some basketball.

Heather Morris joins Lamar Ladies Staff
lamarproud replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Tidwell is going to have a really good looking staff on the bench this year. Emily Spickler and now Heather Morris will certainly be easy on the eyes. I think I may have to get season tickets for the women instead of the unknown men's team. -
I hear the list will be released Monday afternoon. I don't understand the delay at a time when LU is trying to sell season tickets. How do you generate excitement when nobody even knows who will play this year? I don't think the failure to release has anything to do with embarrassment as I have heard this is a really good group of players. However, waiting around to clear up eligibility issues does not sell season tickets. Hopefully, Roc won't repeat this mistake in the future.

Has Roccaforte's failure to announce his recruits killed all enthusiasm of the die hard fans? I am replying to my own post from yesterday morning. I have heard that Shane Mahoney is gone, Skylar Williams is gone and Brandon Moton will not be on the roster. Come on Roccaforte, at least give us something to chew on.
-
I believe there are 8 new players on campus and eligible. I don't understand Roccaforte's reluctance to release the names at this point. His approval rating among diehards is sinking because of this inaction on his part. I know he is excited about this group and really believes the team can be his best, so why he doesn't at least release the list is a mystery to me. He doesn't have to brag about the talent level, just release the da** list already.

I recall a news piece regarding Michelle Sladaritz signing with LU. However, she is not listed on their roster for the 2009 season. Does anybody know her status??
-
I hear there will not be a separate PSL, but LU will utilize your Cardinal Club Membership Level to assign priority seats. I believe to have a shot at chairbacks between the 30s you will need to be at a minimum of $500 membership if they get the response they anticipate. I think there will also be preferences for tailgating spots based upon the same premise.

This will be an amazing addition to the infant LU program. Both of the Chavis brothers were strongly recruited by major programs.

If I'm not mistaken the Kelly keeper made the list on the second team. -
Beaumont Enterprise Super Gold Team
lamarproud replied to weasel's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
There are certainly deserving players on this list every year. However, this list has annually left off some of the top players in the area going all the way back to Jimmy Stone from Kelly early in this decade who was one of the few kids in the area to sign a DI scholarship at that time. Jimmy had been dominant for Kelly and committed to Vanderbilt University yet he wasn't on the Super Gold list. My honest opinion is this list does more harm than good as too many kids are overlooked. -
Nederland Girls v Huntsville Predictions?
lamarproud replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
No bias at all I'm sure. An article in the Enterprise mentioned a meniscus tear suffered by LW. Is she definitely out and will it require surgery? Good luck to Nederland girls and boys. I enjoyed seeing them play this year. Your anonymous referee friend. -

No prediction from me, but I believe it will be a very competitive match. I have seen both teams and feel they are two of the strongest sides in the area. -
LU Looks To Get Over Slump Tonight
lamarproud replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Custer or Nwevo starting next year would not be a positive development in my opinion. As much as I like both of these guys as solid citizens, I don't think either of them is a legitimate starting Div. 1 post player. -
Lamar vs. UTSA Updates/LU Falls Again!!!!!!!!!!
lamarproud replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I still like this team and I like this coach. No, we are probably not going to the NCAA tournament this year, but at the start of this season with the loss of Nabors not many people thought this would be our year. I don't think Roc has made all the right moves during games, but between Roc and his staff they have about 100 years of coaching experience to my 0. So who am I to decide whats right and whats not. I wasn't happy with the 1-3-1 zone or the 2-3 zone last night and I would have gotten out of it, but guys with alot of experience in the college game chose not to get out of it. I would have called a time out before the Ashton free throws, but guys with alot of college experience decided it was better to get him to the line without the timeout. I will say one thing. Even with all of the experience on this staff Bubba Skelton is missed. In my opinion he was a great game coach and didn't mind disagreeing with Roc or putting his two cents in vocally during timeouts. For the most part our assistants this year are sitting back and letting Roc run everything during timeouts. I believe we executed better after timeouts last year and took timeouts at the insistence of Bubba Skelton. -
I couldn't make it to the game on Wednesday, so I only know about the technical fouls from this thread, but you never know what might have been said after the bumping incident that led to the T. Maybe it was a case of an over zealous ref calling the tech, but if the bump was a mutual confrontation by the two players, and the refs were letting that go, it is possible that there might have been a choice word or two after the physical exchange that drew the tech. The second tech, from what I've read, was a no brainer for what was yelled. Jay Brown apologized for the Tech in a Bmt. Enterprise article this morning. I did not hear his say anything, nor have I ever heard him say anything that would get him a technical foul. However, he is a mature player and takes responsibility for the altercation that led to the technical. By the way, the Enterprise article is very good and I have even more respect for Jay Brown knowing the circumstances of his childhood. I believe Roccaforte would also take responsibility for the tech he received. He clearly hollered several magic words including the f word at the ref. I heard it and everybody sitting near me heard it, including the 4 year old on the front row. He needs to lead his team by example. If he can't control his emotions he can't expect his players to control their emotions. Now it is time to put this game behind us and get a win tonight.
-
The 1st tech was on Jay Brown. I don't know what he said or did. Then Roc went off with a screaming f bomb laden argument. He absolutely deserved a technical. We had momentum at that time with a 9-6 lead and the 6 point possession killed us. The next thing you know we are down 15-9 and we played from behind for the rest of the game. The players played hard and I thought Charlie Harper and Ashton Hall really had good games. Miles also showed some good signs. I thought Hall should have been in the game more in the 1st half. He was hot and then somehow he gets lost on the bench for a very long stretch.

I'm not sure we were watching the same game. I thought A&M CC was very impressive. They were bigger than us, but they were also quicker to the ball and played much better defense. If I'm not mistaken the big linebacker had one 3 pointer and was not that much of a factor. The Dirk Nowitski lookalike was more of a factor, but the real difference was in the guard play. Palmer and Green killed us. Based on what I saw I think A&M CC has a very good chance to be conference champions. We have a very good chance of being borderline to make the conference tournament unless Dawkins and Worrell get healthy and we get improved play from McThay, Hall and the young guys.

McNeese Game thoughts... and going forward.
lamarproud replied to LUFAN's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Ashton Hall has actually improved recently. He played a good defensive game against SE LA. and was our leading scorer yesterday. Williams may end up being a special player if he gets his together. We are all aware of talented kids who never realize their full potential because of bad attitudes. Lets hope Williams grows up and becomes the player he is capable of being. -
Post Tournament And Friday scores here

I'm no expert by any stretch, but I was very impressed with Nederland's system of play when I watched the Lumberton scrimmage last week and I don't have any allegiance to either team. Nederland was very well balanced, built their attack well and I believe they had several more shots on goal than Lumberton during the scrimmage. I thought if there was any break down in that scrimmage it was a couple of defensive miscues against a very talented Lumberton attack.
