  3. As a parent who has watched a lot of girls basketball over a span of the last ten years, I can understand your stance. Most high school girls basketball is not an easy watch due to the overall skill level on the floor. Even watching most "select" / AAU games is an acquired taste due to the fact that most games are overly physical, hand checking, grabbing "D-up" games where full court pressing is used to generate turnovers, resulting in most of the points being from layups, as opposed to half court generated offense. It is a treat when you get to see games that involve teams running half court sets that feature motion without the ball, and teams that can knock down shots ranging from floaters, to mid-range shots, to 3pt exhibitions. I understand completely that defensive pressure and turnovers are a huge part of the game, I am just speaking to how the physical nature of the girls game is ramped up most times to cover up a lack of skill or to rub out more skilled player(s). You will enjoy this game as it will feature some of the most highly skilled players we have in this area. All of which have worked since a young age at their craft. I know this because my daughter has been fortunate enough to compete (very much uphill I will add, lol) against them in practice and with them at tournaments during AAU seasons and workouts through the years. Good luck to both teams.
  4. Indeed they do, as does that very solid veteran leadership led PNG squad. I know Lumberton faces Jasper, PNG, Barbers Hill, and also highly ranked 3A Hitchcock in their tournament at Lumberton in mid November. Will definitely get a real solid idea of how much work will be needed to improve to being able to compete at the level of competition of those quality programs. Great opportunity for the untested Raider squad.
  5. That's great to see the district get recognition by the prognosticators. Toughest girls district in SETX imo, from #2 in the state HJ, #13 in the state Silsbee, (per TABC preseason rankings), to a very hard nosed LCM squad coached by a HOF coach. I personally think you can throw Bridge City in that cusp mix as well. They have a very solid x/o coach as well, plus a high energy roster Saw several teams in another thread wanting to scrimmage HJ, shoot, come on down to 22-4a and you can catch them twice a year for a real (improbable) win/(most likely) loss chance, like these teams in this district have to, lol. Hope for a safe, injury free year for all the ladies competing this year.
  6. Congrats and good wishes moving forward, my man. Keep grinding......
  7. I think Woodville and HJ certainly have the experience and the rosters to make it right back to San Antonio next March. I think United will be very successful as well, with the overall roster and the very experienced coach they have. Just a guess on my part, but I could see United playing more up tempo based on the guards and the very talent wing player they have. PNG is one of the hunted now in their 5A district, along with perennial favorite Barbers Hill , based on their success last season and their experienced roster. I think Orangefield will be a solid squad once again this season due to coaching and their experienced roster. In area 4A, HJ has a wealth of riches in terms of returning varsity level players, players from last year's JV and freshman teams, and players coming into their school district for a variety of reasons. They may have lost their all time leading scorer, but I think they will make up for that difference by playing into the strengths of the additional length and quickness they have in their arsenal now. I know Jasper has a very veteran squad that is athletic, and I look forward to seeing what they do as well. Also in 4A, I know LCM will be right there due to the fact that they have a 1000+ win coach who knows how to get his team ready to play whatever style is necessary depending on the opponent. They have a great floor general in their senior point guard, and their other players are great in buying into the role that their HOF coach has mapped out for them. I think Bridge City may have lost some seniors, but their younger players will be ready to go as well, and BC's coach will have them in the right spots. Silsbee lost a lot of seniors, but I think they will be stronger than what some people may be thinking at this point. Lumberton is a team that for personal reasons I would like to see succeed, but they have a lot of work to do to approach the level of cohesiveness that the teams I listed above already play it. Good luck to all the teams in the area, and I wish the best for all the young ladies who play. They work very hard and they deserve the area's support.
  8. I misspelled Kassie's name, my bad. KASSIE Chavez it should have read.....
  9. Chelsea Perry - Sr - LCM Cassi Chavez - Jr - Legacy Asia Wheeler - Sr - HJ Delberta Guillory-Smith - Sr- HJ Four more very talented guards imo. Perry and Chavez are great floor generals who never seem to make mistakes and just make their teammates better, Wheeler a FANTASTIC defensive guard and underrated 3-pt shooter, and Guillory-Smith has 3-Pt range to the coach's timeline, and is a very long quick defender.
  10. Well in terms of wins and losses maybe, but the girls played very solidly against highly competitive teams from all over the country, not just regional level teams. All the games were close score wise, but more importantly the girls showed numerous positive traits coaches are looking for in each of the games, imo. It was quite a grind for the young ladies, was real proud of their effort.
  11. [Hidden Content] Amazing to look at this list and see all the height and length of the majority of the finalists, impressive grouping of talent. Congratulations to Ash, good luck the rest of the way!
  12. Copied this from Van Wade's article in the Orange Leader from today. 22-4A ALL DISTRICT MOST VALUABLE PLAYER: Tunisha Strong, Hardin-Jefferson OFFENSIVE MVP: Dakota Matthews, Silsbee DEFENSIVE MVP: Delberta Guillory-Smith, Hardin-Jefferson NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR: Ashlon Jackson, Hardin-Jefferson COACH OF THE YEAR: Mike Fogo, Hardin-Jefferson FIRST TEAM Chelsea Perry, LC-M Madison Fischer, Bridge City Brandis Bass, Silsbee Makenna Henry, Hardin-Jefferson Emery Maze, Silsbee Asia Wheeler, Hardin-Jefferson SECOND TEAM Karly Rogers, LC-M Alissa Brown, WO-S Audrey Postula, Lumberton Jaden Dollins, Hamshire-Fannett T’nya Irvin, Silsbee Rylee Wirth, Hardin-Jefferson He had no Honorable Mentions listed in this article, although I know there are some....
  13. Indeed it has been a fun season drawing positive attention to these hard working young ladies. It really seems the needle is pointing "upward" in terms of the amount of talent in the area as it relates to girls basketball. A number of programs have solid middle school programs that will be adding players to the high school ranks next season as well. Good luck to all the ladies this summer. Hopefully a large number will play aau ball and/or maintain their dedication to working out and developing as players in the off season. Thanks to all who have spent time posting on this board this season.....
  14. If one was at the game and knew HJ and their roster, they would have observed HJ operating without it's 6' freshman phenom that whole game. Kind of different feel when all the pieces were not available. HJ has a fantastic overall roster, with the two-time defending SuperGold player of the year, one of the best 3-Pt shooters makes wise in the state, and two way defensive minded guard who can knock down shots at a good clip. Plus they have a SOLID bench with players who stay in their lane and do their job. It was a very "explicable" margin when you take into account a superpower team that was missing a VITAL piece and appeared to be a bit over confident that the scrub team they were fixing to play was going to just lay down. That did not happen, and to the credit of the great coaching staff HJ has, they got their ladies focused in on game and HJ held Lumberton off. Lumberton girls did not play scared and they pushed as hard as they could with a not very deep team. My point is at this point of the playoffs, there are only good teams left now, and all it takes is foul trouble or some other glitch to throw things out of wack. I think this game actually kind of helped HJ, especially the coaches, drive the point home that nothing will be given it must be earned. Good Luck the rest of the way HJ ladies, bring it home. Fantastic group of young ladies.
  15. I guess the only way I could maybe see the question being answered in theory, is if somehow the old Bum Phillips quote could be utilized to see which coaches could pull it off. Updated for today's politically correct climate of course, the original quote was male gender only. “He/she can take his’n/her',n and beat your’n” . “Or he/she can take your’n and beat his’n/her'n.”
  16. Half Livingston 26 BC 22 Box and one by BC on Livingston's #3 so far. Number if missed open shots from Livingston so far
