  6. 6A College Park 53 4A Lumberton 46 Scrappy game by Raiders against a solid College Park squad. I will be here most of day. Will try to post other scores from tourney after taking my wife on a Waffle House run lol
  7. I witnessed the absolute crushing of Lumberton personally, this past Friday. As a father, it was difficult watching one's daughter get thrown in harm's way like that, but I admire the way she and the Lumberton young ladies competed as hard as they could against that Juggernaut, lol. No doubt HJ is really good, as is United, there is only one way to semi-accurately gauge who is the best, a head to head match-up. Does not look like that was in the cards, for whatever the reason.... As I said earlier in the post, if all goes as I am seeing listed in Barbers Hill tournament Pool and Bracket play, United will get its chance to show where they are,for people with questions on them, with a likely bracket matchup with (#1) 5A Fort Bend Hightower on Friday, assuming both teams win their selective pool play games I have watched a number of the young ladies on both of these programs over the years, as my daughter has either played with them in AAU, played against them, or worked out with them the last five or so years. Great to watch all these talented young ladies grow and improve right before our eyes. Good luck to both both programs as the season progresses.
  8. A strong Little Dribblers Program that works on teaching the young girls fundamentals and skills is a good place to start. It needs to be a program where the world doesn't end if one doesn't win the mini-minor or minor championship, rather put the emphasis on the young players improving. My daugther was a 4th grader at Lumberton when Vidor started their Little Dribble program back up. I remember her Little Dribbler All-Star Team Coach at Lumberton agreeing to scrimmage Vidor many times that winter and spring, because the Vidor Coach wanted to get their program up and running. It was not about wins and losses, it was about teaching the game to the children. My daughter is a 10th grader now, and through the years l have watched that group of girls at Vidor, that is within a year or two of my daughter, become a one of the hardest working groups in our area. There has to be commitment from parents and most fundamentally, young girls have to want to play basketball. It is a sport that is not as glamorous as Volleyball, the sport where most tall athletic talent seems to migrate to. There has to be a group of girls that starts to play at a young age, and carries that through high school. A large number of the high school players in our area that are really talented at basketball typically will also play AAU and train by themselves and with trainers for many hours outside of any school related practice. They have started this process before middle school. The analogy I always use is "The Iceberg". One only sees 5-10% of an Iceberg (i.e. a girl playing in a game), but 90-95% of the Iceberg is HIDDEN, (i.e. all the individual practice and training, AAU practice and training, etc.). I have no doubt Nederland could build a competitive girls program, it is just going to take a committed bunch to push it in the right direction. Good Luck.
  9. Still think you are off with Lumberton at this point, One Chance. "Team First" posted "BC is now 15-5" in a post last night in terms of their overall record, and at this point they are 2-1 in district vs 2-2 for Lumberton. That would seem to grade them higher. Also, PNG is a more veteran team in a larger district with experienced upper classmen skilled guards, with a better record. Also they defeated Lumberton at the Reservation when they played earlier this month. Again, that would seem to grade them higher as well. Turn that spotlight back towards Mid-County, lol. One last point is I'm sure there are people out there that don't use your metric of "quality losses" when they factor in rankings either, as is what you may be doing in terms of Lumberton's current record. It is nice to debate though.....
  10. Wrong title posted on thread below. JV score was put in title
  11. Final Varsity game 101-50 HJ over Lumberton. Title is wrong
  12. 4th Qtr TABC #4 HJ 101 Lumberton 50 Great game by HJ. Lumnerton competed hard,
  13. JV Game HJ 48 Lumberton 44 Really hard fought by both teams. Fun to watch.
  14. Per Max Preps this is what I saw: Lost to HJ, 1-1 vs Orangefield (lost at Lumberton Tourney, won at OField great shooting night), Lost to BH in Lumberton Tourney, Lost twice to Bridge City in what appears to be close games. They also played Westbrook close two times in losing efforts, lost to Silsbee on par with what 22-4a district teams, except for Bridge City, have lost to Silsbee by. Their record is listed at 12-12 overall, 2-1 in district, again per Max Preps site. I watched a number of their games at the Lumberton tourney, and will say they are an extremely hard working team whose players do not take a play off, effort wise, especially on the defensive end of the court. You may beat them, but you are going to earn it physically.
  15. Thx BH 85, I was having trouble with the upload and was going the manual route, which was slow going as well, lol.
  16. I will see if I can get the copy I have to load in a new post
  17. I also saw on the tournament schedule my daughter showed me, United will be at the Barbers Hill Tourney over the Christmas break. The list of teams looked to be mostly solid 6A programs as well as some good 5A teams, including Fort Bend Hightower, who was listed as 20-0 and the (#2) 5A school in the state, on Max Preps.
  18. As someone once said, I'm not here to talk about the past..... I was speaking in context of this season only, since that's all that will determine playoffs....
  19. It would be great to have this type of warm-up up tournament, but it would require some alignment of the stars to get the coaches to agree to play these games on the cusp of playoffs for most teams. Of the teams listed, Lumberton is the only team on this list not expected by most prognosticators to be a playoff level team at the time the early pre-district part of the season was going on, but I guess them vs Legacy would be fun for some to watch due to the player "transfers" out of Lumberton to Legacy, and familiarity of the some of the players between the two teams. Woodville vs Silsbee would be a sweet matchup as well, as was listed above.
  20. Agreed, would be quite a One Day Holiday Classic Tournament Lineup for this year, lol. Think there would be a nice level of "saltiness" in all the games, building up to the HJ vs United Primetime Game.
  21. The fans wanted to see HJ vs United, it was unfortunate the teams couldn't work something out on the open dates each team had.
