Trust me, I understand your assessment of the 1983 team and agree for 1983 they were head and shoulders above their competition. However, comparing the 2018 athletes and the 1983 athletes is like comparing apples and oranges. We've all been around long enough to see the transfiguration. When I was in school in the early 80's - if you ran sub 4.8, you were pretty quick and occasionally you had guys in the 4.6 range with some wind at the back. We didn't really start seeing 4.5's until late 80's and early 90's on a regular basis. Now, fast forward to 2018 - Newton has SEVERAL sub 4.5 guys and built like machines. Match that with football iQ and vision, and I dont think its comparable. Maybe, I am wrong. I lived thru that era and what I am seeing today is not something I ever seen growing up in ANY part of the state at any level.

I think two divisions  of football is a good example of what your saying , had we stayed with one division for each classification alot of teams would never make it out of the first round much less make the playoffs period. It’s amazing what kids can do today compared to back then.

Let's be honest........has there ever been a 3a team in the WORLD capable of doing what this newton team can do? Moreover, has there ever been a 3a team in the WORLD that produced this many high caliber d1 athletes? Furthermore, has there ever been a 3a team in the WORLD with a QB, RB and WR all committed to the same University? No? Well, alright.

Boy.... that was brutal.  Diboll has some good kids, but we played some really, REALLY bad football.

Diboll’s lines absolutely destroyed us in the trenches. The only times we moved the ball were when we threw the it. That’s not a good look for a team that relies almost totally on the run game. Our only score was set up by a long pass play that put us deep in the red zone.

Our qb Skinner was a bright spot.  Maybe the only bright spot. Well, unless you consider “opportunities to improve” all over the field a bright spot. We honestly looked like a team trying to implement a new offensive system. It was bad.

Diboll has size. No offense, but I think we made them look a lot better than they are. Not trying to knock them, just being honest. They beat the crap out of us.

An interesting note... Splendora edged out Sterling. Otherwise every team in our district got smashed by a smaller school this week. This is possibly the worst district in 4A D1. Lumberton (Jasper), LCM (Woodville), Huffman (Liberty), Livingston (Shepherd), and BC took big losses in games that should have been locks based on size alone. Sad times.

Gotta watch out for the small towns you can’t find on google earth
