1. I watched them in person when they scrimmaged Woodville. They are beatable. Their front seven is one of the better 3A front sevens in the area. They aren't huge, but they're aggressive and smart. Their tailback is probably the best true running back Kountze will see all year. Their offensive line has perfected the term "block as a unit". They are strong, but a little undersized. The key to a win for Kountze is to exploit their questionable secondary. CC has all the speed in the world to beat Kountze. But the technique and football IQ of the secondary is lacking.

Woodville threw and ran the ball well against CC. And our defense, other than a couple big plays, was fairly successful too. Stack the box on defense and get your passing game going and it will be a good game. But if CC gets rolling on offense, look out. You don't want to get into a shoot out with this team.

We scrimmaged them in scrimmage #2 and that's about how I'd sum it up.  Played 2 live 20 min quarters and they were tough to stop , but they never stopped us.  Their OL is impressive IMO , not the biggest but solid all the way across and strong probably a solid 200-220 lbs. all the way across.  They have the tunnel sweep down to perfection.  Had a LB that was pretty good sized and had good sideline-to-sideline speed.  Backs are fast and run hard.

  2. I called that one. Where are you at HD55 and Bobcat09? 2years and a cloud of dust. Maybe I will go back and pull all of the posts from HD Nation about how Finney was committed long term to HD.

I knew this was coming back in the fall.  He's never stayed anywhere long, is anyone really surprised at this?

  3. Huckaby is a good piece to build around. Good athlete and football player. HD will be in the mix come playoff time for atleast the 3rd spot I would think.

I'll give the Huck kid props , he was a stud , IMO he was better than the QB he replaced that got hurt from year before.

The Hopkins kid is OK , could be better.  He definately passes the eyeball test ( has the body to play next level ) but he never really did anything the 2 years we played them and it's not like we had big linemen , he should of been dominating.  I'm sure HD 55 Nation will fire away at me now

Did this Doucet kid play CB for HD last year in playoff game?

HD is going to catch San Augustine 1st round.  It will be a close game...  If HD wins, they will win one more after that.  Train stops at Mart.

Either way.. this is HD's last chance at a playoff win.....maybe ever.

Finney and his entire staff are looking for jobs starting week after Thanksgiving.

    Enjoy the season guys.

By the way... Moseley cant play, and the Yates kid is at Hardin Jefferson.
Actually HD will meet West Sabine in 2nd RD after a bye in the 1st RD. Then HD will meet the winner of Bosqueville and Joaquin in 3rd RD. After that HD will meet the winner of Mart vs Alto in the 4th RD. Let them two teams kill each other. Furthermore, glad you can speak for the HD Coaches. Must be nice to also know HD will not win in the future for a long time. lol ::) You are a hater, just another negative poster that hates HD. Don't worry about HD, we been a successful program since our establishment.  ;)  8) As far as Finney, I see him going deep in playoffs and getting a big raise at HD. Next season he gets maybe his two best players back, QB Cade Huckaby 6'3 200lbs and TE/DE Kyle Hopkins 6'4 260lb beast(Nederland's RB Kendric Hopkins lil brother). HD will be fine.  :D
I think your in for a rude awakening.. maybe not in district but in non district and playoffs
LOL. Did you see the Alto game? Have seen HD lately? Team full of Beast! HD has got Finney's system down now, I hope D-ville and Kountze take HD lightly.  ;) :D 8) :-*
Man I don't know what your bigger claim to faim is:  "We almost beat Alto" or "We played Groveton closer than Alto" It's a tough one, I've read both about the same amount of times over the last year. ;D

Good luck to whoever doesn't have to face Mart, faith is on your side.  ;D
We wont need "luck" or any other kind of ju-ju to beat Mart, HD, or whoever, we'll win simply because we are a better team.  You obviously didn't see Alto last year or know what we have coming back, no worries, it'll all be settled in due time  8)

Mart will get to state again and this time win it. No team, and i mean NO TEAM around here is beating Mart.  ;)
Yeah we'll just see about that.
Think we are gonna be fightin it out for the district title  this season, JacketFan? Our district appears top heavy this year. What do you think? Should be fun this year.........
Yeah Pinelandflash, I fully expect our game to be for the district championship.  I also don't think it's entirely out of the question for both of us to be 6-0 and possibly play each other again in round 4.  I think Shelbyville will be improved, SA will still be good, but their fans are dillusional if they think they are gone be as good as last year.  Grapeland as athletes/talent but would rather be on basketball court.  Cushing is Cushing.

I don't think Mart is going to be as dominate as some people are posting, lost a lot of really good players.

1 of us will get HD in 2nd round.
They had alot of young players the past 2 years, well 3 years technically (some just entering their Junior season), they will be a young team again this year, Mart simply reloads, no knock on anyone else but i dont see anyone giving them a run barring injuries until State-Semis and State Title game.
That's fine, it's your opinion and I respet it.  That OL they had last year was really good and losing 4/5 may be a drop off but who knows.  Bryant was a stud to.

We gave em all they wanted last year and return 9/8, I'm pretty optimistic we will give them everything they want this year and may just come out on top ( assuming we meet up which I think we will )

I've seen the players to watch list and there are no small school players. Know there is some big-time talent playing at these levels. I will start it off with LB/RB Hunter Cabral from West Sabine. A 165lb. MLB (yes just 165lbs.), he recorded 168 tackles in 12 games. Was District 10 defensive MVP and made 2nd team all state in just two playoff games. If you all have any more (and I KNOW you do lol) list them for me please and thank you...........
Yall have some pretty good linemen returning as well, and a speedy RB.  I look for WS to go a few rounds next year, but I have no idea who yalls QB will be.

District 10 1A Players to watch:

    West Sabine

    Sr. RB/DB Nick Williams
Jr. RB/LB Hunter Cabral (2012 district defensive MVP)
    Jr. QB/DB Reshod Williams
    Jr. WR/DB Joshua Duffey
    Fr. DeMarie Smith

    Alto:
    Sr. RB/LB Jacolby Whitaker
    Jr. QB/DB Zac Sturns

    Grapeland:
    Sr. WR/DB Patrick Walker
Sturns will be a Sr.

Lots other impact players returning for Alto as well

Man, this is getting good already! HD will be ready come playoff time no matter who they face. Alto will be VERY GOOD regardless of who their head coach is. I do think that the players that Mart lost will hurt come playoff time. Cosby and Thomas are electric though and they are still the defending region III champs until someone knocks them off. Alto wins their district with West Sabine finishing second and SA coming in third with a young team. Mart will beat Bosqueville and Axtell and win district 12. This would put Alto and Mart on a collision course in the third round, the same place San Augustine ran into mart in 2012. I think HD beats WS in Rd 2 and rolls to regionals against the Mart/Alto winner (which i think will be Alto). I'm sure Joaquin, Timpson, Harleton, Carlisle and the folks from District 9 will have plenty to say about this as well.

My top teams going into the season:

    1. Alto
    2. Mart
    3. HD
    4. WS
Good post HD9, I enjoy reading your insight on here as you are the only HD fan with any sense.  I'm telling right now, Alto is not going to drop off with Gardner retiring, all will be setled very soon regarding that.  Mart will be intersting, those Linemen they are losing were very good as was their WR's that graduated as well.  Mart will be their, if Thomas gets hurt though then they could be in trouble.  HD will be their to, lack of speed could hurt in the end though.

    I see our district as:

    1. Alto
    2. WS
    3. SA/Grapeland/Shelbyville
    6.  Poor lil ol Cushing, who could probably get 3rd in Hd district.

Hmmm, that's interesting.  I too think they will struggle without Gardner, but I still feel they will win their district.  Didn't realize that would help them avoid the Mighty Bobcats in the second round.  I, for one, would love a run to the regional round, then see them there.  However it happens, I want Alto, and I want to beat Alto.  I kinda think the boys feel the same way! I absolutley cannot wait until August!
"help them avoid the Might Bobcats" by winning district , HA!  Maybe the other way around buddy, We beat HD once and we'll do it again on our way to Jerry World in 2013.  Their's a lotta teams that want to beat Alto but talking about it and actually doing it are 2 different things.  Put that in your book :P
You obviously have a short memory.  1 more minute on that clock and HD continues to bash that football down Alto's throat on the way to a victory on that cold November afternoon in Lufkin.  The clock was the only reason we were throwing. It certainly wasn't that Jacket defense.  You guys made Chris Herman a star that day, and he has turned into a MAN during this offseason.  He and the rest of us will be back to look you in the eye, no matter what round it happens in.  Good luck...win as much as you can before the red and black ruins that trip to "Jerry World".
No short memory here , I clearly remember the better team winning and advancing, in fact, I remember us running basically the same 2/3 plays the entire game and never getting stopped.  Reality's a tough pill to swallow.

Coach Gardner is a legend, Alto will surely not improve with his departure. Alto will feel this in the form of a small minor set back. I see them finishing 2nd in District and seeing HD again. HD vs Alto will again be a barn burner. HD is loaded and this move by Gardner may just catapult HD past Alto. HD Nation!
You're crazy if you think we are going to take a step back with what we have returning.  Come back in late October and see how that "2nd in district" pick will turn out, West Sabine wont slow us down and SA sure wont.
