  1. Weight lifting is good for kids, to an extent..If it is game day why exert energy on weights, most sports

save energy on game day...Nolan Ryan, Cal Ripken, Bo Jackson, are these kids in high school??? We are talking about the h.s. athlete...he needs everthing he has for the game itself to be most likely..successful..Nothing like seeing that kid come up short on game day and someone telling him, "these

weights want hurt you for the game today, they WILL HELP YOU IN THE LONG RUN"......WHOOPS CAREER IS OVER!!!...But he sure looks good down at the local World Gym....please.

  2. A football coaches responsibility is to build a football team, whether during the season or the off season.  A baseball coach's responsibility is to do the same.  The problem is conflicting needs.  If you have a big guy that is a lineman, you are going to build him as such.  This means that you are going to build bulk, and not arm.  If he is also one of the pitchers of the team, this is going to conflict with what is needed for the baseball team.  Problem is, the head football coach in most of the area schools is also, TA DA...the AD.  So guess who gets hosed?

In addition, probably the majority of weight training workouts specify alternating muscle groups on alternating days to prevent injury, and allow for muscle growth and regeneration.  It's a physical reality, especially for developing muscles in teens, where not only is the muscle involved, but the bone growth plates as well.  I'm sure many of you know of a kid who was threw heat at 11 or 12, was ridden hard by his volunteer coach as his "ace", and ends up having a "rag arm" by the time he gets to high school.  It wasn't his genetics, it was over use.

So what does this boil down to?  A good coaching staff puts the health of the kids first and foremost.  A good coaching staff doesn't have identified "aces". they have developed a lot of kids at the pitching position, and are ready no matter who they play.  A good coaching staff develops their team in all positions, and has a kid ready to go, if one of the others is hurt.  A good coaching staff doesn't need a couple of "ironmen" playing hurt because they have the whole team ready to play ball.  A good coaching staff has workouts that meet the needs of the kids, not the ego of the coaches.  A good coaching staff doesn't need a UIL rule, because they already had that idea of taking care of the kids foremost in their mind.  I am proud to say that where my kid is...we have a GREAT coaching staff, and they have developed the epitome of what baseball is...TEAM...

elhector how is your football team where your at? What about your basketball team, track? How are they doing?

Can someone on here tell me what the argument is??? The original post was baseball kids that play football having to on non game days lifting weights twice a week. And how everyone feels?

Strike-out can you tell me what a "powerlifting" workout means ???? Unless I am wrong you are saying that your school weighting workouts are only the bench press, squat, and deadlift? Is this correct? Because man that staff needs to be fired if this is true!!!

Does no one on here feel weights are important in every sport including baseball?? How can being stronger not make you a better baseball player?? Can someone on here tell me why Roger Clemens and Barry Bonds are going to jail for perjury. Was it taking steroids and not lifting wieghts after taking them?? Wasn't Jose Canseco a 50-50 club member, so it doesn't look like he slowed down any by bulking up.

I need all you "experts" on here to please educate me on all your research and knowledge in the subject of strength training and please inlcude your credentials because I want to know all the facts for my kids future uses when they get to high school age. Give us all a break and come into the 21st century. You should just demand that your football coach make ALL ATHLETES not just football players lift "at least twice a week" if not more, maybe you son or daugther would be faster and a better baseball player.

Quit whining and do more research into the LATEST knowledge about the importance of strength training year-round to all sports. I tell you what why don't you just call the strength and conditioning coaches at a couple of major universities and see what they have baseball players doing during the season, and off season. I promise they are ALL lifting throughout the year, pichers included!

Check out NOLAN RYAN's writings about liftingand workouts, especially right after games. Read about Michael Jordan's lifting workouts on game day!

And the UIL does prohibit coaches from mandating offseason workouts on game days!

no one is saying working out is not good for you. All everone on here is saying that having to do weights that football is making you do on baseball game days, or basketball game days is not good. EX.  Kid has a big district basketball game, football coach make him squat and do any thing you can thing of with legs. You tell me how is it that he will be ready for that game. Same with baseball, football coaches make him do shoulder on game day, but then he is supposed to go out there and throw  the same as normal.

Dang rt they should workout, just not what football wants them to do on game day.

If working out on game days is so good, why do no football teams have their kids work out on friday. And remember when you answer that micheal jordan worked out on game days.

  3. Yes your right it is a very big honor to play against some of the top talent in america and some future pros. The team that beat the 16 year old all stars this year could beat png hands down they were an amazing team and not only that but we have one of the top Sr Babe Ruths in the country expescially in the 16 year old divison  they have been in the finals of the world series two years in a row and i think a couple other years before that they also won it in 2002 so dont dog the babe ruth leauge you wouldnt like to read this as a player and see somebody say that your hardwork and achivements mean nothing because the allstar teams are selected before the season even beagin which they are not so get your facts straight and think about others swingit and trust me those players do read this site

Well lets hope those ALL-STAR teams, with the best talent from their surrounding areas could beat a local 4A high school team. They would beat most teams in most districts.

    u are rt on there scrap ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

  4. I'll take this TEAM right now over all of them above:

    1. Perry Hill  (Central) could defend, shoot, tough as ......

    2. Jamie Weaver ( Nederland ) Univ. of Houston aka...Phi Slamma Jamma...Lefty, shoot lights out

    3. Eric Rhodes ( Westbrook ) S.F.A. led nation in 3 pointers while in Nac.

    4. Conally Brown ( W.O.S. ) Villanova...Played in 85 Ntl. Championship

    5. Anthony Allen ( Lincoln ) Georgetown....bring it in...swat it right back at you....

Subs: James Nance WB / Lamar ; Trans. from post to guard ; Donny Coryell WB / Lamar grittyyyyy

beaumont boys...live and die with em....

  5. D. Frank is a really good player for this area, no doubt he can play at the next level...But if he does not grow, size may hurt him, again, this is a big country, players everywhere, especially 5'10 and above...The Dawkins kid can really play at the Lamar level. Lamar may be a great fit for him in 2 years, sure , who wouldn't want to play at A BIG TIME D1....  but it is about the right fit, suiting up is one thing and contributing is another, and being a go to type player is a huge step at the next level..Of all the good players in our area, the other thread only has a few who went and got it done at the college level, takes an awful lot of work and kids these days don't put in that kind of time anymore!!!

  6. Coaches are human....if they think a kid can help them, they recruit them...if not they don't..it's simple..the fans think certain players are good enough to play at Lamar, but L.U. coaches may differ...these coaches see an awful lot of players in the summer, different levels for different players.

For example...L.U. gets A. Hall, he thought he wanted to go outside the state, did not work out, came home...Some kids make that mistake, good for the kid he recognized it early..Some kids look for the college that fits them, if they are a post player, does that particular school really need a post player..

The kid at LCM went to SMU, little playing time, would get alot of P.T. here at Lamar the next two years, 6'8 has lost weight and can play...he's in Dallas..What about K. Young, if he stays he would hav been a huge success at L.U., but was just that at BYU..The kid at Vidor, goes to a D2, L.U. does not recruit him, his team comes back to Lamar and beats them the next year....the best player to get away from here recently was the kid at Central. Mathews had serious potential and reached it in college...Kid was a warrior.... best inside, besides Perk, since Omar... played like Omar..U never know!!!

  7. Recruiting Willie J.????? to play where? Ashton Hall a tweener needs to improve peremiter game, be...a better at putting the ball on the floor, and has to develop a jumper!!! This kid could score a whole lot better in H.S. than WillieJ...tweener and athletic is okay, but to play at the next level kids have to have basketball skills...if a kid is just athletic, they'll always be talking about his potential, instead of his game....

  8. Mcneese taught the slc how to beat Lamar. SELA confirmed the finding. UTA ran the program.

I have been saying for the longest to add Boutte as an assistant. Coach Boutte is well respected through out

all of Texas. He could land recruits Roc can only dream about. If Boutte was on staff, Keller would have signed with LU.

unlv even you dont believe that

  9. i dont see why they dont recruit the local talent.. every year they complain about the attendance but if they had more local players on the team more people would go to watch them because they would feel more connected to them instead of juco players from other parts of the world

hell they ran the coach off that allowed him to come to lamar and play

  10. That is THEIR rule in Baytown.  Houston ISD is the same as Beaumont. School of choice..You pick a school in 9th grade, and that becomes your home school. Now, once you go there, you must move or be approved to leave, and it CANNOT be for athletic purposes...If your parents can get you there, of course, because the only stipulation to that is that transportation will not be provided if you live so far away...Choice...What is wrong with that?

that is their rule? i thought all schools except private schools had to follow uil rules? dam all this time my son could have been going to central and becoming a doctor instead of hoping to make it big on American idol

  11. "We had Southpark, Forest Brook, French, Hebert, and Charlton-Pollard!!!!  Hebert was still winning state."

Forest Brook ???  I believe it was Forest Park, which is currently Westbrook, that was in existence until the 82-83 school year.

I don't think this thread was started for the argument that is taking place.  The system that is in place is legal whether you or I think it is fair or not.  If I were in BISD, I would probably have my kid where the best baseball program is and can't blame someone else for putting their kid in the best sports program possible for the respective sport.  Especially if they have the talent to go to the next level.

i see your thing says nhs, would u not have your kid in png then for baseball. Thats the difference though. You couldnt have him play for png even if you wanted to with out moving. Thats what makes those schools different from the bisd schools.

  12. Go figure... Ozen, hire a good coach, call it a magnet, open enrollment, cap the numbers each year, call it a 4a, and win the big one...good plan they got one 6 years ago with a first rounder...Central poor guys, what could have been the last few years, call it a medical mag ,attract Ozens third teamers, get 2nd or 3rd each year, don't catch too much flack for not winning district, settle for playoffs, hope it is enough for those in zone to stay and not head to Hebert...Westbrook, wow, get leftovers or kids who might want to stay, play in 5a, no cap, WIN in fooseball, with some coaching or those ex- Ozen players who went back in their own zone, no Magnet, just not smart enough, and last but not least, talk about the good ole days.....I once saw some Ozen and Central fooseball games..not enough athletes to win....please!!!!! I love to watch Ozens/ Central  layup lines and stretching exercises before competition too see who has the better athletes vs other schools in the district........tough one.

  13. Joseph has d 1 offers already he 's playing to get offer from Univ of Houston or a&m . But has offers from Tulane w/ k richards , Oral roberts ,LAmar Samhouston statte ,tulsa, and arlington .  juco ????????????????  ???c'mon now you're close to ozen huh/

G-R-A-D-E-S.....He will not qualify academically for D-1 at graduation...He will have to go to JUCO, and there is nothing wrong with that, if he goes there, handles his business, and moves on...We must stop making kids feel like D-1 is all there is...Go to college (D-1 or D-21, matters not), GRADUATE, and go to work...That should be the emphasis, NOT what schools are LOOKING at him..Because at this point thats all they can do is LOOK, because he is not yet qualified.

Whoa...whoa...I thought you had to have good grades to go to Ozen DickV.  You know since it's a magnet school and all.  They only accept kids with high GPAs and in good academic standing right?

Personally, I wish the kid all the best and hopes he signs with Lamar.  I think it would be a good fit.  Plus he could help his home team get back to the top of the mid majors where they belong.

    ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D :D :D :D :D :D :D ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

  14. Boy that Bmt talent sure hasn't shined in baseball.  And Ozen hasn't been competitve in football for a few yrs now.  And please don't act like the majority of basketball in Bmt talent doesn't enroll at Ozen.  That's just the facts, as DickV likes to say.

And please don't bring up WB baseball, we all know why they have success while Central and Ozen doesn't.

Thank you.... You made my point... If the Magnet was all about atheletics dont you think we would be good in all sports...  But NO... It is an argument when its Convenient!!!!!  There was no Magnet talk when Central and Ozen was getting drove in fottball this year...

i tell u what i will do, i will bring it up this year in football.

Heck while we are at it, i am going to bring it up rt now in baseball. It is not fair to other teams that have boundaries, and  ozen and central dont.  Heck its not fair in any sport. Do you want me to name all of them, or can we just asume that since yall are not (zoned) that are not playing on equal terms.

And no central is pretty good in soccer. No what you are talking about before you type

  15. My bad...my buddy over in Vidor said that we only beat Central 2 times the year they beat Ozen 3 times... The following year they beat Central 3 times..2 times in district and a play in game...And shorty the other side of my neck says most people know what is going on in Beaumont with Athletics...if you have any common sense, it's not hard to see...I'll explain it if you really don't know!!

Team first Vidor has a couple of good years so we do something to compete????? Please!!!! :-\  If you believe that you are foolish...  The whole magnet school thing is about academics not athletics!!!!!  ::)  If that were the case we would dominate in football, basketball, track (oops we do), baseball, soccer, and tennis.... Nobody is loading up on talent we have always beat on Vidor...  Vidor has a few years of good luck but that doesn't explain the decades of defeats Vidor has taken from Beamont schools!!!!!!!  When it was Central and Westbrook just in the '90s we completely embarrassed Vidor EVER YEAR!!!!!!  So EXPLAIN THAT with magnet crap talk!!!!!!!!!

At one time Beaumont had 5 highschools and it was ZONED and we still were competitive in sports...  It is traditional!!!  We had Southpark, Forest Brook, French, Hebert, and Charlton-Pollard!!!!  Hebert was still winning state.  CP was competitive, French was a power...  On and ON...  Teamfirst being good is in the blood of people in Beaumont!!!!  Even in our bad years all will awe at our talent...  Even without coaching the TALENT will shine...

that's the whole point(ZONED) i really could care less about vidor. I just want all teams in the district to be able to compete on a equal playing field.

short u say the magnet thing is for academics not athletics, you dint even believe that yourself, so dint try and sell it to me.

  17. I believe Central has only been a Magnet school for like 2 or 3 years.  What was the excuse before we was Magnet?

no excuse ,3-4 years ago, vidor was outplaying and outcoaching yall. Matter of fact i believe central got 3rd a couple of those years. So yall went magnet. Go figure. cant win fair buck the system

We have never lost 2 times in the same season to vidor in the regular season.  Vidor did beat us, but we beat them too.  That's the same vidor team that beat Ozen 3 times in 1 year.  Come on now.  Your making no sense at all.  Non.

no they beat yall twice in 2004-2005

So yea that does make sense
