1. I say use Kirby as the closer this week. #3 or #4 can beat LCM and then Kirby could start against Vidor Tuesday where we will get the matchup we expected last time with Bellow versus Hester. As to the topic. Nederland 7 PNG 5.
2.

Why is Crosby even in this poll...I don't consider them SETX.
That's ridiculous you cant pick and choose where you would like the lines to be. You have to go by districts, otherwise you could have a team in your top 10 that doesn't even lead their own district. So take all of district 19 4A or take none of them.
Ok. Here is your "SETX" top ten: 1. Baytown Lee 2. Crosby 3. Carthage 4. Jasper 5. Baytown Sterling 6. Kingwood Park 7. Galena Park 8. Lufkin Hudson 9. GCM 10. Nederland (wait, No Nederalnd is out) 10. Lake Charles Barbe ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
3. Well, they have about 120 kids in the entire highschool. So I would guess about 60 boys.  ;D ;D ;D I will say WOS 13-0.
4. I would like to see some comparisons with some of the other parks in the area. There are only a had full that are significantly bigger. Png is basically the same. Vidor is probably the shortest in the area in right. I watch my longhorns play at lcm and BC and BC may be shorter all the way around. Remember these are highschool fields not college. Let's keep the focus on what has been a great first week of baseball and we still have two days left.
5. I think we can all agree on this. If you can't play at all this HS season it stands to reason you won't be at 100% for the summer season, if you are able to throw at all. I believe this would put an even greater premium on your HS coach, because your Sr. year will be the best shot you have and the results might not be the best, you might need a coach that will go to bat for you. I have seen young kids come back from tommy john and it can be done, but it is harder than some people might let on.
6.
Dont count livingston out.. with the talent they have comin in. and the improvement of players over the last year. i believe they will give a run for the playoff spots
What does "coming in" mean? Freshman? or Move ins?
7. Don't think anyone is underestimating LCM. Just recognizing the district is loaded. PNG, Nederland and Vidor could all easily play for the region championship. Lumberton is absolutly on the up tick and Livingston is no push over either. So LCM may be a very quality team and still finish 6th.
8. I think you guys have a real shot. Proabably the 4th seed though. Don't want to offend you, but I just think this year Ned,PNG, and Vidor are really really good. After that it should be real competitive for the 4th spot. No reason you guys can't give Lumberton and LCM a run for their money.
9. 1. Nederland (may be the deepest most talented team this area has seen in years. would be shocked if they loose a district game.) 2. Orangefield (2 big XII signees. And basiclly 9 returning starters once you throw in Huckabee) 3. Jasper (these guys could be playing orangefield for a trip to austin. and have a real shot at another title. speed, speed, speed) 4. PNG (should easily get second in district. they have a ton returning and have another shut down number one in benoit) 5. West Brook (Only 5a in the area. they should top this list every year. but they will make a return to the playoffs this year) 6. Vidor (I hear they have a supporting cast to go around Hester that is as good as the one that kept Nederland home from the playoffs a couple of years ago. they are going to be awefully good) 7. Bridge City (this kind of shows what depth there is in the area. may have the best player in the area and I wouldn't be suprised if they make a deep run, but until I see more from the supporting cast I will hold back.) 8.  WOS (the mustangs very well could, and maybe should, take the third spot in the playoffs from my longhorns. They have almost their entire team returning) 9. HF (we have some work to do. But if the young guys grow and mature around our couple of outstanding returners we might can get back in the mix.) 10. Lumberton (I am taking a dark horse for 4th place in this district. seems like the raiders have been building for the last couple of years and I look for them to take the step forward this year and oust the bears from the fourth spot) Other thoughts: Silsbee (many returners and will compete but still young) LCM (youth and inexperience could spell a long season for the bears) Kelly (young team, but could suprise some of the locals in tournamenst. they have a couple of real quality arms and will compete will  in thier league)
10. It is way to early for this type of talk. But I can see you are fishing for some people to say the mustangs will break the drought and get in. Well, I for one believe this will happen. I think except for Orangefield and BC the district as a whole will be very down. I know we finished second last year, but graduation hit us hard. Silsbee and HJ are still very young. So 3rd place is probably the mustangs to loose.
11. What a great game. Whatever the outcome let us all support these players and coaches. They are laying it all on the line tonight.
12. IMO The coach of the year ought to be the one ht is still playin'. What if he wins it all, is that good enough for ya'?
13. Another guy that is missing the point. No one said these kids can't be effective. But, only one of them has a chance to dominate his teams way to Austin. We just stated a fact. Pitching in the area does not compare to what it has been in the past. One guy just email me a list of six guys on one high school team that were between 87-90 in the late 90's. He also added 12 more names of kids that threw that hard in the same year. You guys can only name one guy in setx that pitches with that velocity right now.
14. Let's either let everyone in the playoffs or 1 team only from each district, that would solve all problems on tiebreakers. Two teams from each district would be the ideal number. Many a second place team has won the state championship. IMO
15. from alabasterjohnson "i would say BC has three pitchers that throw mid 80's in Wallace, Hicks, Kellog." These last two posts act as if they dispute what I am saying. They do not. He has Vidor at 85, PNG at 85, Lumberton at 85, Nederland at 85. Livingston was probably 85 except the pitch up the backstop. Next guy says Wallace, Hicks, and Kellog mid 80's which is EIGHTY FIVE. So now we have one guy that pitches over 85 sometimes, Hicks.
16. I stand by my post. Who in the area throws above 85? (consistantly) I can remember years where some local teams had four and five guys above 85mph. And the area had a guy or two at or above 90mph most years.
17. I don't know who is the fastest, but I do know we have the fewest number of pitchers over 85 that Southeast Texas has had in decades. If there is a 90mph guy, I have not seen it. Even the guys that are talked about being 88-90, I have seen on the radar gun at 84-85. I have seen the following pitchers top out (some at 85, some at 84, some even lower) during this season at one time or another. Maybe I saw them on an off day. 5A Nate Svaboda A couple of others from this ditrict but not SETX 4A Josh Dean* Kirby Bellow Tray Hester Jeron Spikes Cass Ingvardsen Frank Smesney* Dallas Brown 3A Matt Hicks* Jace Statum Jacob Felts 2A Brandon Hillin *these guys looked like they might throw harder to me on a better (warmer) day. I have seen most of the 3A, 4A and 5A guys throw, but I easily could have missed a few that could be on this list of mid 80's and maybe even missed a guy above that. This is just what I have personally seen.
18. Jasper is usually ahead by a nose in that two horse race. High school sports programs have years where they are a little down. It is Jasper's turn right now. Their staff is a very capable one, which is obvious by the State Championship sign in left field. Does your school have a sign like that on their baseball field? They will be back. Just a matter of time.
19. Bridge City / Texas City Coach Chuck Young Career record 707-453 in 45 seasons 1963-2007 (retired in '07 and now listed as the assistant)
20. That's exactly what my first post was referring to. In my opinion (for what it's worth), pitch counts are arbitrary and often misused. For example, Cody Butler threw 145 pitches (18 pitches/inning for 8 innings) against Kingwood Park last Tuesday. That's a TON of pitches. However, the majority of those were in the early innings and he settled down and became very efficient in the later innings. There is no way he would have been taken from that game because of his pitch count. Not with the way he was setting the Panthers down, he had in effect "gotten stronger". In comparison, Frank Smesny threw only 76 pitches (15 pitches per inning for 5 innings)against Kingwood Park last Thursday. Only three less pitches per inning. But, on Wednesday, Smesney threw 130 pitches (18 ppi for 7 innings) and was "struggling" somewhat with his control. So he threw about 60 more pitches than necessary when they had Walters available. That's where the problem starts. Throwing "meaningless" innings. That's what starts to add up on a young pitcher. I understand the magnitude of the game and "no inning is meaningless" when it comes to wins and losses in a district game. That's why you had better of gotten some innings for your other pitchers in tournaments and non-district games. You cannot go into a gun fight with only a stick. I understand your point and don't totally disagree. But you lost me with this particular example. Not sure you can find a way to justify throwing 145 in a highschool game. Unless the pitcher has told you he never plans on playing baseball again. Remind me about Josh Peters. I don't remember the name off hand.
