That may be enough to make the playoffs. I saw Hefner last year good kid. Once he grows into his body he'll be dangerous.

Those are good points. I think PA is going to lose a game. There are 14 district games and they're bound to have an off night. Who they lose to I don't know. If Central can space the floor and keep people chasing the ball they could be the team.
    Congrats to the Jags!

Nederland has won some tournaments this year. There's something to be said about learning to win in difficult circumstances.
I think Central wins it but if they're a jump shooting team like Soulja says and the Jags are a little off Nederland can keep it close. This game by far will be the best game of the lot today.
Ozen and Memorial win easy tonight while only parents are watching Livingston v PNG (aka scalpers night off).

This is probably the most top heavy 5A district in the state for four great to good programs and four also rans.
The playoff teams have to be:
    1 Port Arthur
    2 Central
    3 Ozen
    3A Nederland
Central may be the team that gives Memorial the most trouble but they have a tough opener against Nederland.
Its going to be a fun couple of months. Hopefully the district can get by Fort Bend so we can all go to the Alamodome in '18.
Let's stay healthy and ball out!

You can drip all the sarcasm you want but i guarantee you that if Ennis had had to sleep in a hotel 6 hours away back in 2000 instead of playing in a place where they had already played 3 or 4 games, PLUS only 30 minutes away from them, West Orange-Stark would have one more State Championship ring on their fingers!

The state championship is the only weekend a year is football played at that monstrosity!
All jokes aside DFW doesn't travel well and that hurt Houston.  The Triangle, H-Town and Super CenTex all hit the road and DFW gets credit. That's B.S.
Its a tremendous advantage for those teams to play at home. For that reason alone it should rotate. Houston and San Antonio need to fight harder to host this major event.

They should rotate the state championship. NRG did a good job. DFW didn't travel. They shouldn't be rewarded for that. Also put San Antonio back in the mix. I wouldn't mind it being held at UT or AM. It's an outdoor sport!

When these people and others stop blowing the dog whistle or outright remenising for the good ole days of slavery I might consider letting them have a chance to earn my vote.

Nederland is doing the right thing for their kids this year. They're young. Next year I'm sure they step up a little bit.
But that's not to say the teams they're playing are push overs. They're at or a few notches above the teams they have to beat to make the playoffs.
Playing PA Ozen and Central twice will get them ready for the playoffs.

This year's freshmen finally figured things out in the the last few weeks of the season and has carried over into basketball. They will be stars next year. Most of them will be on varsity.
This group has routinely beat the proposed district opponents from pre wee league up. I'm not calling for district championship in 18 but I wouldn't be surprised if it happened in 19.

Rent goes up every year so that is a burden. Part of the reason rent goes up is property taxes go up. So they pay taxes.  As for subsidized housing that is a minority of the available housing in the area. They don't live there for free.  They are tax payers. They buy items in the community.  They have just as much say in how the community educates the children as home owners.
Please put down your dog whistle. White people also live in public housing.
As far as businesses are concerned if they paid a little more tax and paid a little more of the profits to their employees instead of the CEO the community would be in better shape. Because businesses fight valuation tooth and nail homeowner are now paying more than they have in history as a percentage. Be a man of the people, don't fight for the man.

People who rent pay taxes. The landlord passes the property tax increases as rent increases every year.  Lets end the myth that only homeowners have skin in the game and they are a special class of citizens that deserve extra credit.

It wasn't the most nuanced article but its not far off the mark.  But then again you could take Beaumont and Port Arthur and say similar things, except the racist comments come from those that live just outside  the city limits.
Just because you don't like the messenger doesn't mean he wrong.
You can find evidence that the article bears truth by reading some of the comments on this site. Take the Central Ozen thread regarding the possible merger of the schools. I can tell who's white and who's black just by the comments.
No one says such vile things about PNG Nederland Lumberton, etc. Yet its open season. On Ozen central and memorial.
The only reason why WOS gets a pass because none of the usual suspects can beat them.
That's a sad state of affairs.
If I never left the area I'd probably be more defensive about it. But the years away have opened my eyes a bit.
Still love home, I'll always claim it but I'll never move back.

So how was Orange supposed to be represented in this story? From what I'm reading in this thread, seems like it should sunshine and rainbows talking about it. The writer's not incorrect when he says that most white students are sent to LC-M or Orangefield (why they don't go to WO-S, I'll leave for others). Bridge City had a racist incident just last year. And Vidor, fair or not, has it's past reputation preceding them.
That's before even bringing up the Confederate monument issue on MARTIN LUTHER KING DRIVE.
I'm not sure what you want the writer to do, short of not writing the story. It's not a public relations story. It may not be the whole city but that doesn't make it an inaccurate story.

Memorial has done well. District is supposed to prepare you for the playoffs. The team they lost to last year - Temple- played in the state championship game. Memorial would have been in Dallas if not for that loss.
As for WOS they didn't immediately dominate when they moved to 3A. They're good teams all around.  It took another drop in size and a really special class to get the three now four year run they're on.
If anything Memorial will be in better shape following the split as they'll play up to the competition they'll face in the playoffs. Playing Lumberton, Ozen, Livingston and Central doesn't do the Titans any favors. (Not a knock on those schools they're basically 4A and PAM is darn near 6A. I'm pretty sure memorial JV could beat those teams varsity on any given Friday) Its more like glorified scrimmages and bad habits can be formed playing down a level.
Instead of worrying about one loss appreciate what you have and cheer them on.

That was a rough game. Kilgore was really fast.  My hat off to them.
The one thing I don't understand is why LCM huddled after every play when they were down 28-0 during their first possession of the third quarter. They used nearly 8 minutes of the clock and turned the ball over. Their coach didn't give them a chance to get back in the game.  You're down that much it has to be no huddle with a choice of two plays. It was super frustrating.
They weren't gonna win the game but they could have made it interesting with better coaching.

This would help Ozen tremendously as long as the powers that be don't make them play up in 5A. There's advantages of being a big fish in a small pond.  Ozen Silsbee Lumberton LCM Bridge City is a good district.
