  1. I think so! He's having a nice game...
  2. I think you guys will get better as the season goes on, but I'm impressed with how hard the Bears are playing. They're well coached. I'm hoping the coaches get on our kids a little bit. We're not playing as well as we should be.
  3. Jasper leads 14-0 at halftime. The defense has played pretty well, but we've struggled some on offense. The Bears are hanging in there.
  4. That kid has been in on a few plays already.
  5. You too are getting way too mushy. 🤣
  6. Having a guy like Limbrick that is durable and also a gamebreaker is a huge advantage against most teams, but the Bulldogs will need to diversify the offense some against some of the good teams in our district. Center is pretty good from what I can tell and Rusk seems to be a decent team, but we all know that Carthage is the team to beat. We've played them in the past with good teams and have gotten run off the field. That can't happen anymore. We have to be ready to play.
  7. To me, this has been the case in Jasper for several decades. We'll occasionally have a guy go to a big D1 school, but the majority either go to SLC schools (McNeese or SFA usually) or smaller schools than those. Why is it different for us than some of the other really good smaller high schools in the area? I'm just picking your brain since you've coached and I know less about how these things work.
  8. He came by two-a-days in '90 when I was a junior. Pretty impressive guy. I wonder what he's doing these days.
  9. Here's the write-up that LU has on him: [Hidden Content]
  10. I was too young to remember any of that, but UH should have absolutely recruited him. It's weird to me because at that time, the Bulldogs were pretty dang good. There are a few of those guys that should have gotten a chance to play somewhere halfway decent.
  11. Still not sure how we're so high and why they're taking that phantom "win" over Silsbee so seriously. We're gonna have to play Carthage to within a touchdown (worst case scenario) to validate it and that doesn't seem very likely unless we get a lot better between now and then. Center plays Carthage this week, so I'll be keeping an eye on that one to see how the Roughriders stack up.
  12. Same here. We don't go into many games expecting a long night, but that very well could be one. The kids won't be worried, but we might be covering our eyes. 🤣🤣
  13. I think you're right. That might be the biggest key to the game for the Bears.
  14. They haven't played anyone that throws a lot, so it's hard to evaluate that to be honest.
  15. Fair enough. No need to get excited.
  16. We haven't had to throw a lot, but our passing game isn't bad at all. Adams has been really solid so far, but he's definitely more of the game manager type from what I can tell. They don't feature him a lot in their play calling.
  17. Yeah. Seale was a major college talent. He was a monster at LU, too. I remember him knocking a guy out from the Redskins on kickoff coverage when he was with the Oilers. That dude was something else.
  18. Say it with your chest!!! 😁
  19. I'm gonna say 42-13 Jasper. Our defense always seems to give up big plays. We need huge improvement on that side of the ball in the next two games before we play Carthage.
  20. Yep. I even tried to back channel with a radio station in Omaha to get Nebraska to look at him after the big game he had against Wo-S a couple of years ago. It didn't work. I have no idea where he went. Note: I just saw that Hunt signed to play at Trinity Valley. Maybe he'll get noticed by a bigger school at some point and be able to transfer.
  21. I have no idea if anyone's even looking at him. For some reason, big colleges don't look at our guys very often. We had a guy that just graduated this year that was every bit as good as Limbrick and I never heard a word about him going anywhere.
  22. Time to turn the page after a great game with Vidor. DCTF has Jasper by 30. I do think Jasper is the better team, but that's a lot of points. What are your thoughts?
  23. I think it's good for all teams to schedule teams that are either on par or perceived to be better than they are. Back during our most successful run in the 80's, we used to schedule a couple of decent 5A teams out of Houston, Huntsville (also 5A at the time) when they were really good and then WO-S before district play. We won most of those games and those gave us confidence to do well in our district every year. Football in Southeast Texas at that time was arguably the most competitive in the state and there were some years that the tough pre-district schedule helped us make pretty good playoff runs and others where we would run into powerhouses like WO-S and PNG and get bounced out early. Weak scheduling usually hurts teams more than it helps them.
  24. You guys are a good group of fans. I'll be honest and say that I don't really pay a lot of attention to other teams unless we play them a lot, so Vidor was off the radar for me. Hopefully, you guys will become regulars on our pre-district schedule.
  25. The record paired up with a +392 point differential tells me that the Pirates shoot themselves in the foot a lot in close games. Every team does that, but I would guess that the Pirates have had it happen more than a lot of teams.
