  1. The last time I saw anything on it (from one of the news sites), Barbay was getting around $95k in Jasper, so their pay scale is most likely very close to Lumberton's. I doubt that he's going anywhere, but I can't help but put Jasper in a hypothetical situation like this. I doubt they would start someone else out at a salary like that unless he came in with the same track record. It would probably be someone with less experience. Lumberton is in a tougher spot than Jasper would be just because there would be a lot more work to do to change the culture of the program and like someone mentioned, a lot of losses would pile up in the process. A college that I follow (Nebraska) is going through the same thing with Scott Frost. It's tough and requires a lot of patience from everyone involved. Just find someone that understands winning culture and give him time and money to build it. Most schools go through long periods of losing at some point. I've studied a lot of schools' histories that are posted here and it happens and then someone brings them out of it.
  2. I'll probably listen to the game on KOGT since I've got nothing better to do. Gotta call a spade a spade. It's not my fault we lost. LOL 🙄
  3. I was too young to see the Cards when he put them on the map in the late 70's, but I enjoyed watching his teams at OU after he left Beaumont and it was cool to see him come back to LU to finish out his career. His style of play was very entertaining. That's for sure. He'll definitely be missed.
  4. The scoreboard doesn't lie. You're absolutely right.
  5. I really hope that game is still on the schedule next year. Good luck to you guys next week. China Spring is no joke!
  6. Me too. I still remember the first time we played them in 1986 in Orange and came out on top 21-8. I was 13 and I thought that was the coolest thing ever. At the time, I had no idea that they would have our number for so long after that. Those first few years were INTENSE. Almost every game was a nail biter and you could literally feel the angst between Dan Hooks and Gene Walkoviak. I wonder if they still don't like each other. LOL
  7. You've always been more level-headed than some of your Tiger fans also. Tonight was tough and I hope you guys play Carthage tougher than we did. We'll never be fans of each other's teams, but I'd have a cold one and talk some football with you any day...
  8. Yeah. You're absolutely right. It's called the transitive property and that doesn't mean anything in football. It's all about matchups.
  9. China Spring has an excellent quarterback and tailback that we couldn't stop. They were up 3-0 after the first quarter and it looked like it was gonna be a good, low scoring game and then our wheels came off. They were faster than we are on both sides of the ball, no question. I'm looking forward to seeing how they measure up to WO-S. I love good football and that's gonna be a fantastic ball game.
  10. That's a fair point. We're probably a .700 team since he took over, but very few of those wins were against similar competition. We're probably sub-.500 against teams that have been at least at our level. That's where the frustration comes in.
  11. It wasn't as close as the score would indicate. I was gonna say that we hadn't taken a beatdown like that in a long time, but Bellville did that to us last year. This isn't gonna cut it.
  12. I don't know that anything guarantees the success that we want. It's probably gonna take lightning in a bottle.
  13. Is it possible that what he would prefer to do on offense is different from Darrell's philosophy?
  14. It's gonna be hard to find a guy like that who's interested in that job. It would either need to be a coach on the rise from a smaller school that runs a different system or maybe a successful coach that has been out of the game that wants to get back into it.
  15. China Springs leads 38-12 going into the 4th quarter. They're gonna give the Mustangs all they want next week.
  16. I agree with you. I like Barbay as a person and I think that he cares about the kids that he works with, but I don't think he'll get us where we want to go unless we have a couple of blue-chippers coming up in town somewhere that can advance the program. He's a decent coach, but not the great one that we need.
  17. We're in a tough spot. Who can we get to come to Jasper that will turn things up a few notches?
  18. I said most of us.
  19. You two Silsbee guys are unbelievable. Most of us Jasper guys have been very respectful to you, even when some people would question why we do it. Show some class.
  20. I'm not that surprised. Going in, I thought that it would be a close game. No one saw this coming.
  21. This is bad. We look totally unprepared....again. We've been outcoached and outplayed.
  22. Why haven't they merged? That makes too much sense.
  23. Not sure how much of an upset that would be, but I'll be upset if you're right. 🤣
  24. That's unfortunate, especially for the seniors. They weren't going to win that game, but that's a tough way for those kids to go out.
  25. Nice job, Coach! Sounds like you're gonna have a pretty good season.
