  2. Even the 5 star recruits have to have help starting the process. My point is you have to start somewhere, so start as early as possible. Get the child's name on someone's radar and then other colleges will will want to know why. It becomes a snowball effect. Believe me, each recruiter wants to get a commitment from that "diamond in the rough". Now, more than ever, college recruiters are interested in academics, a good athlete looks even better when that GPA looks good too.

Don't wait for the process to start on its own, give it a jump start and get things going before it gets too late.
  3. My wife and I put a lot of time in on our son. I sent out lots of emails and my wife took him to lots of camps. We started his sophomore year in high school. He received several football offers and several track offers. He chose to accept a full football scholarship. He took as many dual credit courses as he could in high school and will most probably finish his masters degree before his eligibility runs out. He dedicated himself to being the best student/athlete that he could be and it payed off in the long run. It is a combined effort of parents and the student/athlete. A school that has a coach dedicated to helping the students get to the next level helps tremendously if you are lucky enough to be in a school district that does have that.
  4. You are correct Mr. liltex.  He has transferred to Lamar and is the starting center so far this Spring.  We went to his scrimmage last Saturday and will be attending the scrimmage tomorrow as well as the Spring Game on March 7.  He still has 3 years of eligibility left and we are looking forward to watching all of his games.  Being from Port Arthur and a graduate of Lamar this is very exciting for me and my family.  Lots of family anxious to watch him play for Big Red.

It's good to be back on the forum. I will be checking in on the High School forum as I can but hopefully we can get a good Lamar thread going on the College forum.

  5. I have tried to keep an open mind while on this website but after reading some posts on here I think I will hang it up.

To disrespect a team, coach or a community without knowing anything about them is wrong.

I know some of these posts have been in good fun but there are some posts that you know the person was serious about what they said.

So until we meet on another forum or just have a casual "hello" on the street I am signing off for the last time.

I've been lurking on here for a little while now, and I figured I'd make my first post this morning.

I really enjoy reading the game threads. It helps me keep up with the Broncos from Louisiana. As a former player, I'm glad this was not around when I played. Y'all would've ripped me apart. Lol

The difference between good teams and average teams, good teams find a way to win when they aren't there best. They win 2 out of the 3 fases of the game. Whether it be offense and defense, special teams and offense, or like last night defense and special teams. Only the really special teams win all 3 every Friday night.  Remember these are kids, and they are going to have off nights. Finding a way to win is what matters, especially in district play. Survive and move on.

Remember this offense is relatively young. First year QB, and a crop of sophomores at different skill positions. The passing game will come. Right now you won't see a lot of timing routes, ie. comebacks, curls, and out routes. What you are see is a QB making one read and if it is not there he is trying to get out of the pocket to scramble. He is not keeping his eyes downfield for the play to develope. Once his first read is gone his eyes seem to immediately look at the rush coming at him. This will come with experience. Unfortunately he is a senior, so the development will have to be quick as we move to the playoffs.

Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to get my point across. This team will be fine, and they should make a good run. A lot can be said for confidence and swagger. When a team goes out knowing they are going to win, more often than not, they do.

Thanks QB7.  Good post with good points.  I agree, they find a way to win each week and that is what counts.

I think they should be given a time for comments.  I'd like to hear their thoughts.

Take away the turnovers and this would have been a closer game.
