  1. Reed wins the shot put by a bunch.
Reed wins the discus by a bunch more.
This kid is amazing.  If you want to see what hard work and determination, is you really need to see him throw.
Oubre from Dayton took 2nd in the shot put and 3rd in the discus.
  2. I was born in Port Arthur in 1962 and grew up hearing horror stories of Vidor.  Through the years Vidor has changed that image through hard work and determination.  I am proud to say that I now some fine people that live there.  I have a relative that served as Police Chief and City Manager for several years and he has told me what hard work the community of Vidor has done in order to write the new history of Vidor.
The suggestion that I have is to listen to this radio show a little longer, make notes of all of their sponsors and send the link and information to them so they can hear it themselves.  Hit them where it hurts most, in the pocket book.  This should have an immediate impact.  After this I would never listen to that station again.

Good argument about my theory of all high school diplomas being equal.
  4. Well let's see now.  Someone is suggesting that Dayton's athletics and academics are not up to par.  I will concentrate on current Dayton athletes playing football in college.
Wright is at SMU, lots of playing time as a True Freshman and a very good GPA.
Ripkowski is at Oklahoma, lots of playing time as a True Freshman and a very good GPA.
Green is at Tulsa, lots of starts at Nebraska before transfering and, if I'm not mistaking, was on the Deans List.
As far as having completed their college careers we have Pearson from University of Texas and McQueen from Texas A&M, both with significant playing time and a college degree.  I'm sure there are others that I have missed but you cannot argue the fact that all of these young men graduated from, or are attending, a top quality college with a quality football program.
Just goes to prove that a high school diploma is the same, no matter what high school it is from.  They are all equal everywhere.

During the week of HS state titles Juan was attending kicking camp in Dallas w/another a little later. He's a jr.and hopes to get an offer to his fav LSU team 8)

I hope they understand that he cannot kick without his regular deep snapper.  He had the same snapper on every punt, extra point and field goal.

I'm sure the coach will get the new long snapper and c ready for this year.

I was talking about taking his own deep snapper to college with him.  Oubre is will be back with him next year.

  7. Hayden Reed of LCM started the track season by setting the new meet record at the Texas A&M High School Indoor Classic by throwing the shot put 61' 11", breaking his own meet record of 61' 8.5" that he set last year.
Matthew Oubre of Dayton placed 5th overall with a throw of 48' 1.75".
The best of luck to Hayden on his Senior season and to Mathew on his Junior season.  These two will likely meet again at the 4A Region III meet in April.

By the way I sat with the Reed family at this meet.  He is a definitely a fine young man and will go very far with his Academic and Athletic skills.  I was very impressed with him and his family.

How many D-1 athletes come from Crosby.  Everyone talks about how coaching is the problem, How many D-1 players have they produced that actually performed at a high level????

    Chance Casey- Baylor (defensive starter)
Dominic Merka- TCU (moved to TE has not played)

How many schools in 19-4A have more that 1 or 2? I would say none.

Dayton has Ripkowski at Oklahoma and Wright at SMU.  Both of them from the Class of 2011 and both of them playing as True Freshmen.
