  1. Huffman Hargrave @ Stafford Saturday at 6pm.
  2. HF QB can throw the ball under pressure. He has seen quite a bit of pressure but he is making things happen. Really cool to see.
  3. Just read on Tepper twitter that 81% of Texas high school students are 5A/6A. Didn't realize it was that large of a percentage. Might be way the line was drawn where it was.
  4. I'm guessing here and not saying i agree. Just trying to guess on why the decision was made. Pure math says that smaller communities would have reduced chances of transmission. Why is the line between 4a/5a? Gotta put it somewhere I guess. I had this conversation with a medical health professional that has worked with local ISD's. My premise was - What happens when a coach hears of a kid that tested positive and squashes it or hides it somehow? The answer was "That is not just a bad idea. That is a career ending decision that carries with it a very high probability of legal consequences both criminal and civil. The coach is putting the future of his career, his family, and possibly his freedom in jeopardy by depending on the ability of a 14-17 year old kid to keep their mouth shut." Once I played it out in my mind, Its going to be hard to imagine a coach doing that.
  5. It will be interesting to see how different the HH team is this year. More athletic at QB, younger RB, smaller O-line. Lost a lot of experience on D-Line. Praying for a season.
  6. the AAP strongly advocates that all policy considerations for the coming school year should start with a goal of having students physically present in school. Mental health effects of school closures during COVID-19 The poor effect of school closure during coronavirus epidemics has already been evidenced in some studies carried out during the SARS epidemic. I've got more sources. A lot of sources. The difficult part is finding strong leaders that can stand up to people that push policies formed around emotional factors and start driving policies based on evidence and data. My guess is a late start but I am pushing in the ways that I can for as normal opening as possible.
  7. I have never emailed the UIL. I have emailed state representatives, attorney general, senators. I have always gotten a response. It hasn't always been what I wanted to hear but I never felt like they weren't listening when I sent a reasonable question or concern. Ted Poe was especially responsive to a phone call to his office. I have always tried to bring data and raise concerns with possible solutions. That is quite different than complaining. Worth a shot. If I hear something, I will share it here.
  8. This podcast [Hidden Content] Speaks to how we respond to risk. Its pretty short. 24 minutes. Two case studies: Fukushima - An older couple was evacuated from the Fukashima reactor incident. They weren't super close but within an evacuation zone. The risks of radiation exposure were elevated within their zone but not incredibly high. They used the "better safe than sorry" card. They relocated to Hong Kong, burned through their savings, too old to be competitive in the job market, too poor to just retire. They were allowed to go back home for one day and night. Once home, the wife refused to leave and the husband found her dead of a suicide the next morning. This kind of story became common for people from that area. The data suggests that the deaths from suicide, poverty, and stress were significantly higher than the deaths that could be attributed to any radiation exposure within the zone. Actions taken to protect people were actually causing greater harm. Hatfield Rail Crash - A broken rail caused a high speed train to crash, killing 4 people and injuring more than 70. The response was to cut the speeds while inspecting all the rail. This caused the train volume to fall by half. Most of these people that left the rail owned cars. People are 12 times more likely to die in an auto accident than a rail accident. Those people are now at a greater risk than before but those deaths will never be attributed to the train crash. There will be consequences to acting as well as NOT acting. When factoring in the data about school closures and mortality rates, school closures are more harmful than helpful. So, how do we respond? - With data and evidence. We should judge policies based upon the evidence, not the intent. I am emailing the contacts at the UIL and the State the following links and a request to incorporate evidence into the decision to open our schools as soon as possible. [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content] School Closure During the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Pandemic Impact of school closures for COVID-19 on the US health-care workforce and net mortality: a modelling study Contact List - UIL Department of Policy and Administration Executive Director: Dr. Charles BreithauptDepartment email: [email protected] fax: 512-471-5908 Deputy Director: Dr. Jamey HarrisonEmail: [email protected] Chief of Staff: Kim CarmichaelEmail: [email protected] Texas State Officials Attorney General Contact Form Texas Governor Contact Form Email to Briscoe Cain, State rep for Crosby, Huffman, Pasadena, Channelview, LaPorte... Few others.  Your State Rep wants to hear from you!!! This is long enough.
  9. Huffman reported 276 yesterday but I think that included Middle school and all sports.
  10. I think there is a lot to be said for programs that are making these deep runs in the playoffs. The staff and the kids get way more football time. 5 extra games a year for Aledo plus all the practice time. But that is a massive percentage above regular programs. And Aledo just has to be attractive to 2-3 areas around them and then they could be pulling talent from a comparable large 6A talent pool.
  11. Im not an expert on the alignment stuff. But...it looks like Bridge city will drop and Vidor will move in and that might be the only change to that district?
  12. Well, I am in Canada at the moment.
  13. Huffman defense has had quite a few interceptions this year. They play the ball very well when it is in range. But they don't seem to have the top end speed to hang with a burner at WR and a QB that could drop in a dime.
  14. As a Huffman fan, I am pulling for that L-Train big time!!! Anything can happen. Crosby beat Manvel, Stanford beat USC, and Trump beat Hillary....Lumberton can beat Carthage!!!
  15. Yeah, it was a combination of weather and the opponent. It was pretty easy to stay home when it felt like Furr was a gimme. Me and the wife were there but if we wouldn't have found a babysitter, she probably would have missed. I would have went but her and the princess would have missed. But we will all be in Bryan, even bringing some people and meeting some In-laws at the game.
  16. As cliched as it sounds, this is a different team than the team that started the year. I went to NC, Dayton, and the Willowridge game. The teams were different in all three. I have no idea what to expect. If they can play as well as they did against Willowridge and catch a couple breaks....basically if the Football Gods shine on Crosby instead of Huntsville...then they move on to Rd3.
  17. Love seeing a Crosby team that doesn’t take their foot off the gas and plays some defense.
  18. Willowridge gives away every first down. They run up to the line and try to run it up the gut uptempo and get stuffed. Makes now sense. maybe later in the game they will trick out of it. Dunno.
  19. This is the best answer. It's their money. I don't understand why anybody would care how they spend it. My opinion has changed on this very little since BH hired Westerberg. He didn't get hired because he is a great guy and a wonderful mentor to young athletes. He got hired to win. So far he hasn't earned his check yet. But.... This is the year I think they are starting to get some return on that investment. My question is, and I don't have an answer, how much rope will he get at $154K if he stacks up a couple tough seasons after this one? He had some less than impressive seasons in the beginning but its "part of the process"...."programs take time to turn around"...all those comments. Now, ranked #10 in the state in their division, this is where they should be....at the moment. BH should be improving beyond the 1st and 2nd round in the next few years to justify that pay. But, like I said at first, it's their money. Fun to talk about is all.
  20. Anybody ever done a comparison of before and after for Cal prep? I might whip out a spreadsheet and compare the prediction v. finals this weekend and see how it does. Site does have Huffman winning every possible matchup......Until Carthage...and then obviously the website is broken and can't be trusted from then on.
